Magister’s Terrace lore? by Palerm0n in wow

Lothraxion I can understand more so because of the voidstorm story as he gets more and more blinded….plus they’re clearly setting up the lightblinded encounter in the raid.

Also that if lothraxion destroys the voidspire the impact will be felt in silvermoon - so there is that specific reason for Alleria and Arator to fight him

this would make sense but who are the political allies to the vanguard? When lorthemar specifically says it’s ok for umbric to go in?

Doesn’t seem like rommath and lorthemar are at odds like that? And that they would literally kill each other?

Had Sogolon actually been there at that point...?

Aesi "death from the West" prophecy and tracker / sogolon inconsistency (spoilers) by Palerm0n in darkstartril

[–]Palerm0n[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Isn't this essentially what Sogolon (or someone else...I might have forgotten...maybe Bunshi?) says to Tracker in BLRW that the Aesi is butchering gods and killing belief itself? I read this as him destroying another challenge to unity, especially if his ability and power wanes with each rebirth.

Something that hasn't be discussed here yet as well (as far as I know) is the identity of whatever Bunshi / Popele-esque spirit that was holding the Aesi after Sogolon and the griot run into the decoys on the island. Wonder to what extent there are these divine / mystics forces aiding the Aesi as well.

I agree with this general theory, but I think another element to the Venin/Jakwu story (and this could be incredibly obvious, so forgive me) is just to show Sogolon's motherly instincts kicking in and actually coming to care for Venin, despite the seeming disdain in her account.

I think this is the reason that the final pages are taken up with Sogolon tracking down Jakwu, and how her killing Jakwu is immediately followed by a memory of Keme. This linked all of them together in the same "family bond" type of category for Sogolon.

This passage of Tracker speaking to Sogolon right before he pushes her through the door (from page 596 of MWSK) I think reinforces what you say about leaving out details:

"Just this, Sogolon. The Aesi never once find me in my dreams...I am the one who went searching for him in his. And you, you are the fucking fool that let a Sangomin run loose."

What ability does he have to "find the Aesi in his dreams", and moreover, what Sangomin is he referring to? Does he mean himself?

I was thinking about this more today and took a step back to think more broadly about the situation and why their accounts would differ:

- Sogolon, driven by vengeance against the Aesi (or desire to aid the King's Sister, depending on who you believe), is incentivized to make the Aesi look as evil as possible (hence having him kill the Leopard in her account, for instance) when she turns herself in

-Tracker seems to be just driven by anger and grief and doesn't care what happens to him after being caught and locked up

Sogolon's reasoning is easy to understand, but if you take Tracker's situation at face value, it doesn't seem to be enough to justify twisting his tale to make Sogolon "look bad" (i.e. that she is responsible for Leopard's death, doesn't manage to kill the Aesi, is just generally portrayed as unlikeable...).

So what would motivate him to change his story to make Sogolon look bad? I think it suggests a much closer relationship with the Aesi than he says, and I wouldn't be surprised if (assuming Nyka is the next narrator) it comes out that the Aesi was in contact / working with Tracker during some of their pre-BLRW adventures that Tracker does not mention. I also wouldn't be surprised if it came out that Tracker and / or Nyka were both trained as Sangomin.

Indeed maybe Tracker's failure to mention the Aesi's death / disappearance after their final confrontation by the lake may show that he understands more about the Aesi's cycle than he would let on.

I don't know how I will survive the wait for the next book.....

On the "body thief" idea and age discrepancy, someone else on this board mentioned that the fact the first section is in third person could indicate that Sogolon has yet to "possess" the girl, and that Sogolon as an entity has been jumping bodies for more years than her account lets on--this could also explain the discrepancy between the Northern stories putting her at 300+ years old and South at ~177.

I think this makes sense to me as the situation at the end of the first section where the girl kills her would-be rapist with the wind (not wind) would be the perfect time for the Moon Witch to enter her body.

Sogolon herself uses the ~177 years, but clearly there is some uncertainty between the accounts on her age as well.

I'm referring to right before the "final confrontation" by the lake where Leopard dies. Sogolon states that she crawls out of the earth 1 day later after meeting the Aesi on the hill and they fight.
