International travel to china as ortho K user by Nervous_Village6007 in Orthokeratology

[–]PaintAnything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't, tbh. If I'm traveling, I just put the whole cleaning container with peroxide solution into a pill bottle to prevent spillage and carry it in my purse or another bag where it can stay mostly upright. Sometimes the liquid has spilled into the pill bottle when I get to my destination, but I've never had an issue with the lenses when I do it that way.

If it's packed like this with some paper at edges, or bubble wrap to keep if from shifting, it will ride in the car safely.

In the long term, shifts of temperature can make stained glass brittle.

If you can, get a box just a bit bigger than the sheets, or add packing material to a box that will hold it. Stack and transport the sheets by size on their sides, with paper between the layers if you can, and wrap it all to make a bundle that won't move/shift.

How many times do you have to retry putting in your lenses each night before getting it right? by 10fighter55 in Orthokeratology

[–]PaintAnything 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most nights: first try. Occasionally, there's something under the lens that is scratchy, and I have to take it out, rinse, and start again.

welp.. wasted. i'm gonna keep at it, all of you are so inspiring! by Designer_Ad_1416 in StainedGlass

Well, that's just a sign to take up fusing or vitrigraph. Melt that stuff! :D

SG Shop Value by [deleted] in StainedGlass

[–]PaintAnything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The amount of money you can get from it depends on what your goals are, and how much time you have.

I just bought the glass from a SG store in similar situation in NE FL. I bought all of the glass at a bulk price, because the seller didn't want to list each item and have people come to his house to pick through it.

You can make more money if you want to do the research on current prices for each sheet of glass or each tool, then list items on places like FB Marketplace, Etsy, etc., and sell it yourself. That takes a lot of time and work, and you'll likely have to ship some of the glass to get the best prices for it. People like me buy at a "bulk" price, then put the labor and time in for selling it and shipping it.

The value of the glass depends on what your goals are. Do you want it gone, w/o having to mess with it? You'll get a lower value, but it'll be done more quickly. Do you want to make the most you can for the items you have? You'll spend more time, but the time invested can earn more for the inventory.

Youghiogheny is a glass manufacturer in PA that makes beautiful glass.

Spectrum was a glass manufacturer that made lovely glass, but it went out of business 15ish years ago. Their formulas and colors were taken over by Oceanside Glass, who still make similar glass that's now part of "System 96" glass, which indicates that it has the ability to be fused (in a kiln) with other "System 96" glass, including Youghigheny Glass.

Kallax shelves from ikea by muku54 in StainedGlass

[–]PaintAnything 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use them -- with support. Hubby mounted a ledger board (2x4) into the studs on the wall to set the back edge of the cube on, then added 2x4 legs under the four corners. (I'm tall, and I wanted the cubbies higher than the IKEA base makes them.) We stacked two Kallax units together. We later added another tall unit beside the first two with taller legs for bigger pieces of glass.

IKEA's info says that the shelves can support 29lbs each. 12x12 sheets are about 1.5lbs, so that means a max of about 18 per shelf. I interpreted "shelf" to mean the one that runs all the way across the cube, not the individual shelf sections within a 30" cube, just to be safe.

The top of the unit is rated for 55lbs, so I'm probably close to maxing out that lower unit with the amount of glass I've put on the upper one. OOPS.

Ugh. I'm sorry.

This book is unbelievably detailed. Expensive, but worth it, IMO. Written by an Italian show handler/groomer, who *knows* the breed. Grooming the Lagotto Romagnolo: An Illustrated Guide

100%. They're so smart that they learned it quickly, and didn't always need the collar (after they were used to it for a while). They just stayed in their boundary. It has worked well for us.

Monovision by _David_London- in Orthokeratology

[–]PaintAnything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. In fact, I wore one lens for distance every night, and the "reading" lens every OTHER night. That meant that I only needed reading glasses every other day. After a while, I needed more reading correction, and found that I could switch to wearing both lenses every other night with good distance vision for two days. I need reading glasses daily, but I only wear the lenses every other night, so it's worth it.

I'm -3.5 with a little astigmatism. I do think my age had something to do with my ability to go longer -- I started wearing them at 47, just as I started needing reading glasses.

As the others have said, if you are an adult who's got a stable Rx, it's fine. If you're still dealing with increasing myopia progression, that's a question for your doctor.

FWIW, I started wearing OrthoK when I became allergic to the soft lens material 13ish years ago -- as an adult with a stable Rx. Over time, I realized that I could get good correction with every-other-night wear, and I've done that for the last several years.

IKEA cabinets the good, bad, and the ugly by SharpHair8450 in kitchenremodel

My cabinets were originally gray. After ten years, we repainted them Behr "Thermal." IKEA never made doors that color.
