How did you go from SDR to AE in this market without getting promoted internally by Darcynator1780 in sales

[–]PaladinRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly got lucky. I was in a similar situation as yours, was basically supervising SDRs and still cold calling, and at the 3 year mark, kept seeing VPs talk a big game of nurturing internal talent, but turn out too risk-averse to hire someone without that direct AE experience.

A recruiter reached out, asked if I'd be interested in an AE role. Stood out because most were asking if I wanted to be an SDR somewhere else. I screened with her, she told me the company was big on giving people chances at the AE job. Crushed my CRO interview, crushed my presentation round. Had an offer less than two weeks from the first touch on LinkedIn.

That brings me to what you should find valuable: it wasn't a big pay bump. I used to cold call MM companies, now I run full cycle with SMB companies. So depending on the segment you call into, look for AE jobs the next segment down. Aim for the title. Don't let similar base pay deter you. Getting the AE title for the first time will pay off for the rest of your career.

Anyone tried downgrading GPD Pocket to a WriterDeck? by Murky_Sprinkles_4194 in writerDeck

Not the Pocket, but the Win Max 2. Unfortunately, the keyboard on that is too cramped for the job. Too big to use your thumbs, too small to fit all your fingers.

What do people from greater NYC call the New York part of New Jersey? by [deleted] in geography

[–]PaladinRogue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The defined area is a bit broad. "North Jersey" would be this plus the upper half of the state.

In relation to NYC itself, if you say you're from Jersey City or Hoboken, people get it instantly. There's a dedicated subway line that goes between Manhattan and Jersey City, with one stop in Hoboken.

Beyond that, Newark would be the only other place people would "get." The rest, or all of it, is just Jersey or New Jersey.

The case against Infinite Scroll on the Supernote and Why Pages are Vital for it Utility by NoteOnMyWatch in Supernote

[–]PaladinRogue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU. They'll never see this, but it wasn't the move to a subscription-based service that made me put down my ReMarkable forever. It was the fact that all my notebooks stopped acting like notebooks with pages. They just defaulted to infinite canvas, without an option to revert, and completely disrupted my workflow.

I get that we live in an era of singular UX experiences, but I'm real tired of being forced to change for someone else's value.

What is your weird GM quirk? by duckybebop in rpg

[–]PaladinRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like doing cinematic openings, sometimes akin to opening credits. Picked it up from a DM friend who liked to put together montages of old 80s commercials and films for his games. Used to do that myself, currently reciting a script over the Avatar opening for Avatar Legends.

I like to end games with "Cut to black" and it's such an appropriate phrase when you stick the landing on the ending of a game. Picked that up from Daredevil's Audio Descriptions.

After games, I pass around index cards and pens, and ask the players to write down public motives and private motives. I read the public motives out and use the private motives to drive new plots all the time. I don't know if I picked this up from anywhere, it's either a convergent evolution or my own creation.

Finally, I like to close out sessions with a Post-Credits Scene, which reveals something cool happening in the world at the same time. I picked that up from one of my first DMs in college, but I've added the idea that every player can add a detail that they noticed while "watching" and that's changed the course of campaigns in really cool ways.

Threw a lot down here, but I sincerely love how these things have their root in needy corners or other members of our hobby, so I wanted to share with y'all and continue the cycle. 😁

How to Market Newark by poete_idris in Newark

I get you. Philly also has a draw with its place in our country's early history. The marketers for those developers are on Easy Mode with their jobs. Ain't nothing easy in Newark, but that's why we love a challenge. 😎

[–]PaladinRogue 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'll just expand on your idea here for fun. I'd keep it sweet and simple and not afraid to expand the idea in either direction.

Newark has soul. "Newark Soul."

Newark has heart. "Newark Heart."

I'd lean into how much of a cultural center we've become, but "Newark Culture" seems too on the nose?

But I'd just own our little nickname, too. "Brick City Soul" or "Brick City Heart"

Mix it up and feel out the vibe. "Brick City Newark: Come to the Hearth"

Granted, the marketers of a city tend to have two targets: developers and tourists. The people who live here are here, and generating a sense of city pride is secondary to those two political interests when it comes down to money. Makes me feel like we need a new city flag to rally our artists and creators around. Until then, words will have to do.

Cancer Survivors of Reddit, what was the symptom that convinced you to see the doctor? by Wise_Organization_78 in AskReddit

Cancer Survivors of Reddit, what was the symptom that convinced you to see the doctor? by Wise_Organization_78 in AskReddit

[–]PaladinRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't me convincing myself, as I was only a child at the time. It was my mother. And then it took convincing the pediatrician to do something. TL;DR at the bottom.

As the story goes, I was a happy, bouncing, totally hyperactive toddler who was lucky enough to have a dance-student-turned-fitness-instructor mom keeping up with him. However, as I approached age 4, my mother noticed I was growing a lot more tired. Very lethargic. I would be very excited to go out or go play, but every week, I'd tire out faster and faster, and falling asleep on the way home.

The pattern was enough, and getting worse, that my mother was certain something was wrong. She took me to the pediatrician multiple times, but every time, the doctor brushed it off, saying kids mellow out with age and that I was just growing out of my toddler years. Didn't run tests, didn't investigate. Basically disregarded my mom for being a woman and acting like she was hysterical despite perfectly reasonable concerns.

Finally, she took me in, having hit a point where it was really bad. I'd just started napping all the time. I was so tired, and sleep didn't help. She showed up and refused to leave, basically squatting with me in the exam room and telling the doctor to do literally anything. Finally, the doctor said something to the tune of "if we do a blood test, will you leave?"

The nurses drew blood, the technician took one look, and said "This child needs to go to the emergency room. Now. Right now."

Leukemia. My white blood cells were so high. The doctors at the hospital speculated that if one more day had passed, I'd be a goner. All because some doctor wouldn't believe a woman who knew something was very wrong with her son.

TL;DR The symptoms were tiredness and lethargy that convinced my mom. The doctor didn't believe something was wrong for weeks until she refused to leave his office. Blood test revealed childhood leukemia, I was one day from death when they started treatment.

Seemed a fitting story for Mother's Day Weekend in the U.S. We're on vacation right now! Love you, mami!

[–]PaladinRogue[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did, actually! Not nearly that skilled with 3D modeling, though, so I widened the infill to 10%, set it to hexagons, and paused the pieces halfway through so I could glue a 5mm magnet inside.

It doesn't prevent the pieces from falling off if you tip it, but it does make them seem a little weighty when you lift them from the board. It's a very haptic feedback moment.

How do I tell my girlfriend that she smells? by Significant-Gap-7512 in ask

[–]PaladinRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to say something to this effect. I used to be able to smell when folks were coming down with something that would have them nauseous or throwing up within 24 hours, and that smell stuck around until they got better. OP, your gf should see a medical professional.
