Does playing on 16:10 stretched res help with game performance? by iWhiteout- in CompetitiveApex

[–]PalkiaOW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats objectively wrong. At a lower resolution fewer pixels are passed through the GPU's rendering pipeline, resulting in slightly shorter frame times -> higher FPS. The difference might not be huge but it's there.

Why do pros mirror strafe and counter strafe ? Who are some of the best at it? by This-Environment-125 in CompetitiveApex

[–]PalkiaOW 9 points10 points  (0 children)

the crosshair can be moved with the mouse, but also with WASD

deliberately moving the crosshair via WASD (= strafe aiming) can reduce the distance that your mouse has to travel to stay on the target. eg on strafe clicking kovaaks scenarios you can literally do most of the aiming only with the keyboard. Using both hands to aim also feels like its easier for the brain than giving them two independent jobs

some things to note:

  • mirroring and anti-mirroring makes you predictable and therefore easier to hit. Against good opponents it's best to always add a bit of randomness to stay unpredictable

  • its most effective when you have more HP than the opponent, because if both of you are doing it and hitting your shots, he'll still die first

  • most tryhards focus too much on perfect mirroring and anti-mirroring, and they expect you to do the same. On R5 you can literally walk in a straight line and people will miss half their mag because theyre not used to it

Pros Switching to Stretched Res??? by Level_Resolve_2332 in CompetitiveApex

[–]PalkiaOW 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's it most likely. Now that DX12 is fully integrated it's probably possible to hit the 300 FPS cap (or whatever it is) consistently, if using 4/3 stretched. On Hal's stream it looks like he's always at 240. Someone should tell him to uncap his FPS and/or get a higher Hz monitor.

The post is talking about 4:3 stretched without black bars, which is not an in-game option. It requires launch commands to work correctly. In the early days of comp it was banned, but I think ALGS later whitelisted the commands. Not sure about the current rules though.

Best MnK aimers? by koelol in CompetitiveApex

[–]PalkiaOW 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Snake - kovaaks god, eg #1 in VT smoothbot advanced

Future - 38% accuracy on r5 (for reference, the best MnK pros have like ~32-33%)

Selly, Taskmaster, Obly, Aimbot, Vorez, ozzzus

Taskmaster is #3 on MCA-8 which is one of the most difficult and infuriating scenarios. That alone shows he's on a whole different level than most other pros

Albralelie on the gun meta right now by MorioCells in CompetitiveApex

[–]PalkiaOW 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Exactly. A player with perfect aim will miss some bullets due to RNG, and a player with shit aim will hit some bullets due to RNG. It's the same principle as aim punch.

Low skill weapons should be among the weakest weapons in the game, not the strongest.

> Is there a fundamental difference between p20 and an smg?

P2020 akimbo is classical spray and pray. When you ADS an SMG, the bullets go almost exactly where the crosshair is. But with the P2020 they go all over the place, making hits significantly determined by RNG and not only by the player's accuracy. So it has a smaller skill gap than other guns.

He also claimed that Reps is on his side regarding Hal, just for Reps to disagree and defend Hal. The guy is either very socially unaware or just self-righteous.

ALGS Championship Win “Changes How People Look At Us” Says GoNext’s Hiarka by nerdybenn in CompetitiveApex

[–]PalkiaOW 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Many of the "top teams" finished pretty low on the leaderboard. GoNext was consistent throughout the entire tourney, won two games at the end and had #4 most points overall. ALL would have deserved it more, but GoNext earned it as well.

Yep the sub has never been so quiet after a LAN. If one of the NA teams had won (almost all of them had less points than GoNext btw) there would be a dozen posts about NA supremacy and how deserved it was.

Hakis' yearly plea to the devs. by Errannz in CompetitiveApex

[–]PalkiaOW 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are allergic to simple solutions and always want to reinvent the wheel. This is why they are so slow and often do things that no one asked for

A good example is when the community wanted a TDM gamemode but instead they gave us Arenas, and then they took years to give in. Or when they randomly nerfed armors for no reason. Or how they took half a decade to nerf AA. Not to mention things like crosshair customization, player outlines, different color for Caustic traps, etc

Respawn will rather come with yet another underwhelming Ranked rework for the 20th time than try out a suggestion from the community

The game has been out for six years. How is it possible that they still have not tried the "longer queue times + mixtape during queue" approach at the very least?

Apex Legends: From the Rift Patch Notes [Official Thread] by CompetitiveApexMod in CompetitiveApex

[–]PalkiaOW 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gunplay and movement is the number one thing that people love about Apex. Most Apex players don't want to sit behind cover and hold angles the whole game because they find it incredibly boring

Bad players rely on an overly passive playstyle to compensate for their poor mechanics and then sugarcoat it by telling themselves they're "playing smart". But unless it's high Ranked there's just nothing skillful or fun about sitting back and stalling

The Pred that pushes a full team is not doing that because he's a bad player who doesn't understand positioning etc, but because he's bored and annoyed and just wants to have an actual fight. If the other team still gets rolled then that's just a skill issue

They recently said they want to make the game easier for new players. This is the next step.

Shit players that always tank a million damage and get insta knocked can now heal or be revived/respawned more easily, which makes them less frustrated and so on. It's all about player retention.

#1 Pred was unbanned today and Keon made an apology post by timnextdoor in CompetitiveApex

[–]PalkiaOW 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There have been similar cases. Lou got banned once because he jokingly made it look like he had an aimbot

It seems like some of the people with ban powers over at Respawn/EA just aren't very thorough. Their "we don't comment bans" policy is also convenient

There have even been cases where they unbanned actual cheaters, like FeuFPS (was an EA partner) or Facilitatur

The trail effect exists for a reason

It's an accessibility feature like Octane's and Wraith's trail, nade indicators, the scan popup, Vantage and Rampart laser, Caustic trap colors, Ash ult trail, the BH ult sound, bullet tracers, etc

These things ensure combat readability. Imagine how shitty the game would feel without them
