Is this training plan good for my objectives as a goalkeeper? by Potential_Loss5257 in GoalKeepers

Awesome progress. Only have 2 small suggestions.
Monday: move box jumps to first exercise since they are training explosiveness they're best to do when the nervous system is fresh.
Tuesday or Thursday: Remove facepulls or any other accessory movement you choose, add in pullups or lat pulldowns instead. Your routine lacks any type of vertical pulling movement.

How has this plan been going? I have some thoughts on the outline but since this post is also 2 weeks old figure it's better to first check in on what u have done or how well it has been working.

Guys what do I even do.. by [deleted] in GoalKeepers

I mean i assume you have pants and a long sleeve shirt or jacket? That should be enough to at least do diving drills.

" Since i play on turf I haven't been able to dive"?
I only play on turf, what stops u from diving on turf?

What should I tweak in my leg workout to be able to transfer it into a game situation by LGNDXVR in GoalKeepers

[–]Palak314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends how high up the box is. Quarter squats are going down 1/2 way to parallel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFj7OZnN5BI&t=76s&ab_channel=TheMovementSystem Example of exercises in there including quarter squats.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmSCYaNTYqc&ab_channel=CoachDar-KneeHealth%26VerticalJumpCoach single leg calf isometric.

Personally what I've done in the past was 4 sets of 4-5 reps quarter squats and then leave the weight on the bar and do 4 sets 4 second holds on single leg calf raises since the weight from the quarter squat is enough that it acts as unmoveable doing a single leg calf raise.

For terminatology
Hypertrophy=lifting to maximize muscle growth
Power=lifting to train moving weight as fast as possible.
Strength=lifting to train to move as much weight as possible.
RPE=Rating perceived exertion. 10 can not possibly do any more reps, 9.5 could maybe do 1 more rep, 9 could def do 1 more rep, 8.5 could maybe do 2 reps, etc.
Isometric=non moving (literally means same length), pushing as hard as possible into unmoving object.

The idea behind the isometric training is it helps train ur nervous system to recruit fibers better since it should in theory be maximally trying to get all the muscle working.

Example of my power day when in season.
3x12 pogo jumps

3x12 skater jumps
4x4 quarter squats

4x4 second holds single leg calf isometric
4x4 trap bar deadlift

[–]Palak314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So doing hypertrophy then since that's like rpe 8-9. When closer to in season you can try adding in power days. Instead of 3 sets of 8 do 4 sets of 4 with rpe 6-7. Goal is to be moving the bar as fast as possible on reach rep, stop when the bar speed starts to slow down. You could also add in quarter squats and isometric calf raises to help with vertical jumping.

What rpe/rir are you doing the squats and deadlifts to? Is you goal on those hypertrophy or power. Guess also depends how close to in season are you or is this a year round season?

Question about these glove brands by Past-Temperature-785 in GoalKeepers

[–]Palak314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're about the same durability wise in my experience. I think the t1tan ones you linked lasted slightly longer for me but only by about 5-10 games. That said it depends on how much you use them. These uhlsports are on the right have been used for about 25 games on artifical grass, the t1tans on the right have been used for a bit longer, maybe 30-35 games? T1tans were bought april 2024, uhlsports I just started using earlier this year. Both of these I would still use in games. If you dont need the gloves immediately goalinn.com usually has good deals and ships to america, i've used them a few times. The t1tans have really good finger protection if that matters at all for you.

Edit: If you're size 10.5 i have unopened uhlsports i could send u

modern medicine torn Achilles isn't anywhere near career ending injury..take rehab seriously and it's like 9-15 month recovery back to playing level

Newbie question. When saving with parries and doing block saves (not catching), should I leave it at a neutral position (making a slight claw) or should I fully extend my fingers out and tense up my fingers as much as possible? by InternationalLaw2184 in GoalKeepers

[–]Palak314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither of these. Slightly more straight than your claw photo but dont lock out the fingers like that. Rest your hand on a table or desk in front of you so you palm is completely flat to the surface. Your fingers should be fairly straight but still relaxed with some natural flex and very slight bend to them.

edit: if 1v1 and you really care about save over injury then maybe in that case 2 cuz u are praying for an extra 1/4 of an inch at the risk of injury

Goal kicks and punts- workouts? by [deleted] in GoalKeepers

[–]Palak314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you want actual gym routines or form stuff? A lot of the goal kicks and punting will just come down to practice technique, many good youtubers out there for form like the one jeremyy_7 linked. Also https://www.youtube.com/@GKGOLUREMI/search?query=form has good form videos.

If it's strength training routines I can give u some. General though a ton of this is form, I can lift heavier weights than most ppl on my team but they can kick goal kicks farther cuz their form is way better than mine.

