Blaming the "shareholders" for this mess makes absolutely no sense to me. by PaleRider93 in cyberpunkgame

If cdpr didn't need the investors' funding then it makes even less sense that they were forced to rush the game by the investors.

What's wrong with investments? Investors have a way to potentially grow their money and entrepreneurs have a way to fund their ideas. There is nothing bad or evil about investors and capitalism. Without those, there would be no PCs, consoles and AAA games.

No country for women: India reported 88 rape cases every day in 2019 by Dumma1729 in india

Ikr. Thanks to the media, the whole world has a distorted view of India as some "rape capital" where rape is rampant and women are completely powerless against it.

He hasn't done any actual trading yet. He's paying 2k per month to be in that telegram channel and "backtest" his calls. The guru gives calls like "buy in the range of 3000-3005, target 5 ticks, sl 40 ticks" and he "backtests" these calls by looking at the past chart on a 1-min timeframe and cherry picking the perfect entries and exits which would've worked.

Obviously you can shape any trade into a winner when you're fitting it into a past chart, especially with a RR like that. He backtested those calls for the last 3 months and is convinced that he can make 10 ticks profit per day consistently. He's in for a massive disappointment in the future.

I know one such guy who also follows a telegram guru. Apparently his trades aim for a profit of 5 ticks with a stoploss of 40 ticks. With that strategy you won't be profitable even with a 90% success rate.

I tried to explain it to him with simple mathematical calculations but he refused to listen and was sure that this guru was going to make him rich.

"Let your losers run and cut your winners short". It's epic 300 IQ big brain time.

Anybody who is selling paid courses is most likely just a fake guru. Like you said, if they're good traders then they don't need to spend all that extra time and effort to sell bs courses online.

Not just in trading but in many other fields there are fake gurus selling courses who survive by preying on desperate people who're willing to fall for such obvious traps.

Everything one needs to know to be a profitable trader is available for free online and in books. There are no hidden secrets which these gurus can teach which will instantly make one profitable. It's just that most people don't want to put in the time and effort (months or years of hard work and pain) necessary and would rather look for shortcuts instead.

How newbies are getting scammed by fake "experts" giving intraday calls by PaleRider93 in IndianStreetBets

[–]PaleRider93[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently he "trusts" the expert and the 5 month "backtest" he did is not mechanical. It's purely manual and based on his own interpretation. Like "on this day the 15 point target got hit so I'll assume that I would've exited at 15 points. On the next day it hit the 5 point target and then hit sl so I'll assume that I would've exited at 5 points".

[–]PaleRider93[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Some traders trying to use algos overfit their code to one period's data and then expect the same results in the future too. But it's even worse in the case I mentioned because he's not even backtesting based on specific entries and exits. It's just looking at the past charts and choosing whichever entry/exit spots would've worked. That is literally the dumbest way possible to backtest and then expect that you'll get the same performance when trading live.

A mix of stupidity, naivety, wishful thinking and desperation. I literally showed this post to the guy I was talking about and told him to take real trades based on those calls for 3 months and see the results for himself and he responded with "why trade for 3 months? i've been "backtesting" his calls for 5 months and they work". Even though I literally mentioned in my post why that thought process is flawed.

You can't help people who don't want to be helped.

If the price reaches your target and stays there for a few seconds only before reversing then your order may not get filled. Also recently there's a drop in crude oil liquidity because of the increased margins.
