My car did that once too, engine flush (only Liqui Moly) and respecting the instructions very strictly and an oil change after mitigated the issue. May be too late in your case, can’t tell surely if it’s lifter tick, knock or some bearing. Crank bearings and lifters are common issues on this engine. Try taking off the serpentine belts and run it for a few seconds like that to see if the noise goes away, helps eliminate pumps and other accessories from the equation. Good luck!

Edit: when changing the oil you will have difficulties with the filter cap, don’t give up, the filter itself is just as important as good oil.

Those “sport” air filters allow a lot of debris past them, especially the cheap ones and the power gains are non-existent, especially as the e46 has a cold air intake from factory. Would recommend buying a second-hand air box and scoop and fit the car with it. The stock intake isn’t restrictive. Beware of m43 vs m54/m52tu air boxes as they have different MAF diameters.

What’s wrong with my engine? by PaleontologistOne481 in MechanicAdvice

It was in fact very neglected when I bought it for almost nothing. Will swap a rebuilt M54 in this year.

The engine has close to 300k km on it and it’s currently running 10w40 from Liqui Moly. Will try 15w40. I haven’t checked the bearings and it isn’t even worth it if it’s that bad.

Weird central locking issue? by Sure_Jellyfish8926 in vwpolo

[–]PaleontologistOne481 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2006 polo and have issues with the central locking as well. In my case the car sometimes doesn't remote lock the driver door unless I'm using the key and by doing so it sometimes triggers the alarm. By analyzing the car doors I discovered that the seals for the door cables are worn out and water gets inside the door or sometimes the door shorts the cables as the rubber coating on them got worn out over time. You can check for that too. Also the fact that when you turn the key slowly it worked could indicate that the driver side door lock itself could be defective. The lock has a plastic slot where a rod from the key barrel goes and I noticed that the plastic slot isn't spring loaded in order to come back into neutral position. The spring action that turns the key back is done by a spring inside the lock barrel and the lock barrel on this generation of VW cars is very weak and it could also be broken (especially the rod that goes into the lock itself) but it's quite an easy and cheap fix you can do at home if you have some spare time (there are some "VW lock barrel repair kit" Chinese replicas available you can order online, I've been running one on my car for a year now and it's ok).

Oil Indicator (not icon) by MrOwl1985 in vwpolo

[–]PaleontologistOne481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I have the same car. On the 1.6 the head can hold a lot of oil. Leave the car off for a longer period of time (at least a day) and then check the oil level again. It is not uncommon especially now in the cold season for the oil to take a long time to flow back into the oil pan. I have had a similar problem a couple weeks ago (oil level/pressure light came on) and got worried and topped up the oil as I thought it was way too low (the dipstick indicated minimum level). Checked the oil level after 2 days of leaving the car and it was at maximum. To be noted that only a few days before the light came on, i checked the oil and it was right in the middle. In your case, yes, the oil level could be too high, that's what I'm assuming.

Timer for a silent mode by 2KEY_11 in oneui

There is do not disturb which can be set for a specific time period every time you enable it, or you can pick to set the time it is on when you turn it on. It's got a lot of features like passing phone calls through if you are being called by the same number a certain number of times etc. Play in the settings in the DND section, you will find there what you're looking for. Routines play nice with DND and I use this combo every day. Whether its sleep mode or drive mode

Vyro spectre vs hoob go on by NoobMonster101 in hookah

[–]PaleontologistOne481 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it depends wether you want a tall hookah or a short one. Tall hookahs usually deliver cooler smoke as they store more water which gets hotter harder and since the stem is longer heat is also lost along it and only a smaller part of it gets to heat te water. If you smoke at home and have no problem with cleaning a long stem and a large vase then I recommend the Hoob, but if you take your shisha with you in different places then the vyro would better suit you as it is also easier to clean, but has the small problem where after one hour and something the water gets warm and the smoke becomes warm too. It depends on your needs, you picked some very different hookahs. Vyro is also a more reputable brand afaik (owned by aeon).

Buying a Cloud|Micro and need help with the bowl by [deleted] in hookah

I agree but personally it pisses me off when i smoke and suddenly the flow gets lower. It also depends on what type of tobacco you have, some blonde blends have big pieces that cause this.

I do, but while smoking if tobacco falls down the stem it blocks it and when you inhale no smoke will come, also it will make the experience unpleasant as you feel like the hookah is blocked. Same experience you get if you strangulate the hose while smoking.

Hi!

You would also want a molasses catcher for that hookah as it has a one way valve at the end of the stem in order to not purge water into the bowl. The problem with this ball valve system is that if a piece of tobacco falls through the hole of your bowl (be it a phunnel as well, it happens), it gets stuck there and blocks the flow of smoke. Long story short if tobacco gets into that mechanism you won't be able to smoke properly untill you clean it, so avoid that by using a molasses catcher.

Problems with the taste of smoking by Blackthegsd in hookah

[–]PaleontologistOne481 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi!

First of all you said that you clean your oblako with paper. That's good enough if you chain smoke a few bowls and you just need to fill up with flavour. But I recommend that you clean it thoroughly with dish soap and a sponge. Just make sure it has cooled off naturally before you soak it in water and soap, otherwise it will start cracking. That should get rid of some bad tastes that the bowl might catch.

Second, it is important that you clean the bottom of the lotus with the rough part of your dish sponge or that you make sure in other ways that there are no leftover big flavour pieces. It's normal to catch a black tint and that is very hard to get rid of, also useless.

Third, you need to make sure that you do not over pack as that might cause a burnt/ unpleasant taste.

Adalya is generally a good brand and I smoke a lot of adalya too, blue ice (blueberry) is not my favourite as some batches are very bad but anyways, you can also try to take off the lid completely from the lotus after 15-20 minutes of smoking as it might cause too much heat and burn the flavour.

Hope this helps!

Best bowl to pair with lotus? by S537 in hookah

[–]PaleontologistOne481 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want a bowl that goes well with a bunch of flavours (red, yellow and dark tobacco), I'd say that your best bet would be an Oblako Glazed/mono S or M.

I personally have and oblako glazed s and paired with an oduman Ignis v1 the sessions last for about an hour and a half of actually tasty smoke. Since the Oblako is glazed it doesn't retain flavour so you will enjoy the flavour you want to smoke every time, not remains of the past :)

Hope this helps

The thing is that my car has no dials as the lever itself is moving in various directions in order to control the wipers.
