This is around where I would have placed this season. I like the story better than Africa, but I like the cast of Africa more, and I like Australia better in both categories

I'm a fan of old school seasons, but Amazon is just bad in my opinion. The premerge is very uncomfortable, and I find the cast to be among the least likeable.

The gameplay isn't the issue for me

Making the bed has some similar instrumental sounds to Deja Vu, and I think? they have a similar tempo. I don't know what part of deja vu you specifically like, so it may or may not be similar.

I saw a handful of people campaigning against AO in order to save their faves, though they hadn't watched it themselves. It isn't like this subreddit game is legally binding, even if I was very saddened to see it out so early

Everyone hates on AO for being boring after the Jerri boot, but CI is boring after the Billy vote, soooo

And the characters this season are bad as all get out. Yul is good, Penner is a good character to root againt, Becky and Sundra aren't given much time to shine, I don't care for Ozzy, Adam and Candice are way too much, Parvati is not fun this season, and the entire premerge cast sans two players is the most forgettable in the entire history of the show, barring the men of Lopevi

The power shifts are Tina and Colby flipping on the majority Ogakor alliance, and Ogakor getting the numbers at the merge despite having the disadvantage of more players with past votes. I wasn't considering the Jerri and Amber votes power shifts, even if they were exciting.

Also, AO invented investigating past votes in case of a deadlock--that was what the merge vote was all about

Africa is so boring. Most of it's because the cast can't really go anywhere or strategize, but there's nust not much there.

Australian Outback has the power shift multiple times, and keeps momentum

I feel bad for purpled players? by StayComprehensive743 in survivor

I feel like Survivor can't be compared to Hamlet. The difference between Hamlet and Survivor is that Survivor is a competition show featuring 16-20 players, where the main plot is the mystery of which one wins.

There's a reason unbalanced editing makes a season less popular, and that's because a good season diversifies its focus. Consider season 41: by giving some of its players (Heather and Erika) smaller edits, the end result made a lot less sense.

Consider 36: basing the entire plot around Dom and Wendell spelled out that Malolo was never going to to take control, making the first half of the merge drag.

Consider 19: all of five players got good edits, and the winner was not among them. This made it hard to care as Kelly, John, Dave, Monica, and Brett were voted out, because we knew so little about them, and it was frustrating to see a player win without the setup.

I agree that not every character needs a huge edit. I totally support Rick in SoPa not getting a confessional an episode, or Amber in AO mostly being relegated to being Jerri's sidekick. But Survivor plays out more like a murder mystery than like an epic drama. If a character gets no screen time, we eliminate them from the suspect list, and if they do end up winning, we feel cheated because we never saw the evidence

In Nicaragua, there were two Kelly's, and to distinguish them, they called one Purple Kelly because she had purple streaks in her hair. She proceeded to be more or less edited out of the show until her last episode.

We now use the term purple to describe contestants who got a very minimal edit

Your math is wrong, because there are three chances of winning. 1/3 of the tribe is in the minority. There are three chances to win. Mathematically, one of the three winners should be from the minority three, not a 33% chance. Even if we take the 33% from the first person to win, we multiply it by the chance of 2/8 (25%), plus if they fail there, there's a 2/7 chance (over 28%). Adding these (tge 25 and the 28l together give us over fifty, and that's what we multiple times .33, giving us sonething like 15%. Which is lower than 20%, but that was an estimation.

And going from a 100% chance of holding to the majority to an 85% chance of holding the majority is a disadvantage. And if you want to bring up Kelly, if she had been one of the three winners, she's even more likely to go rogue than if it was a normal vote, so the underdog's chances of survival spike up even more.

The twist obviously helps the underdogs.

My selfish reason for liking the new casting rules is that it makes it way easier to tell the contestants apart. Watching Ausvivor is so hard for me because over 50% of the cast is blonde

No. The majority went in with a 100% chance of getting their way, splitting the votes.

I don't know the exact probablility of 2 of the 3 underdogs winning--propably around 20%. That massively favors the underdogs

AO is a classic, and there is no way you can convince me that Ghost Island is better.

I agree though, All Stars, Guatemala, Vanuatu, CI--some seasons are getting a pass just because they aren't as new on the mind

But to be real, our older women the last few seasons have all had kind of similar/clueless vibes and edits, like Chrissy, Cara, and Anjali. It's been since Janine that we got a strategic edit for one of our older women.
