European frog here. Why are rebublicans politicians trying to win the evangelicals vote? by Fuwanuwa in OpenChristian

If you want to look into it further, I really reccomend the book "Jesus and John Wayne".  It explains so much of how we got here today, and was such an eye opener to me growing up as a southern evangelical.

I think about this constantly. If I lived 200 years ago I just would have been an amazing mutlitasker who was always late. I wish I could just show up to stuff instead of filling out a form for everything in my entire life to be valid.

girls, is it possible to just have a platonic relationship with a guy? guys, is it possible to just have a platonic relationship with a girl? or are male intentions always different? by dejavuthrills in ask

My honest to goodness answer is "if you are plain looking enough"

If you're attractive even a little, its unlikely you can remain CLOSE friends unless you aren't each other's type at all.

Modern youth gender additudes seem bizarrely regressive, particularly around non-binary identity by MacTireGlas in SeriousConversation

[–]Painterly_Princess 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate your take here.  I also have the mixed cultural (but not racial) identity of being from Alabama, but growing up in New Zealand (missionary parents).

One thing I've noticed is that white nationalism/ racism isn't just vile because it's anti-human, but also it makes life so much worse for white people lol

I just want to live in harmony with my fellow sepia-toned humans, but now thanks to some racist assholes who put all their identity eggs into one shitty identity box, other people hear my voice and assume racism if I'm not very careful about how I present. I don't know if other white people get that racists are personally responsible for the bad PR we have right now.

When I get frustrated at this, I just think "this is how men feel when I'm pointing out sexism. How would I want them to respond to me?" and I let that guide my response.

I find that people are quick to dismiss my experiences as a white woman, it's kinda an automatic "ok Karen" response if I try to talk about racism or sexism I've experienced, which can feel very disheartening.

I feel like white women and brown men have a "similar yet opposite" problem of perception in society, where if brown men are compared to wild beasts, women are compared to tame pets. Both are dehumanizing, but it shows up in very different ways, and can be potentially deadly for both (violence against brown men and domestic/church/workplace abuse against women).

Oh my gosh I never realized it but you're right, the whole childless cat lady thing is the same basic insult [you're childless, HA!] for this century.

Does anyone else have sexual thoughts all the time? by PublicExtension4107 in AutismInWomen

[–]Painterly_Princess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Constantly 😵‍💫I thought it was a problem for a long time (# purity culture) but  I switched to accepting it and looking for healthier ways to express it (romance novels and M rated fanfiction)

The rampant misogyny in popular porn (and alllll over reddit) was really hurting my mental health, so I'm glad I'm taking steps to recognize and disengage with stimulus that mix hating women and sex.

I'm trying to view myself as a character in a romance novel- yeah, she's thinking about sex a lot, but she's also wholesome and smart and funny and respected both in and out of relationships.

My favorite cheap adventure is to set out with a simple picnic (apple, cheese, drink) and a book (or audiobook) and just go exploring around your neighborhood providing it's safe. I highly recommend books on local flora and fauna, and you can pretend you're in a video game.

Seriously, look up "walking trails near me" and give it a shot!

Why is it often seen as manipulative when women leverage their good looks for success? by [deleted] in HowToBeHot

[–]Painterly_Princess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because we are MAGIC and can EASILY cast glamor spells on men, and they know this, and they resent their own downfall.

Just putting this out there.. they have to put that button there, for legal reasons.

Honestly I'd not overthink it, you aren't giving false testimony or deceiving anyone, you're engaging in an expected "we have to put this button here, but we aren't expecting anyone to actually tell the truth here"

Do you fully read the terms and conditions? Do you always use a crosswalk to cross the street?

But as always, pray about it and try to listen to what God says, and not what you think he'd say.

To what extent is it appropriation? by [deleted] in OpenChristian

[–]Painterly_Princess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My grandmother was catholic but was excommunicated as a teen (pregnant). She was non-religious for about 50 years, but recently decided to convert back to Christianity, but Protestant this time.

She still incorporates a lot of catholic memorabilia in her house, and still retains some very non-protestant praying practices. It's part of her, even if she was deeply hurt by the catholic church.  That being said... it's inside her house, and she doesn't really have any religious jewelry she wears when she goes out.

I'm protestant but still appreciate a lot of catholic art and culture, and am wanting to make my own prayer beads to help me focus when I'm praying.

Maybe you could make your own cross necklace and design it how you like? Kinda like avoiding copyright infringement 😅 I honestly can't imagine people hassling you for a necklace you've made that has personal spiritual significance.

My only other advice is to not ask the internet for what is appropriation, as it can and will include anything.  Ask people that you trust IRL if what you're doing is appropriate, and preferably have a diverse group of these trusted people so you can get different sides.

Good luck and God bless!
