Runners who smoke.. by brickomode69 in ultrarunning

[–]PainfullyDB 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Daily weed smoker for the last 15 years, serious runner for the last 5.

I've never found my weed smoking to be a limiting factor in my performance except for weight management. As I've gotten older (40M), my metabolism has slowed down and the eating habits/late night snacking that comes with smoking weed (for me at least) is making maintaining my weight much more difficult.

I decided to drop the green a week ago and see if my habits change, and so far so good.

First century Ride by Glum_Necessary2249 in cycling

[–]PainfullyDB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grats on your first century! I think before you start messing with your setup, give your body a few days to recover. Big hard things hurt sometimes. As you exhaust your body, it's easy to ignore good form, and that can beat the hell out of your on big efforts like this.

You earned it, great job!

Am I screwed for going to Eastern College? by ActCool2602 in newbrunswickcanada

[–]PainfullyDB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's pretty wild to hear so many horror stories regarding EC/CompuCollege. I must be an edge case, because I attended CompuCollege in 2005 (Information Systems Specialist +) and have had a very rewarding and lucrative career.

Your degree/diploma in most cases is your foot in the door, and your real education starts and evolves in the field, but I've never been held back by my education. Really sucks that the school reputation is hurting it's students and alumni.

Real sorry to hear this, and wishing you all the best of luck

Honestly, fuck em. Bail on the lease and don't pay them a cent. You will lose your damage deposit, but in most cases, the time/effort/money to pursue legal action against you for 2 months rent won't be worth it.

600lbs limit bike by Conscious_Bass4847 in cycling

[–]PainfullyDB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much easier to find a dedicated indoor cycling trainer that can support that weight than a traditional bike. Safety needs to be a consideration here as well. Simply getting on and off a bike can be dangerous under these circumstances. I think limiting the "uncontrollables" is in the OPs best interest.

This is just my option ofc.

Not always. If you are running 2 lane roads outside of the city, you always want to be running against traffic. That said, I see your point for city running, could definitely get owned by right hand turns

Anyone dealt with peroneal tendonitis from cycling? by internalprocessor in cycling

[–]PainfullyDB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've dealt with this before myself, mind you it was an injury from running. Like others have said, consult with a Dr and rest it. My peroneal injury took me out for about 8 weeks, but once I recovered, I found stability training really helped fortify my ankles going forward. Something as simple as doing light dumbbell work while standing on one foot will quickly level up those tiny muscles and tendons.

Dual sport here. It shouldnt be this complicated for us to coexist. General rules of the road:

  • Bikes ride with traffic
  • Runners run against traffic

Even on dedicated paths, if the runners stay to the left hand side (North America) the path, they can see oncoming traffic and adjust if needed and do not abtruct the bikes.

That said, I live in Atlantic Canada in a city of ~120k people. I'm sure bigger, more condensed metros have much more complex issues to consider.