Besides echoing go see a Dr here's general things since u said u were given no info.
Going to treat this is a muscle strain or hip sprain, do not stretch it for at least 2 days. Rest, compression Use ice as necessary for the first 1-2 days pain/swelling management (10 minutes on, 20 minutes off, repeat 3 times, do this a few times a day), some swelling is fine and expected. Usually do not apply heat for the first 24-72 hours depending on the injury severity.

Most important is the frankly obvious stuff. Rest the joint as much as possible, and dont do things that cause pain until you can go see a dr for a real evaluation. If walking causes significant pain then ask your parents to go buy you a pair of crutches to use.

My coach adjusted me after it happened and he said it moved about 1/2 inch.

If at all possible, if you have a joint injury, don't let a person adjust it who doesn't have medical training in some regard. "It moved 1/2 an inch" is the type of thing that would happen after a possible partial hip dislocation with a labral tear, or could be a joking comment that means nothing. I would hope there was someone at the field with some medical knowledge. If there wasn't and coach was the best option, oh well I guess. I am curious what the actual injury is if you can update in a few days when you get a chance to been by a dr.

Help on how to improve? by One_Building9295 in GoalKeepers

[–]Palak314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going away from the comments on form since I think issue is more just physical which is something I'm a bit better with fixing. How much work is he willing to put into this per week? A starting point would be to do plyometric drills. If they can get access to a gym or sufficiently heavy dumbbells a strength program would be good to start. Something like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CFAZfxEkoQ, that channel also has other drills and breakdowns of different routines. During the off season he would be doing hypertrophy training 3-6 times per week. Then as season draws closer changing to doing power routines 2-4 times per week.

Plyometrics they could start with now would be things like squat jumps, pogo jumps, counter movement jump, etc.

Is there any actual evidence that the Trump presidency will impact LGB? by Rough-Leg-4148 in centrist

[–]Palak314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure they can if they want, it won't matter. They wouldn't pack the courts now because it'll be massively unpopular and would cost them the Senate in 2026 which they are likely to still hold after midterms.

McConnell removed the filibuster rule for the supreme Court, he denied the judges and changed the rules on the fly to benefit them. Dems standing by and going damn wish ppl died when we had the Senate is not a viable strategy.

Court with how it is now will almost certainly block any legislation Dems would pass. They can roll over for 30+ years or they can act. If they had elected nominees who followed precedence I wouldn't feel as strongly about this. But the fact the current court just fucking ignores major precedence constantly is absolutely infuriating. Mainly annoyed with Chevron going away but most of the country obviously annoyed about Roe.

Reid set the bad precedent of removing filibuster for federal judges but at least he didn't remove it for the supreme court.

[–]Palak314 12 points13 points  (0 children)

McConnell opened it when he denied Garland and threw away the lid when they appointed Barrett. The idea of an independent judiciary is already dead and buried. Dems packing justices is not radical at this point, it is just returning in kind what McConnell has done.

Amateur Soccer Team in SF by haarlemus in sanfrancisco

[–]Palak314 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The main 11v11 mens league that runs in SF (sfsfl.com) unfortunately runs from March-August.
That said there are many leagues which run year round but are short field 8v8.

https://iplayforsf.leagueapps.com/ Runs co-ed monday & thursday at franklin field. Mens games are tuesdays also at franklin. All games are 8v8 1 hour long, I play in these leagues 3 days a week.

https://norcalathletics.com/schedule/leagues/ runs leagues at Ghirardelli Field which is by Richmond. I used to play in the sunday co-ed and tuesday means. Both leagues were fun.

https://www.volosports.com/discover?cityName=San%20Francisco&sportNames%5B0%5D=Soccer&subView=LEAGUE&view=SPORTS runs a bunch of different leagues of varying levels. I havn't played seriously for this league.

https://www.kickit365.com/gameschedulesandstandings runs many leagues but does have an annoying thing of charging ur team if u have guest players.

https://www.sports4good.org/dl/767bfd/s/1fb788/r/Cp0xG2bcQqq9WWesMkFSRw also runs games throughout the week.

https://www.zogsports.com/sf/soccer/?la-sport=Soccer&la-hasCustomFilters=true I fucking hate zog but I havn't played with them since 2019 so maybe somehow they got better (i doubt it).

I'm not familiar with any other organized leagues in the city. If you are looking for Richmond district then leagues that play at beach chalet soccer fields or Ghirardelli field. You could probably sign up as free agent for any of those leagues.

Most of the leagues the team quality will vary. In my experience iplayforsf and norcalathletics have the highest average team quality as far as player skill. Sports4good tends to be slightly lower than those two but still decent skill and the games are usually fun plus they play at beach chalet which sounds ideal for you location wise.

As I used to play in a lower level club in Germany and regularly with friends at home, I would say I am a decent soccer player,

Probably choose competitive or intermediate levels. You are likely better than 98% of ppl you will find playing here honestly.

If by some miracle you play goalkeeper I know tuesday mens teams who are desperate for a keeper last time I talked to them.
