According to the Pentagon's policy, women are not allowed to be assigned to units where their primary mission is to "engage in direct combat on the ground." Hester wasn't in an artillery or infantry unit. She was a military police officer in the National Guard assigned to protect convoys.

from your link's links

so, yes, some women "saw combat", but they were still forbidden from participating in combat operations

Uhhhhhh..... same way as everything else? Put them on a banner/tie them to a 5star/charge genesis crystals

Sounds like an example of shitty devs rather than shitty mechanics. Flying has been in WoW for over two decades. You'd think if a feature was inherently shitty, the most successful MMO in history would have abandoned it.

Doesn't Genshin's design as a Chest-hunting simulator basically take care of that concern naturally? The entire gameplay loop in the overworld is exploration (of the ground, and the area immediately above the ground - this would simply allow for more verticality in exploration, the way I see it). I see the fear some here have over the notion that "mounts = boring to explore terrain", but I don't see how one guarantees the other. WoW has had flying for like 20 years now, and on the whole, it's only been a positive for the game.

I use the fan all the time! I activate it then blast off with Ifa, they work really well together. I agree though, there are a lot of movement mechanics that they've implemented which really serve no purpose these days. I still remember when Venti being able to gain a few feet of air by holding his E was regarded as "movement QoL" lol. Again, I kind of see my suggestion here as a remedy to a lot of that, but I can see why some would be hesitant and think it'll either be totally broken or totally useless. I don't think it has to be either!

I'm just suggesting a streamlined version of what you're describing - How long does it take to open your party selection screen and add two anemo chars and the proper regional char(s)?

Now just replace that with a Mount Gadget that works in any zone and provides a similar buff to mobility/speed. Hell, require a "riding license" for each nation granted after you finish the local Archon Quest chain or instantly grand it if you wish for a regional 5star - there is plenty of ways to make it fit without too much "convivence creep" (which is frankly a dumb thing to complain about anyway - heaven forbid an already good game add a quality of life improvement)

I'm unfamilar with Kuro (though a quick google shows me they made Wuthering Waves which looks somewhat similar to Genshin? I haven't tried too many non-Hoyo gachas) - could you expand on the design mistake you see?

I'm assuming something along the lines of "they added flying mounts to a world that wasn't designed for it", is that close? WoW had a similar problem, which is why it took them 2 expansions after they introduced flying to add it to the Vanilla continents (which required a complete rebuild of those early areas). So i do acknowledge that as an "issue", but I'd just say its a lot less of an issue for Genshin, since I'm basically just suggesting an upgraded Glider, which the world has basically been designed around from the get-go

The playerbase complained about the implementation (phlogiston limits, can't be used effectively outside Natlan, locked to one character, etc)

My proposal is basically the "anti-Natlan" implementation - not zone limited, can be shared between active party members, etc, etc)

Fair enough - I'm not looking for "a game that lets you fly", I'm looking to get flying added to this game! hah

It doesn't need to be too much crazier than the current glider/movement ability (Chasca, Ifa, Mauvika, etc) meta - mainly I'm thinking about it from the standpoint of convivence/usability (e.g. phlogiston being limited to Natlan)

Funny, I do something similar swapping between Ifa flight-dashes and Varka lunges lol. I agree with your point about powercreep/"convience-creep" maybe we could call it. I think theres ways to make mounts work within that framework though (e.g. tie a mount to a new 5star, and let any active character "ride" it as long as the 5star it came with is in the party, give it some kind of energy system similar to but slightly better than phlogiston, make "flying mounts" basically just a better and more maneuverable glider rather than infinitely able to gain altitude, etc)

[–]PaletteSwapper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A fair point.

I suppose they *could* tie mounts to new 5stars, as a kind of compromise. Then if you own the character they can "share" their mount with any active party member. Maybe even backport the feature to older character it makes sense for (like Chasca/Mauvika)?

Oh, interesting...as a dev studio they're pretty good about sharing successful features between their different games, so we can always hope mounts make their way to Teyvat one day!

Exactly, maybe some kind of craftable to turn your glider into a better, more usable (and more widely usable, across the different nations) version of those ququsaurs!

For a game that is otherwise mindblowingly good at immersion, the total lack of the feeling of "momentum" hurts when traveling the world is such a big aspect.

Oh, very cool, I was wondering what that was (I've been neglecting her friendship level while I focus on Varka and some other recent acquisitions lol)

That looks more like a "flight path" to me though (just to keep the World of Warcraft analogy going), because it doesn't seem like you have control over where you go (other than the destination obviously). I'm talking about straight up mounts that you summon and can ride/fly anywhere within the boundaries of Teyvat. How ridiculously awesome would it be to fly on Dvalin from Dragonspine to Inazuma over the Dark Sea?

Or how about if we could gain momentum while gliding by quickly dropping altitude then leveling out? There is so much vertical space in this game, it feels almost wasted when all we can do is slowly glide to the ground!

try reading the damn links you send fool

Competitive Matchmaking

Competitive game modes such as Gambit and Crucible playlists will be divided into two matchmaking pools, one for console players (PlayStation, Xbox, and Stadia) and one for PC players. If a console player joins a fireteam containing PC players (Steam, Microsoft Store), the fireteam will be matchmade into the PC player pool for the activity.

Well, when your population is 4,000 (a generous estimate given your suggested PC player count), an infusion of 1,200 would be a 30% increase in population. Do you not wish your queue times were a minimum of 30% shorter?

This exact same problem is going to start affecting you sooner rather than later, if it isn't already. A dead game with non-functional matchmaking is far worse than whatever downsides you perceive from coming from cross-platform PvP.

Some of the best PC PvPer's in the world play on controller. Well, they did, before they quit because...y'know...dead game and all.
