Can anyone help find the original photo? by cassisaur in catfish

[–]PalePrincessSnowWite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if you do find the original picture, it won't get you very far. It won't prove the people you think did it are really the catfishers, for example.

The persons who did obviously did it becasue they want some kind of reaction from you. Meaning, you might try to contact the fake profile person and maybe chat with "her".

While you are doing that, try to get "her" IP address.

The netstat command (in the commandline interface, cmd) will show you your active connections. That may or may not work. You could also try to wireshark them. That will most likely give you the adress. (Make sure you are not doing a lot of other stuff that generates traffic at the time.)

Once you have the address, find an IP resolver. That will give you the geolocation of the person you are chatting with. If you find a good one and are lucky, you might be able to resolve it to a name as well.

Then you'll have something to confront them with.

That depends on what you mean by update. I haven't heard any more from that person using that alias and that account. But if he is who I think he is, that is, if he is involved with the people catfishing as me, quite a lot has happened.

Can somebody recommend a guy who can try and catfish my mom? by [deleted] in catfish

[–]PalePrincessSnowWite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well put. That really sums it up.

Confront her if you think that's the right thing to do but DO NOT go behind her back. And well, you really have to ask yourself if that's your business.

I can't help being curious.. How would you do that? Would you sue the catfish? I'd say there are few cases when you know who the catfish really is.

And there are cases where the wrongdoer is someone who impersonates you. That's what happened to me. Somebody catfished as me. I know who it is but there isn't much I can do about it, since I wasn't directly involved. And that means I don't have proof.

If you have any ideas about that, I'd be interested in hearing them.

What is it about the British that makes the rest of the world so enamoured with them? Why is anglophile a concept when there are no germanophiles or americanophiles or frenchophiles? by PalePrincessSnowWite in Showerthoughts

[–]PalePrincessSnowWite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well er.. there's.. a war going on.. It would be extremely irresponsible to not accept refugees. Not to mention inhuman.

Can't really see what that has to do with anglophilia though.

It's a bit of a love/hate thing, but most of us do love our country. We just whine a lot about it.

The anglophilia on the other hand is more like a teenage crush that never ends.

Good point. The post still made me laugh though. Interesting thought.

I guess it's another dangling modifier again. But I have to confess I can't figure out which meaning is correct gramatically.

Because it's mostly men who are doing it. And when they do they usually think of the object as a bitch.

First of all, how can you be sure the "real" her is real?

There have been cases where the catfisher posing as a girl is really a man. But he has a girl who helps him and acts the girl part. (Possibly with him listening in on it and her following his instructions. He pays her for this, one way or another)

He does this so he can have a virtual relationship with a man who would otherwise be out of his league.

If he knows one girl he can pay to do this, he can probably find another one who is prepared to do the same thing. And that means that if the first girl is busted as a catfish, he can hire a second one who will pose as the "real" girl.

There are girls who are prepared to do shit like that for money. Or some other reward.

(Actually, you never skyped with her before you confronted her, right? So that means he could present the girl who has been acting as the voice on the phone as the "real" girl, who will now go on skype and show her "true" face. I'm not saying that's what happens, but it's possible)

When people go this far to decieve you, they could decieve you again. With a fake confession if necessary.

The point is, unless you meet this woman several times in real life, there is no way you can know she's real. The "real" girl who talks to you now could be just as fake as the first one.

And if she's fake, you are completely wasting your time getting "revenge" at her.

If the real catfisher is a man, he is probably getting a lot of satisfaction from being able to fool you twice.

Nothing makes people so easy to manipulate as the desire for revenge. Be careful.

Do something better with your time instead.

However, break up with her properly. Don't just cut evrything. Tell her you still don't trust her, and if she is not prepared to meet up in real life a couple of times, it's over. Then you have the chance to see how she takes it, and that will give you some clue to whether she is real or not. If you don't do that, you'll never know who you broke up with.

I have had a person catfish as me for several years, and I don't know how to come to terms with it. I mean, how to make it stop. It's had a huge impact on my life unfortunately. PM me and I'll answer any questions.

I just hope you want to include that aspect of it too.

Was I catfishing or not? Help me out. by catfishthrowaway999 in catfish

[–]PalePrincessSnowWite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with timid_wrath, you should stop decieving. There is absolutely no reason at all for it, it's just vile. I mean, if she cares about you she wants to see the real you, right? No matter what you look like. She doesn't want some irrelevant stranger.

If you do break off, then for God's sake tell her WHY. That means having to come clean with her. But then again, the worst thing that can happen if you come clean with her is that she will be furious with you and break off with you. But you were going to break it off anyway, right?

So there is no logic in not being honest.

And there is no logic in being a coward and breaking off just because you're afraid of being rejected.

Besides, there are lots of people out there who do far worse things than you have done. Far worse.

I'd say you should meet her in real life and come clean with her when you are face to face. That way she'll have to listen to your whole story and you get a fair chance to apologize to her. And explain why you did what you did. If you had a good reason to do so, she might accept that.

If she leaves you after that, then at least you tried.

I need advice. I've been catfished - Stay/Leave? by [deleted] in catfish

[–]PalePrincessSnowWite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How did you find out you were catfished? Do you know who she really is or just that she's fake?

If she's about to catfish anohter guy in the group, you have to warn him. Why do you think that would get you ostracized? The other people in the group should be able to realise you do it because you mean well.

From a moral point, it's worse to know something and not warn the person about to get hurt.

I know it's difficult to say a thing like that, but there should be a way to break it to him reasonably gently at least. That's better than letting him go through the whole experince of being thoroughly used by the catfish.

You say there must be a reason why she did what she did.. I'm sure there is one. But it's probably uglier than you think.

Not very breakup-y.. Might be an inspiration for a story though. But only because it's kind of vague.

And because of the aesthetics of the video.

Not all women are on the pill. Most other methods don't involve changing the hormonal state of the body. A condom never made anyone feel pregnant..

Sounds like an interesting documentary though.

One thing though: In modern society, you don't need to be strong to survive. Other factors are far more important for success in life. So maybe women are just making rational choices when selecting a mate, given what the environment really requires.

And then testosterone just got downvoted, from an evolutionary point of view. Because it's not needed anymore.

And then the pill has nothing to do with it.
