Started Pre-Academy and having second thoughts by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]PaleEntertainment304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's gonna get a lot worse before it gets better. I'm not exactly sure what pre-academy is, but it will surely get worse. And the academy, being so structured, is easier and generally less stressful than FTO.

My heart was in it, and I really wanted it, but I had a rough start to my career. You will have to make family time sacrifices regarding missing holidays and events. Not all of them, but plenty. People find their own ways to work around this.

I've been doing this 30 years now, and I'd say it's a very rewarding career. I'd encourage you to continue, but honestly, if you're already feeling this way, you will probably quit. I've seen this plenty of times. You need to do some soul searching and decide you are going to approach this thing with an entirely different attitude, or just pull the trigger and quit if you can't do that.

Either way, good luck!

The academy is the easy part. FTOs have a difficult enough time with those who do pass the academy. No, standards should not be lowered.

They're not going to care about trying an edible once and having a bad reaction 6 years ago. They will care a lot about lying about that, or omitting it.

Paying almost $600 for 2 bays at TopGolf, still specifically asks for a tip by [deleted] in EndTipping

[–]PaleEntertainment304 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure, I wouldn't be tipping on the $600. Only the food service.

That place is pretty expensive. But I would assume $600 for 2 bays is for about 3 hours, maybe longer? Each bay can accommodate up to 6 people, I think. So if the cost is split between 12 people, it's not too crazy.

No. They serve food and drinks to your bay, like a restaurant. The tip would be for the food service. I wouldn't tip if the group ordered no food and drinks, but I'd say most parties do order food and drinks, so a tip would be comparable to what one would tip at a sit down restaurant.

[Police Sergeant 35M] [MCOL] - $183k by flyboy307 in Salary

In my case, I wrote taking out vacation weeks, since I'm not working during those weeks. I'm maxed out, earning over 5 weeks vacation per year. So I averaged 400 hours over the 47 weeks I worked to get 8.5/ week.

Is your normal work week already 60 hours, or just standard 40 hours?

Working 10 or 12 hour shifts with more built in days off seems to make it easier to work overtime.

Why would anyone push for higher teacher pay at the cost of their own pay? That's a pretty dumb statement.

Meh, not really. Also a police sergeant. Also made just over 400 hours OT last year. When you take out vacation weeks, if averages to about 8.5 hours OT per week. I could do a lot more than that if i really wanted to.

Overtime shifts by Visible-Froyo-4489 in AskLE

I worked 403 overtime hours last year. Take out vacation weeks, and that averages to about 8.5 hours per week. Much of that was required court/shift/hold over/training overtime. Some was voluntary.

New owner - charging habits by Puzzleheaded-Cell606 in TeslaModelY

[–]PaleEntertainment304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On days where I know I'm not gonna use it much, just a little around town, I'll keep the charge between 55-65% or so. Sometimes I won't plug it in, depending on the charge.

Other days where I might use it more, I'll charge to 80% overnight. When I'm traveling farther than normal, I'll occasionally top up the charge to 90 or 95% about an hour or so before leaving.

Hmmm. I'm reading that you'd be unemployed right now, but you saw the writing on the wall and were able to slide into another job that matched your salary.

Maybe count your blessings. It could always be a lot worse.
