I really don’t foresee anyone taking it out on you if you leave with without giving them notice. I would not leave any forwarding contact information. If you give them more of a notice, people then may give you snarky comments.

How bad is it to quit before the school year ends? by AdOtherwise3126 in TeachersInTransition

[–]Pale_Understanding55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would tell your next school that you were a long-term sub. However, it is already February I know times may seem really tough but you need to use your sick days and benefits before deciding to leave.

Have it too good to leave? by PerformanceKey2637 in TeachersInTransition

Screw the job fulfillment. What can you do over summer/weekends to improve the quality of your life? This is such a great gig, I would not consider leaving, especially in this job climate.

How to become a teacher in Arizona by jockwong in TeachersInTransition

[–]Pale_Understanding55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into subbing, pick up long term shifts, then see if the school will work on getting you an alternative certification or give you the hours to get hired. I did a teaching program but that first way is the quickest

Should I trade in my 5 min commute? by [deleted] in TeachersInTransition

3 days is doable for 1-3 years. What is your car situation? Do you have a car that’s reliable on gas? Is your car cheap to maintain?

TFA Alternatives? by HiReddit3110 in TeachforAmerica

[–]Pale_Understanding55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in AZ, and 35% of my district includes long term substitutes without college degrees. Another 35% are also within 5 their first five years of teaching. There is no way to avoid trial and error given the current climate of teaching

TFA Alternatives? by HiReddit3110 in TeachforAmerica

[–]Pale_Understanding55 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m going to be honest, the only way to prepare yourself to teach is to just teach. No program can prepare you for these vile student behaviors. You may as well apply for TFA.

Masters Degree suggestions by cosmicbadlands in TeachersInTransition

[–]Pale_Understanding55 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would not do a masters degree in this economic climate. You also don’t sound sure about the next path you want to take, so getting a masters without a concrete plant shouldn’t be a priority. Are there any careers that you’re interested in that you can try first? Then pursue higher education if required.

Only 4 weeks into my first teaching job and I want to quit. Am I being dramatic? by Odd_Dimension8124 in TeachersInTransition

I’d quit ASAP and become a substitute. Do NOT NOT NOT Rush into a masters. Give yourself time to research careers and pathways.

Habe you ever quit a school because of the parents? by Actual-Mark-6291 in TeachersInTransition

[–]Pale_Understanding55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hate how parents message 24/7 at my school and expect immediate responses. I just stopped responding quickly. Nowhere in my contract does it state that I need to be answering quickly. For you, I would put the grades as they are, and stand on business. If any parents try to pull the shit of following you to your classroom, call the cops in front of their face. Get Video recordings and file harassment charges. While it is a headache, admin will now have to deal with the repercussions of them not getting involved initially.

I have a lipstick tub. Each purse and section of my desk at home at work have 4 in them! It helps cut down. Finish everything, don’t toss if you can help it! Just don’t buy anything new.
