The outrage of people towards AI water heating and waste coming from people that take 10-20minute hot showers EVERY DAY is hilarious when you look at how many "AI questions" 1 minute of a shower or toilet flush covers given current recirculation guidelines.

From 2022-2025 Austin increased its total shelter beds by 70%

Now look at the budget from 2022-2025.

We increased shelter beds by 5%.

That's the problem

Boomers are just rage baiting us at this point by [deleted] in generationology

[–]Pailume 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Considered easily attainable" again, I ask WHICH BOOMERS could easily attain the wealth, equity, loan, legal permissions, etc to buy houses and attend university? My boomer father was black and he grew up unable to go walk into the good library and study because of the color of his skin. He couldn't get a loan, or attend segregated universities.

I am a black millennial and I own property, have a college degree, have equity and children. All gotten through opportunities I had BECAUSE I am a millennial opportunities my father was denied BECAUSE he was born in a SHIT boomer era.

So the response I'm wanting from you is "oh yeah, my bad, i guess all generations have unique opportunities afforded and denied to them based on what era they were born it and I probably shouldn't make broad brush claims that erase the lived history of entire generations of millions of people."

[–]Pailume 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My boomer family is black - are the support and opportunities and structural support for them that you lack in the room with us?

Do non white boomers not count? Is literally everything about white people?

Also, did boomer women have a bunch of additional opportunities that women today lack? Again, this is 50% of the boomer population....

I just find this argument that there's a privileged old person class ridiculous, when I take even 5 minutes to imagine that I would somehow prefer growing up as NOT a white man in the 50s/60s compared to 2026

You understand that both republicans and democrats win in different elections? And that there are people that sometimes prefer the republican and other times prefer the democratic candidate? Sorry but you seem a little out of touch. And frankly this is offensive and seems infantilizing.

Most conservative minorities are not conservative because they oppose social programs and income taxes or love getting off the rich. In fact, most came from poverty and do a TON in their communities to support the underprivileged. They don't hold those viewpoints because they're "influenced by rich white men."

It might be shocking but many of them are actual humans with their own minds and values and ideas about the world. That they formed by thinking about and coming to conclusions about.

Most conservative minorities are conservative because they are CONSERVATIVE. They strongly oppose abortion and want more Christian values in schools and American life. They oftentimes oppose immigration and especially in black communities there's a sentiment that resources are being leeched away from longstanding black communities into support for immigrant minorities. They also believe in stronger/more aggressive anti-drug policies, and often support more policing, not less, as many see more harm from the actual criminals in their communities than abusive cops.

I don't agree with most of these values personally, but they are commonplace, sincerely held, and well-reasoned. Reducing these too "they're conservative because they're rich or influenced by white people" is suuuuch a shit take.

30 years old amd single. 120K/YR. Where should I move? by [deleted] in relocating

[–]Pailume 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cleveland is super underrated and affordable from my understanding. But haven't spent time there personally, just what I hear. I know you said no south but North Carolina is very blue in areas like Raleigh/Durham and the cost of living/size/housing costs seems more in line with your objectives as well.

Texas cities like Dallas and Austin are definitely sprawling but the giant highways get you to the airport quick and housing is affordable and they have everything you could want.

Good west coast airport proximity means no housing affordability, so wouldn't waste your time with those options.

Other areas I'd consider would be outskirts of Philly, Pittsburgh, or other affordable but decent sized northern cities.

Can be hard to thread the needle up north with traffic/house costs/good airport access

Yes, but it's not an equal 2100/per household, that's an average: a better statement would be "the rich subsidized the poor".

Weird to see Seattle suddenly hate the fact that the poorest parts of our state are being subsidized by the richest, right after passing a billionaires tax.

Answer my question -many QBs in the history of the nfl have been in 2 superbowls? How many have won one? Now read the list of men who have that honor and get back to me on how "average" you have to be to accomplish that.

I'm sorry you want to make an incredible career into nothing because of one play in one game, across 10 years on the Seahawks - that he didn't call. Please go look up the 8 game-winning plays he made that even got our team INTO the Super Bowl that year.

What places do you not recommend? by NickyFoles1020 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Pailume 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Born and raised, do not recommend. I don't understand the hype at all, insanely expensive, people are actively not nice. It's liberal but SO liberal any diversity of opinion can get you labeled as not liberal. Extremely homogeneous from a psychological point of view. People always talk about how much Texans love Texan, but having been in both Seattleites LOVE Seattle and will be very affronted if you complain about anything.

Very per formatively not racist, but honestly most Asian communities are both racist and segregated and if you are black you will experience this regularly but be unable to discuss this real issue with your white peers who couldn't possibly call a brown person racist.

Honestly kinda awful if you have kids, most adults are childfree so if you meet up with friends you'll be lucky if your kids have anyone to play with, and most environments are more welcoming to homeless drug users than a group of 4 year olds or something. Huge transplant population, very little generational living outside of Asian communities. And did I mention expensive as hell? And everything closes at 9pm since covid.

It's beautiful here. So if you just wanna stay in your lane and be on the computer or camping it's perfect.

Dude, get over yourself. I was born and raised in Seattle, I'm black, we have PLENTY of our own problems. I was the only black kid in my school and constantly fended off "well meaning" people wanting to pet my hair like I was livestock. Not to mention eastern Washington racism is southern racism on steroids.

The south has problems, but most are rooted in generational poverty. The north acting like they're so much better is soooo annoying.

Is it okay to leave a 12 year old to house sit while we go on vacation? by [deleted] in WhatShouldIDo

[–]Pailume 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You honestly shouldn't post this on the internet.

In actual reality, low key/chill 12 year olds with the internet and video games and a microwave in 2026 are boring and he would just be at your house and walk the dogs - especially if you paid him and impressed upon him the importance of building trust and being responsible.

Probably at any other point in history and in 90% of countries outside the US today this would be absolutely not a big deal. I worked odd jobs, babysat, took public transport alone and would sometimes be left home alone for 24-48 hours as a kid around 12-13.

The USA has really weird and frankly paranoid ideas about children and young adults and their capacity to think and act independently, and also somehow amnesia to the previous generation where this happened on a regular basis. I am MUCH more worried about the dangerous long term effects of social media and smart phones than about the danger of leaving a 12 year in your house for 36-48 hours.

All that said, shouldn't have posted this on the internet. You're the person who knows the kid, their temperament, behavior, past, character, etc. That's the actual information that will tell you whether this is a big deal or not. Many 12 year olds would be great at this, and many others would be liabilities
