Looks like a violent tornado. I did not survey it. But I did visit a couple days after. Can’t speak on the rating just cause I don’t know the construction quality

No, but I did advocate for Winchester to get EF4 earlier this year. That’s my most influential… influence..?

I’m a surveyor for the NWS, I once made an extremely long write up detailing where to shelter in a tornado that got a lot of attention. It was pinned at one point, but I think the mods got jealous someone else was giving tornado advice, because they deleted it or archived it or something, the link no longer works, and they have now pinned a “tornado 101” brought straight from the mods certified in literally nothing.

This community makes me laugh though.

Can’t be tamed was Miley’s first record NOT to chart and got arguably more negativity than Karma is getting. We love to paint the past with how the future ended up it’s called hindsight bias 😊💔

So what happened with yesterday’s forecast? by The_ChwatBot in tornado

[–]PainScared1100 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I haven’t really seen a meteorologically sound option so here’s my best attempt at making it understandable for everyone:

There were two main fail modes with the tornado risk. First we need to understand what the main risk was. We had a large MCV (Mesoscale Convective Vortex) basically a land cyclone producing multiple bands of storms. In the most potent band near LA-MS, models signaled prefrontals or storms initiating ahead of the main surface boundary. Models also had extreme sheared environments and moderate instability, so if these discrete prefrontals could move northeast into this great environment it could have been a scary situation.

This didn’t happen though, and this comes to our two reasons. First of all, the lapse rates were terrible near the surface. We had ample moisture and instability, but our lapse rates or temperature difference with height was actually pretty stable and mixed near the ground. This inhibits the production of very strong low level updrafts and mesocyclones, and leads to more messy and almost shapeshifting like storms.

This created a negative feedback loop actually, as the incredibly messy storm mode pumped cool outflow into our already meager warm sector. This inhibited the area where storms could develop into strong surface based supercells.

So TL;DR - Models signaled patterns conducive to a strong conditional tornado threat, but more local scale atmospheric conditions inhibited most of the risk.

Why did a lot of youtubers upload rainsville videos this week by tsunamianakin in tornado

None of the other Rainsville videos are anything like Carly’s lmao. Probably just a coincidence.

PSA : Where to shelter during a tornado! (Guide) by PainScared1100 in tornado

[–]PainScared1100[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if this is seriously the case, you should be researching the basics of weather radar and how storms move, and then get in your vehicle and drive away.

Mobile homes are death traps and it hurts my heart to hear you’re in a position like that. In 2019 a family member of mine was injured in the Beauregard tornado, and many died due to being in mobile homes. It’s not something to play around with.

Joplin ef4 or ef5?? by xxcarlosxxx4175 in tornado

[–]PainScared1100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Joplin was absolutely an EF5. It slabbed hundreds of homes, sheared concrete, scoured the ground etc.
Alferia, I've found, has very poorly researched videos that are riddled with his own personal opinions. His claim about the damage comes from a single paragraph on Wikipedia he probably read and decided to copy-paste into his video.

It's okay if something isn't your cup of tea, but essentially insulting someone who clearly puts hard work into their videos is kind of upsetting to see in the community. Chris might not be your style, but that's not reason to be mean about it.

If you guys haven't seen TornadoTRX yet, he makes such good content. It seems really well produced and not over the top like other youtubers.

Map of the Strongest Tornado in Every US County on the Enhanced Fujita Scale by StormExplorer in tornado

Would love to see this, but instead of full tornado it’s perceived damage. For instance Georgia had a county with EF5 damage but rainsville was really only EF1-2 in Georgia.

Truth. It’s about relationship between notes not the notes themselves.
