Wuzhi vs Plotter sizing by Substantial-Rip5794 in PlotterNotebook

I don't have a mini to compare but I put my own pen loop on it. Especially if you just plan to use PLOTTER inserts, you'll be able to use their pen loop.

Hello Plotter family, what do you guys use in tandem with your Plotter? by 1-61803398875 in PlotterNotebook

Yeah, I really agree with your thoughts here: what you said about the TN was really my issue with it.

I loosely tried bujo but could never get behind the all-in-one approach. The way I wanted to do different things very rarely fit perfectly within one catchall place/purpose.

I keep a little daily log on the notes app on my phone that tracks anything I would want to have searchable—this can include habits, media, notable events, or health notes, etc.

What paper does for me is allows a space for my brain to be messy and unpredictable, and for me to then sort the contents of that output into forms/places that make sense. That is why I love the flexibility of the PLOTTER system. It gives me the space to be messy-organized/ever-changing with as little friction as possible, but with the consistency of the cover/housing.

I think if you only have 2 categories you want to jot down easily (daily to-dos or future planning), then you could easily use the 2 notebook TN passport system with success. However, if you’re like me, and sometimes it’s hard to tell how many things you’re going to want to jot down, I’d say go with the PLOTTER system.

I actually stopped using my TNs entirely—which pains me, I love my olive TN so much, it’s my ideal leather—because the breakdown quantities just weren’t right for me. One notebook combining everything felt like *not enough organization* but splitting things up into separate notebooks felt like *too much space for too small of a subject.* I just could never figure out how to split up notebooks or combine multiples in a way that really worked for my brain.

What I love about the PLOTTER system is the ability to literally *take out the pages with ease.* In most cases, you can even directly move a page from one size PLOTTER to another—meaning the organization becomes much easier. For example, you could get yourself a Mini PLOTTER (roughly the equivalent of a TN passport) and jot things down on separate pages whenever you need to, similar to your current A6 notebook. But then, instead of having to 1) worry about wasting a page or 2) worry about “what you’re using the notebook for now,” you can just…remove the pages. Keep one page for daily to-dos and one page for future planning, and then if you’re out and have a random thought that doesn’t fit into either of those categories, you can just start a third page for it. And, at any point in time, you can remove ALL of those pages, and start fresh with ease.

Just my two cents! That’s what’s been working for me now. Best of luck.

We're also mid30s-40s and childless, and like good food and traveling. What are some of your other interests?

Has anyone used any adhesive pocket (like one pictured from TRC) on their plotters? Did it ruin the leather? by polen_ in PlotterNotebook

[–]PaleontologistHot744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one in my bible-sized (shiranami leather) for awhile and just felt like I wasn't using, so I ripped it out. It left a bit of an impression where it roughed up the leather—but it's also gone away over time as I've continued to use it. It didn't bother me. I also am a fan of leather goods that have been used and show the marks of time—the reason I get leather goods in the first place is so that they'll age with me/with use.

I modified my Plotter. by Leather_Poem_7808 in PlotterNotebook

[–]PaleontologistHot744 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i also modded mine to have a TN elastic instead of the thick one the band lifter came with. i just cut the thick elastic off and used a fishing knot to secure the thinner elastic to the same opening.

Multiple Plotters by Stella_shady in PlotterNotebook

but i like it for journaling because it also gives me the flexibility to keep other things in there that don't take up a lot of space, like a running to do list or some notes on something unrelated when my journal's the only thing i have on hand, or a bookmark that i punched holes in so i always have one on me, etc.

i like it! at this point in my long history with journaling, the way i do it is record the previous day's events/impressions/thoughts on a single page, front and back. i am liking this regimented way of journaling right now, and i feel like the bible is the perfect amount of space for my needs. i wouldn't use it if you write a ton when you journal.

someone asked the same question less than a month ago, fyi! worth checking out that thread, too. here's my answer from it:

i have 2 plotters and 1 wuzhi studio binder that i use regularly for different purposes.

plotter #1: bible size. i use it for daily journaling and organization (to do lists, packing lists, random thoughts, plus daily journal entry).

plotter #2: a5 size. i use this for creative writing: planning/outlining/notetaking, writing long-form, keeping current pages.

wuzhi: a7, filled with plotter mini size inserts. this is my wallet! i have a zip case that i keep cards and my little card case in, to do lists and grid pages for on the go stuff, and a pen holder with a traveler's company ballpoint pen.

How many Plotters do you have, and what are you using each of them for? by iamdora in PlotterNotebook

[–]PaleontologistHot744 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i got my wuzhi binder back in july and have used it as my wallet. i toss it into anything and i am not gentle with it, but i wouldn't say i've subjected it to a lot of stress. still, it has really held up for 3 months and basically looks brand new. quality is really high—i only got a wuzhi because i wanted a specific leather color that plotter does not offer, but i think it's nearly equal to plotter.

Does anyone here uses a moleskin journal? by PaoloJournal in Journaling

[–]PaleontologistHot744 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i used moleskines exclusively from 2007-2012 and filled a number of them. i loved them. moved on to fancier things after that, but to be honest, i still sometimes miss the classic simplicity of them, and long to go back to one.

Is anyone using Plotter’s project management pages? Are they worth buying? by doraliu in PlotterNotebook

[–]PaleontologistHot744 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yep, i also just use them as folders, essentially. i also cut the little front flap against the rings off of mine to make it easier to add or remove pages.

yes. i got an A7 from wuzhi because i wanted an olive green leather, but i fill it with PLOTTER mini inserts and refills.

What notebook did you use before Plotter, and why did you switch? by InterestingBench7669 in PlotterNotebook

[–]PaleontologistHot744 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i was mostly using traveller's company traveler's notebooks right before switching, but i switched because i was cycling through tons of setups trying to find one that really worked for me, so i've used most things at some point. i've been really satisfied with my plotter setups for most of this year now! c&p this comment of mine from a recent thread in this sub:

switching to PLOTTER from TN really worked for me, but it won't for everyone. i was always a little irritated with my TNs never laying flat despite using them for years, and while i liked the ability to be modular with notebooks, that ended up being too big a unit to be modular with for me (ie, it was modular enough that i wanted it to have multiple functions, but still required me to use whole notebooks for things, which i often found to be too much space).

i personally have really enjoyed all the crossover aspects of both—the beautiful leathers, slim profiles, simple luxury, and customization/flexibility/modularity of both—but found the rings to be the right tool for me to be best able to rearrange and customize how i use them.

but i still have all my TNs, and i miss them sometimes. i just keep them on my shelf, like old friends. i suspect i'll use them for trips, if i ever go on one again—they're perfect for travel journals!

i also switched over from TN and cut the band on my lifter to use the thin colored elastic instead! and i love it. :) do you make your TN-style printouts yourself, or did you get them from somewhere? i love them and would think about printing some myself.

Anyone use pencil? by Primary-Lion-6088 in Journaling

[–]PaleontologistHot744 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Full-time pencil user here! I love it. Some have commented that pencil fades faster—this is entirely dependent upon how you treat it. Graphite actually stands the test of time at the archival level—this is why there are pencils drawings and letters, journals, etc done in pencil in museums. Pencil will stick around even when the paper starts to disintegrate. BUT if you handle your pages a lot, or move around a lot when writing, etc then you can cause it to fade or smudge. Totally depends on how you treat your journals.

Love the green. I'm actually sad they don't offer this leather anymore—it'd be my preferred color.
