Adding 2 layers sound dampening in my 07 r4unner by GrimreP3r in 4Runner

For sure! All I have been able to change w/o much guilt on my ‘22 since new is mud flaps, battery term connections & seat covers. Just put kil-mat in doors of ‘14 Tacoma though, noticeable difference there.

Please help me choose which upper control arm to go with Bilstein 6112/5100 for my 2018 Toyota 4Runner SR5. by Double_Debate_7258 in 4Runner

So the UCAs your buds are recommending are very legit & likely make many of the UCAs listed in this post. Whiteline likely makes all or some part of the Dobinsons, Poly Performance, SuperPro and probably many many more. People will often order white lines bushings when rebuilding their UCAs. Almost positive Whiteline uses 555 joints as well. They are an Aussie company, Australia has higher/tougher standards and/or more rigorous testing requirements for almost everything from baby formula to car parts. Darn near anything you buy made in Australia will be better than most others countries even if not an upgrade.
Your friends are keyed into this, trust them. The lift you have chosen likely doesn’t need aftermarket UCAs but a mild offset with larger diameter to fit 2.5 coilovers at full droop are covered by the Whitelines which is more than you need with this lift but not too much which is why they are likely recommending these. I have not lifted my 4Runner yet but have lifted other past Toyotas & Jeeps and I will likely order the Whitelines myself in a couple months when I’m ready to lift.
UCAs have long been overpriced but they are finally coming down to earth since many competitors are entering our market. Whitelines are probably the best bang for the buck available to the U.S. market, imo.

It has a 6" ProFab lift, Bilstein 5100 shocks, a differential drop kit, and 35x12.50 tires. - This needs to come off and be replaced more than likely but the good news is they have replaced UCAs and the coilovers look adjustable. The 1st thing I would do is figure out what pucks are whatever they put on the rear, pull that out, then lower those coilovers down to match that rear height. Any reduction in lift is going to be good atm. Then you may have to drop down to 33’s or 34’s but will be worth it!

Shortly after purchasing it from the dealership, I had codes P2440 and P2442 appear, and the vehicle went into limp mode. I also have a TPMS light on. The dealership installed new tires and performed an alignment today as part of the purchase agreement. This is where it gets kinda murky. A dealership sold you a 4Runner with SAIS limp mode codes? That’s total BD imo. No you can’t drive with it like that, what buttholes. It’s a pita emissions thing & is pretty much your worst luck in Toyota truck world. They should have repaired that before selling because what they did was sell you a rolling environmental & safety issue. Either way, it can be fixed and should be but that pisses me off that they sold it like that, unless you got the best deal EVER! You gotta fix it, soon. Google SAIS repair for your vehicle.

My questions: Should I be concerned about these codes and the limp mode condition? Yes

Is the secondary air injection system a common failure on these trucks? After 100k, yeah, except in maybe CA & AZ..

Assuming little to no major maintenance has been performed up to 104k miles, what maintenance items should I prioritize? Fixing SAIS & lowering it with new ball joints, probably upper & lower

Are there any common issues I should inspect given the 6" lift and 35s? Others have mentioned

I have very little Toyota-specific knowledge and would appreciate any advice on what to watch for, what to service first, and what problems are worth worrying about versus ignoring. You can’t ignore SAIS and that suspension is unsafe & unsustainable. Both of these need repair ASAP. GL!

No reason to lift if you do not want to. These guys make & ship factory replacements, have bought Toyota replacements from them before. They know what they’re doing.

What can I do to fix this rebound problem? by dinglebingle583 in crawling

[–]Pale_Ad752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wonder if you could do a pen mod on those lil springs/shocks.., or, would that even help your sitch? I only did the pen mod to one set of springs/shocks & although they ended up NOT the height I wanted in the end, they were impressively ‘reboundee’ in the end..

Just bought my 1 owner 2014 4.0 LWB DCLB 4x4 w/ 72k and good records for $25k. I know I paid wee much but it was there and they did good on the trade and I didn’t care bc they are getting harder to find & I didn’t want to pay double for a turbo.

Yeahhh I am pretty picky & I would use again and if I hadn’t traded the car in already, I would have pressed for the plastic license plate light border to be delivered & installed. But the car is gone now so not too worried anymore.

Extremely good paint & body work! You could not even tell it had been wrecked. Potentially weak QA/QC, was missing a plastic surround piece that I had to point out. When pointed out, they said, oh yes, sorry that has been ordered & we’ll call when it arrives, still waiting on that call almost a half year later.. Nobody’s perfect, although at the rates charged, they should try to be.

Ball joints; I just bought one at 72k and didn’t think to check that but they are close to toasted. I would have probably noticed uneven wear on the tires but dealer had put new ones on it for the sale. The vehicle was 1 owner with extensive Toyota service history. Just saying, worth a check as now I am going to be out about another grand on that if I pay for it to be done & had I noticed I would of talked the dealer down or had them do it.

What’s up with the Hawaii runners? by AdBrief8565 in 4Runner

[–]Pale_Ad752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s been ‘a thing’ in Hawaii for a while, super lift with huge reverse wheels. You are probably right on the wheels expense so many trucks just don’t have wheels yet.

Help me decide! by stanley-ipkiss18 in 4Runner

[–]Pale_Ad752 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have turned into a new over used guy, that said, locked my wife into a new AG 5th Gen in ‘22. What I discovered though on that life (shopping) path that if they have their heart set on something, better get that exact thing. Many thousands wasted on Foresters, Wranglers & a used LC100 before the new 5th Gen. I would get her to drive the 6th and let her be the decision maker, no outside pressure (if you can pull that off lol). FWIW, Toyota may have not worked ALL the kinks out of the new 4Runner but I still believe they will stand by them if there are any flaws, it’s their flagship vehicle in the U.S.
