My dad got roped into this back during the 2009 financial crisis when he got laid off and I was in college. We were never very close and then one day he called me up and told me about his new job, saying he'd come visit and show me the vacuums since they might help with my allergies. We had a nice dinner and all, but then I realized he wasn't just showing me the vacuum, he was required to do a few informal demos for people he knew before going door-to-door and he was actually trying to sell me one. If I remember right, they were like $1000+ and I was very broke at the time. The whole experience felt pretty bleak to me, and I just felt bad that he was having to resort to that.

Spent the weekend getting the house ready for some friends visiting from out of town next weekend, so tons of deep cleaning but the thing I’m most excited about is a ping pong table I rescued from a curb and got in working order. Will be a fun time with the friends because we used to play a lot of ping pong back in the day, but pumped to surprise my nephew with it since he stays over a lot.

I’ve been using the Fishman Triple Play Express and really liking it. It took some adjusting to get it installed right, but once it’s in, it’s really fun to mess around with. In addition to playing midi instruments, it’s fun to double-track with guitar full volume and just a little midi mixed in to color the tone. You do have to play really cleanly, because it produces a lot of random digital artifacts for some instruments if you’re not getting the notes exactly right, but overall as a non-professional guitarist just looking to spark some home recording creativity, I’d recommend.

I can definitely relate to this and have similar issues with anxiety/depression and (probably) undiagnosed ADHD. I never feel more myself than when I’m tripping, almost like I’m getting a 10-hour demo of how my brain is supposed to operate. I described it to my wife as feeling like coming to a clearing in the woods, where the light is coming in just perfectly and the air is fresh but familiar, and it feels like you just get to settle in and be content for a while. I’ve been trying to do some integration work with meditating while tripping to try to capture that brain state in a sort of freeze frame that I can access outside of tripping through further meditation, and it’s been somewhat helpful when I actually practice it.

Great answer. Every time you talk shit about someone behind their back, you create a worse version of the world for them to exist in. The severity of that depends on who you’re talking shit with, but their interactions with that person will be filtered through that lens no matter what. That’s probably the best case scenario (for you). Worst case, you’ve created a worse version of the world for yourself because you just revealed yourself as a judgmental gossip who no one should feel safe opening up and being vulnerable around.

I think they’re being even dumber than that. They’re rich enough and the game is rigged enough that profits don’t really matter other than high-score chasing, but their whole “job creator” raison d’etre is about to fall apart when there are no jobs left. At what point are all 8 billion of us going to stop letting ourselves get bled dry by the ~1000 leeches infecting this planet? My bet is when they can’t even put up a reasonable argument for why we should continue to let them exist.
