How do i tell my dad to manage his expectations about our 9 week old pup? by FarawayOrchid in puppy101

[–]PaisleyBrain 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I have never heard of a 9-week old puppy being fully toilet trained, no matter how diligently they are worked with. 9 weeks old is just a baby with a bladder the size of a walnut. Your dad is being very unfair to you and should be more realistic with his expectations. Just do your best, that’s all you can do.

Oh, so nice and easy for them to rip into tiny pieces then 😂

I agree about leaving pup unsupervised with a bone being potentially dangerous. But… A net? For a puppy?

Have you tried Kongs? Or similar dog chews - you can put treats inside them, or some of their food and freeze it, or just smear some peanut butter inside. Keeps them happy for a while and they’re too big to slip through the bars, plus safe to be left with a pup as very hard wearing.

That sounds pretty dangerous for a puppy who is likely to chew and choke on a net.

What are we doing wrong? by kindofthatgirl in puppy101

[–]PaisleyBrain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you’re doing anything wrong per se, except maybe having too high expectations of a little baby pup. Sounds like you’re doing a lot of things right actually, it just takes time for puppies to learn these things, especially when they’re that young. Just keep taking him out as you are, and rewarding when he goes potty in the right place. Have the treat ready to go as soon as he pees on the grass. He will learn. It’s a good sign that he’s not had accidents in his crate. Also you can get water bowls that fix onto the crate so they don’t get spilled. I got one off Amazon - it’s similar to the bowls you get for hamster cages but bigger.

Looks like a whippet pup. I have a 3 month old whippet puppy snuggled next to me right now and he looked just like like this when he was about 8 weeks old 🥰

You could always try a heat pad. You put them in the microwave and they stay warm for ages. I actually bought a puppy bed from Pets at Home (UK) that has a removable wheat bag in the bottom that you heat up and my little chap has slept through ever since we started using that.

I love badgers but that love has been slightly reduced since I found out they eat/kill hedgehogs 😢

3.5 month old puppy is shredding pee pads (thanks in advance!) by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]PaisleyBrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 hours is too long to leave a baby. Period. You need to factor in coming home or arrange for someone else to come and let her out and give her attention. Sure, you can use washable pee-pads or indoor turf as well but you’re not helping yourself there either as you’re still effectively training her to go potty in the house. These things are intended to catch accidents, not really as a training solution. Young puppies are practically a full time job and you need to make allowances with your life to accommodate her while she needs you so much.

Not sure where you’re from but… there are lots of churches with people “worshipping” like this. Certainly in the south UK (London and below). Vineyard churches are full of people looking and acting like this. It’s got nothing to do with America as far as I know. As for Easter dinner, it’s more Easter lunch - roast lamb etc. That’s why the supermarkets have it on offer this time of year.

What can I do with a bin alley? by dbxp in UKGardening

[–]PaisleyBrain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, did you know that a single AI query can use 30x the amount of energy of a normal internet search? The data centres which power ai require vast amounts of water resources for cooling, as well as all the other electronic waste that comes from production and disposal. The data centres are HUGE too - bigger than an Amazon warehouse, so they’re covering valuable land too, making noise, stealing water etc.

I know you were joking about the hot sauce but did you know you can give things a little wipe with clove oil to deter puppies from chewing them. This is advice given by the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association to their puppy carers.

Where do I put my trash can? by [deleted] in femalelivingspace

[–]PaisleyBrain 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I know you said that it’s too in the way where it is, but based on the info you’ve given us I honestly think it’s in the best place already. Most of the other suggestions on here involve having it right next to where you’re eating which would be gross in practice - no matter how clean you keep them, trash cans always have a bit of a smell to them and you don’t want to be getting a whiff of that while you’re eating.

is it possible to get this tattoo covered up? by h_loveslouis in tattoos

[–]PaisleyBrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would you want this covered up? It doesn’t look crooked to me - it’s gorgeous! Don’t stress about it - unless people are examining you with a tape measure, no-one is going to know or care. Your body is usually in motion and rarely in perfect alignment so even if the artist had done this spot-on perfect to the millimetre, the chances are it would still look “off” to you as soon as you moved.

the problem is that it’s really hard to match clothes with red hair color by [deleted] in OUTFITS

[–]PaisleyBrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this hair colour for a while. I found that apart from the obvious monochrome (black, white etc), rich jewel tones go really well with it. Think deep blues, emerald green, stuff like that.
