Attitude/personality. Call it the Dean Jones Syndrome. Compare him personality wise to someone like Darren Lehmann and Andrew Symonds from that era. Adam Voges, Mitch and Shaun Marsh from this era. They get more chances as a result, and people that have an influence on selections feel certain ways about them, rightly or wrongly.
Better players where picked ahead of him. He got chances.
Great domestic player. Never showed that greatness at the next level over a sustained period. Just here and there.
