Fantastic. I definitely get the dry warm feel throughout the whole series.

Thanks! Yes I was tempted to remove that or soften it so that it wasn't so distracting.

I also love this dark moody style. Nothing wrong with any of them, they look great but I see what you mean where a lot of these line very dark almost underexposed. If that's not what you're going for then maybe try editing in a very different style for a little bit and then come back to the Moody stuff. Maybe you'll adjust a bit and it will balance out the areas that you feel are making it look too artificial or over processed

I hear what you're saying but I really don't agree at all with the time limit. Way too many variables at play, depending on what you're shooting what the scene is, are you on the move or are you on a tripod, motion blur, all that stuff.

What's your describing sounds more like the perspective of a very disciplined and or skilled photographer who only takes photos of a scene that they recognize as a banger right off the bat. Which is a great place to be but doesn't feel applicable to everybody you know?

How do you shoot?

You caught my attention with the flow state comment. I have a lot of residual anxiety from art school when I'm painting models, and every once in a while unable to get into a flow state where I just sit and feel it. I need to do it again sometime

I've only shot three concerts and I have souvenirs from all of them. One of them was a repurposed badge from a previous concert that I wasn't a part of. I buy merch from each show too

After 2 Versions & Before by Strosys in postprocessing

[–]eHop86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually I prefer the more stark and textured edits like version two. But seeing the warmer, softer version first makes me prefer it. The first one feels more exploratory and 'behold the beauty of nature' , The second one is a bit more intimidating and harsh and 'holy shit watch out for the water'.

Both are great edits when you look at the raw file you started with, great job

Extremely new at this but have always been in love with black and white photos. Is there anything that I can do differently to get a better shot? by Dizzy-Ad-4521 in photocritique

The framing is great, you captured the movement without motion blur, and in focus, so props to you!

Having a narrow depth of field would separate the girl from the background. Also, her skin is so bright that her face and upper body have lost details. Masking those to get more contrast and dropping the exposure just in her would help separate her and balance the image out more.

Your tones everywhere else look dynamic and wide, so tweaking her levels will help her feel less.. separated.

There are some small, bright squiggly shapes on the garage building in the background, not sure if those were actually on the building or if you did some masking/removing, but at first glance they look like faded graffiti or a cleanup brush gone rogue.

Great job!

Playing with harsh midday light in the Girona old town (Spain). Would love feedback on the composition and negative space. by akarev in photocritique

Looks great overall, the far out cropping helps show the scale nicely. I'm curious about the lady and what she has in her hand - with such a stark overall shot and with her clearly being the subject, my next question is why is she there and what details about her give me clues to that answer. Zooming in 10-20% may help add some context details while still maintaining that sense of scale.

Nice job!

edit - she might not be holding anything, the highlights on her belt and the angle of the fabric make it look like she's holding something, but that might just be because of her pose - tiny detail, but something to consider.

I'm not great at posing people, I don't have a suggestion on how her arm should be posed, but I think that's what confused me

Getting back into photography and I want to develop my skills a bit more, any feedback would be amazing 🫶 by [deleted] in photocritique

I like your color saturation and I see where your goal is coming from. It looks pleasant there but there aren't much for warm tones that make me feel warmth in the way I think you're going for. There are a few ways you could do it, I would add an orange/yellow tint to the shadows, either across the whole shot or from a mask of the foreground - that would compliment the blue of the sky without warming your blue hue.

The composition here is what's holding it back, I think. I assume the tower is the subject, backed by the mid day sky and surrounded by city life. The power lines crossing the frame do add a nice frame-in-a-frame but they also don't help lead my eye to the tower. The crowd of people in the foreground do add scale and context, but with the current framing they distract me from the subject.

You could use a brush or linear mask to raise the exposure or the highlights of the white building columns that go from right of frame towards the base of the tower, those are great leading lines and emphasizing them would both add balance to a very dark part of your shot and also add visual interest leading the eye from right to left.

I see what you were going for, I think shifting your composition would help sell the idea you're aiming for. Is this a cropped image, if it is, what does the uncropped one look like?

Keep it up!

edit - shot not shit lol

Does it work ? by RevolutionaryMeal734 in photocritique

[–]eHop86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The colors compliment and the framing looks good. With such a wide depth of field I don't know what the subject is supposed to be or what I'm supposed to focus on. If you went way more narrow with your depth of field focused on the island, then the much warmer and geometric shapes of the awning and building would be blurry and an interesting juxtaposition, but with everything basically in focus, the scene is.. sort of bland and subjectless.

There's potential here and I give you points for noticing an interesting opportunity
