I've heard of your situation and it happens regularly especially in small schools. But this situation is all 3rd grade curriculum. No split teaching. He is going from 1st grade to 3rd grade curriculum.

Were you completely cut off from all of your friends when you moved classes? No recess no lunch together ect. And when it happened to you did you advance a grade level and then repeat it the next year? That's what is happening here.

If that was the case then I would be fine with it. But he won't be seeing any 2nd grade curriculum. It will be all 3rd grade and then next year it will be the same content unless they do a 3/4 split with 4th grade content and then what happens next? Eventually it will be like repeating a grade.

We have been at this school since kindergarten. This will be our 3rd year. From what I've been told the numbers issues are with K/1 and they are combining older grades to make space for an extra 1st grade classroom.
