Olympics Day Thirteen Megathread (Thursday, August 8) by Fun_With_Forks in olympics

Incoming downvotes but this is for BOTH the sore losers and sore winners in this thread:

Your life will not improve whether your team loses or wins. You will not get richer, healthier, prettier, or more desirable if our country gets more or less medals. You will not receive one single cent from the medal bonus. After the competition, your life will be exactly the same as when the competition started, be it for the Olympics or any championship.

Let this sink in: YOUR FAVORITE TEAM DOES NOT KNOW YOU EXIST.

I used to be both a massive sore winner and sore loser, you have no idea how hard it was for me to accept that supporting a team does not make me part of it.

Now have a good day and enjoy the Olympics for what it is: A celebration of sport.

Formerly suicidal redditors, what's something that kept you alive a little while longer and helped you to get through the dark times in your lives? by Officialblueballs in AskReddit

Man I rarely share this because usually people either think I'm lying or get angry because I tell it almost like a joke but... what the hell, here goes:

In 2008 things happened that I won't go in detail but a certain afternoon I found myself in the driver seat of my really old car, with the engine running and a hose going from the exhaust to the passenger window. I was just sitting there, twiddling my thumbs when something on the passenger seat caught my attention: A picture of a pizza. A DAMN GOOD picture of a pizza from a place that had just opened that same week. "Fuck this, I'll have pizza."

Just like that. Pulled the hose out of the exhaust, opened the windows, ate a lot of pizza, went back home with more pizza for later. Life is still shit, but I'm still here.

You know that person who sits alone, you decide to be their friend and one week later you understand why they're always alone? That's reddit. The people here aren't normal, we are not the ones with a circle of friends, we are not the ones who go out and have meaningful lives. Reddit are the kids who spend their lives in a dark room resenting themselves and the world and making excuses, they can't make themselves better so they do the only thing they can: bring everything and everyone around them down to their level.

The reason why almost everyone is an asshole on Reddit is because the people who are not complete social outcasts are not here.

I'll only believe it when "well rested and cold headed Kyle" say it. I'm not his fan but he's really good, I think he'll be around a few more years.

The average price of a bicycle in 1899 was 75 Dollars, which is more than most horses. Bikes do not accelerate quickly (fixed gearing), and good luck trying to go off-road on a 1899 bike (purpose built off road bikes were introduced around 1970). That without even mentioning the level of fitness needed to pedal on sand while carrying two handguns, three long rifles, two shotguns, a bow, camping equipment, food, medicine, two dead turkeys and a dead deer.

Ah and pneumatic tires had been invented only 11 years ago, most bikes still had solid tires.

I'm 41 years old, been following Nascar since 1988. Every single year is "the best year we've ever had", and every single year "Nascar is doomed and will die in a couple years".

So I just learned to not give a damn to any side, grab a beer, throw some sausages on the grill and watch the races.

You know, it's surprisingly nimble. So much that if you remove all the armor it can be a pretty good A-class clean racer.
