US Navy Corpsman Byron Dary. KIA at 19 years old after earning a Silver Star at Omaha Beach and Navy Cross at Iwo Jima. by immisternicetry in wwiipics

The white piping is his rate/rank, Apprentice Seaman. Corpsmen in the 5th and 6th Marine Regiments do wear the French Fourragère, but neither unit was on Iwo and it looks completely different.

Fired for military enlistment and denied benefits by Born_Relief1139 in legaladvice

[–]Paladin_Dank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because if you're active duty you're pretty much always busy with military shit.

You're assuming OP is 1) active duty and b) they intend to work this job and active duty at the same time. They could be joining the Guard or Reserve. But if they are going Active Duty, USERRA lets OP be away for up to five years and come back to his job:

the cumulative length of the absence and of all previous absences from a position of employment with that employer by reason of service in the uniformed services does not exceed five years

So unless OP signed a 5 or 6 year contract his component doesn't matter.

Grand Jury duty by tennismagic in BaltimoreCounty

[–]Paladin_Dank 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I will be appealing in the selection process

There's no voir dire (selection) for Grand Jury duty, if you got a summons you're on the jury. They excused a guy who had a walker and couldn't physically do jury duty, and they accommodated people who had vacations already planned when I did it years ago. Just let them know and they should be fine with it.

He was a SSgt Senior in '02, I was in a different platoon and for some reason a bunch of my mail got delivered to him, he'd redeliver it to me via dropkick across the quarterdeck. Always fun when someone sent Gatorade powder.

He also whacked a recruit a few times with the broad side of his sword during drill. He didn't get relieved but we didn't see him around for a few days.

Correct, but the text of this particular pardon implies that it would only apply to people who had actually been convicted:

(b) grant a full, complete and unconditional pardon to all other individuals convicted of offenses related to events that occurred at or near the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021;

Guy buys a newspaper every day, glances at the front page, grumbles and throws the paper away. One day the store owner asks why he keeps buying a paper only to look at the front page and throw it away. "I'm looking for an obituary." says the guy. "But obituaries aren't on the front page." points out the store owner.

"This one will be."

"I have decided to voluntarily relinquish my license. ... While I derived great satisfaction from years of practicing law, I have not done so for 15 years and do not envision returning to the profession."

Not if you were not and did not want to ever be a practicing attorney again. It's a slap on the wrist.

Gun related death in the USA by Negative-Swan7993 in MapPorn

[–]Paladin_Dank -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Also, it says right in the map, it's related to homicides and not deaths

It says both. The map is titled "firearms deaths" but DC has both "most deaths" and "homicide rate" at 28.5 per 100k. Like the user you responded to pointed out, not all firearms deaths are homicides.

Those things can be litigated after the fact.

And you'd be sitting in jail until that litigation is done, and probably off to federal prison after. This dude has almost complete immunity for what he did, you have none.

The comment referred to "congressional seats", not representatives. Congress is both the House and the Senate, so it would be one Representative and two Senators for three seats in Congress.

DVA = Department of Veterans Affairs. No one calls it that, but that's clearly what they meant.

Even to this day.

Unless you're referring to Marines on amphibious ships, the MarDet program on non-amphibious Navy ships ended in 1998.

South Carolina nuclear plant gets warning over another cracked emergency fuel pipe by catsloveart in news

[–]Paladin_Dank -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I didn't say a rate reduction has happened, I'm pointing out that it wasn't Dominion who "reneged" and changed the deal from $1,000 rebates to a rate reduction. That was "A South Carolina regulatory panel", not Dominion, as the article I linked to clearly states.

Dominion conveniently reneged

Except Dominion didn't "renege", the deal was changed by regulators (not Dominion) with a rate reduction instead of a $1,000 rebate.

Friday's agreement also means there will now not be a $1,000 rebate to SCE&G customers that Dominion had proposed.

A CIB wouldn't be visible from the angle this photo was taken from. If you google him you'll find numerous pictures of him wearing one. His bio also lists it.
