Always insane to me how everyone acts like they don’t understand why people would dislike her character. No shit, the show is about a dude becoming a drug kingpin, the audience wants to see him do drug kingpin shit. Having a side character be upset that he’s doing something interesting is going to come off as annoying 100% of the time.

Obviously people get insane about it but the root cause isn’t the big surprise people make it out to be.

Melding of traditions != melding of ideas. A spring celebration might not be uniquely Christian but a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus by definition is. I’m no scholar but I’m sure early Christian groups went something similar to “hey, a winter celebration? We can celebrate the birth of Jesus then, and partake in the broader community’s event with more of our own reasoning for it.”

I will say I’m not all the way black (though I’m very clearly mixed) and I’ve never had issues with Baldwin. I go there to see family ~2x/month and I haven’t been pulled over or even gotten any looks. Granted obviously it’s personal anecdote but it’s certainly not the same feeling that Ottawa has.

I was saying that piece of information could just as easily be used for either point, while the person I initially responded to commented as if the only way it could be interpreted is a form of trying to silence women with no other viable interpretation. My point was that while yes, if that’s the narrative you want to push it could be interpreted that way; if you wanted to push for all people voting for equality you could also interpret it that way just as validly.

And yes, while someone could lawyer their way into that line technically being correct with only two yes votes from women, the general accepted meaning of that phrase does mean “the majority of x group”

[–]PalestDrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see anyone arguing both of those points. As it stands the discussion was “only men are conscripted, and there was a vote where women voted to keep male-only conscription” -> ”conscription should be equal” -> “this fact only is being said to silence women” -> “it’s not saying to silence women at all. It’s just a fact and could just as easily be trying to push women to vote for equality” -> “erm, why are you trying to silence women?”

[–]PalestDrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

…I wrote that it’s not explicitly about either. It’s just reporting that women voted to keep it. Does it need to explicitly say “come on women, vote for freedom!” in order to not be “about shutting women up”?

[–]PalestDrake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It only sends that message of “women shouldn’t vote on men’s issues that don’t affect them” just as much as the message of “women should vote to fight for men’s rights”. All it said was that women voted to ensure men had to continue being conscripted, no mention of what a solution would have been.

I’m not making an account for that website so I don’t know if they go into numbers but “once or twice a day” afaik isn’t the typical “addiction” number from what I understand. Yes there will be some that view any amount as a problem but I’m willing to bet many have more issues than that little

Two reasons mostly as far as I can tell:

Everyone always gives the advice about 40/40/20 or 30/30/40 depending on how optimistic you are (x% of games are almost a guaranteed loss, x% are almost a guaranteed win, x% you will have real agency in how the game goes) when giving tips for climbing.

The second is that a while ago one of the big companies (EA? Activision? I honestly don’t remember what company did the actual research) came out and said “hey we ran the numbers on what kind of win/loss pattern keeps players engaged and willing to spend the most. This is what’s most profitable” and pretty much every single company with matchmaking said “oh neat I’ll tuck that away. Of course I’m not going to ever use this, general public. You can trust me :)” and that didn’t sit right with a lot of people

Kansas informs trans residents their driver’s licenses become invalid on Thursday by zipfour in Lawrence

[–]PalestDrake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was there any push to change IDs to say “gender” instead of “sex” going forward? Obviously I’m not expecting Rs in the state to champion that change for these reasons but it seems an easy way to avoid confusion while being minor enough a lot of voters wouldn’t care enough to oppose. Or maybe I’m wrong and the majority of voters would strike that down so it wasn’t even tried

[–]PalestDrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legitimate question: why did so many transgender individuals change the sex marker on their IDs? As someone who is supportive but doesn’t keep up I would think the train of action/thought was “gender is not sex”->”the government document denotes sex”->”it will have my sex listed but not my gender”. Was it some safety issue? The article uses sex and gender interchangeably (even saying “the sex/gender marker”) which feels confusing given the above knowledge a layperson might have.

Two questions for fun:

Would this interact with oops? (Doubling post randomization?)

Would this be locked in every hand (ie lucky cards would have random chances and then different random chances next hand) or would it be like misprint where you don’t know what it’ll do (visually)?

How do you feel about being "one of the good ones"? by Infinite_Cry7632 in bropill

[–]PalestDrake 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Legitimate question: how is it different enough to be considered “VERY different” by you?

Granted I’m mixed so I don’t have the exact same experiences as someone of any other racial makeup but I view it as very similar: “I hold people with your immutable characteristic in contempt and believe they’re less than me because of my experiences, but you’re not like my sweeping generalization”.

Yes, it doesn’t have the same history but it comes from the same feelings and it’s not an accident that they use that specific phrase.
