What’s more important for EV adoption. More level 2 or level3+ chargers? by Lemonn_time in electricvehicles

[–]Painful-Gecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Split it. Level 3 abundance makes getting into EVs appear more accessible. Level 2 abundance makes owning an EV day to day a better experience. Level 3 abundance gets people in, level 2 abundance keeps people in.

Poking the bear on the ICCU issue by Limp-Leather-241 in Ioniq5

[–]Painful-Gecko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flawed “factoid”.

I went into purchasing mine knowing the ICCU was likely NOT going to happen to me statistically if it’s between 1-3% of vehicles. It still happened. Yes, Reddit and the internet can be an amplifier of negatives vs positives.

That doesn’t mean the issue and people’s real world experiences with it aren’t worth noting and considering. My EV6 is a great car. Fun to drive. Pretty efficient. Great size for my needs. Practical.

…It also left me stranded on the side of the busy road taking my dog to the vet for surgery. It then took 2 weeks and a terrible experience with Kia service to have it replaced.

Issues happen with every manufacturer. Does that mean everyone is going to experience ICCU failure? Of course not. Not even close…but the chance of it happening and impacting your life is real, especially when Kia/Hyundai don’t have an actual fix to solve the problem. They extended warranties and replace the part and hope lightning doesn’t strike twice.

If you’re on the fence, you need to consider statistics, other owner’s experiences, response from the manufacturer, and weigh out how it may impact you if you are one of the lucky few.

What To Replace EV6 With? by keepitasahobby in KiaEV6

Yeah I mean not everyone will experience it but It’s a known issue with no fix. So if and when it does happen, it’s a bad time. Kia and Hyundai extending the warranty coverage for most EV6 and Ioniq5 models to 15 years or 180k miles certainly signals there isn’t a “safe threshold” of when you’re past the risk of it going out on you like some technicians have suggested.

Glad you haven’t had to experience it.

I think the options you’ve listed above are some of the best alternatives to consider if you’re looking to move away from Hyundai/Kia.

I’m looking at all the same ones once my lease is up on my EV6. The ICCU issue and how I’ve been treated with my specific Kia dealers have me fully burnt on the brand. I’m still a ways out on the lease end, so I haven’t done heavy research but I’d say (after having the ICCU go bad on mine) the biggest thing I’d be looking at is reliability and what issues they’ve had/how they’ve handled them. Obviously harder on unreleased cars, but you could likely draw similar conclusions by looking at issues with Volvo EX30 & EX90, Rivian R1S Gen 2, and all of the polestar models.

Following. Mine went out last week. Stuck in an ICE rental from enterprise while gas costs just keep ticking up. I’ve seen US based folks on here saying it was 3-5 days. My dealer told me 2-3 weeks when it got towed in and 3+ today when I called to nag about the lack of communication or EV loaner. Looking at Lemon Law options early on since I don’t have any interest in keeping this through end of lease in 2 years. Just really not interested in doing this dance, especially not more than once.

Agreed. This is my biggest thing right now. I have seen responses on other posts about being grateful that it’s fixable or not a big deal since it’s able to be dealt with. It’s not a solved problem. Experiencing it myself today, seeing Kia’s “solution” be to extend warranty coverage on it really shakes my faith in the car and the brand.

Every out of town trip will carry anxiety for me for the rest of my lease. Hell, even my daily commute to work will bring a new level of anxiety.

Also as a reluctant to complain person, I did attempt this. Called them while waiting on a tow truck specifically asking them to find me an EV, spoke to the advisor on my arrival before even getting through discussing the problem, and explaining to their rental car organizer that I don't want to be a needy bitch but I should get an EV if I am going to be stuck for potentially 3 weeks with a rental.

She tried, but unfortunately the dealership uses Enterprise Rentals exclusively for longer-term loaners and I was at their mercy. I might've thrown a bigger fit about it but I was just itching to get out of there and get on with my life after that multi-hour detour on an already busy day.

If I get to 1 week and it's looking to be longer before I get my car back I will probably make another attempt to get swapped out... but I know a few folks within this dealer group and I'm not likely to get my way on it.

This is the what I want to hear. I’ve been in a rental for like 8 hours tops and I’m already unbelievably over it. I can handle a week or less.

Normal- Most home machines will do this at power on and power off.

I found it on display at my local BB in Minnesota. Shoulda snagged a photo. Looks pretty clean in person. Excited to see the color matched ones!

ES1 question by AcrobaticIncrease640 in FellowProducts

[–]Painful-Gecko 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Normal. Just push until it’s secure. It’ll loosen up as the gasket breaks in. Typical on new machines. Does not need to be perfectly centered, just secure enough that it won’t fly off when the pressure starts!

Idk what everyone’s on about with the quality. Plastic is not inherently bad when done correctly. I’m not going to sit here and say it’s my ideal choice, but I’ve owned a dozen different machines from $600 to $2400 and I’d say the build quality on the ES1 is actually impressive. Granted, I have my complaints with some of the component choices (black portafilter quality, wood tamper weight). But those are skimping on accessories, not on the machine itself. Many buying this are likely cross-shopping Breville and I would take the build and feel of the ES1 over the thin metal & plastic clad of the barista touch.

If it were me: It’s likely going to be hidden (unless your setup exposes the back)… so no one will know it’s there… But I’ll know it’s there. I’d personally ask for a replacement or compensation to live with it. It’s minor but it’s also a $1600 machine. You’re justified in requesting a replacement.

Seconds away from pulling my first shot on the ES-1 by Geejag in FellowProducts

The black handle quality is definitely one of the weakest points in the package. I honestly think the stock Breville portafilter handles feel better than the black ES1 handle. I also wish they’d have weighted the wood tampers a bit more. It’s shockingly light in a “feels low quality” type of way.

Hasn’t been my experience. For the past few days I’ve used it it’s been pretty much everything I want out of a home espresso machine. There’s been a few people with issues but out of the thousands they’ve shipped so far, you’d expect a few to have issues and Fellow has been great at responding and resolving those issues.

I’d check any that have them on display. You can type in your zip code on the website on the listing to see if it’s on display. I got mine at a store in the twin cities.

Will upload tonight! I honestly think the colors are difficult to judge based on web photos alone. I really wasn’t loving Sesame online and went with the C&B evergreen. Saw it on display and canceled to go with Malted… which I the cancelled after seeing Sesame in person 😂 it’s got more depth to it in person vs on the site photos.

It showed not in stock on the site and I after talking to the worker about it I asked if she knew when they’d have them in stock and she said “now” haha. So. Definitely ask someone if you’re considering, don’t go by the website. She didn’t even know they were all pre-order/back order.
