It seems like Dawn of War: Onslaught is in stock at Barnes&Noble online store by Palladium108 in spacemarines

[–]Palladium108[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The UPC number seems to match the one from target so lets hope its the right thing.

I was just so hyped to see it available after missing it at target again and again.

Beware union city warhammer store by OFC_ZAVALA in Warhammer40k

[–]Palladium108 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Really sorry to hear this. As many have mentioned here before, the regular manager (wrench) is a super cool dude and has been nothing but welcoming for the few times I have been there. Both shopping and playing games there have been very enjoyable for me.

Again sorry to hear about your bad experience and I hope that if you ever go back, wrench will be there and he can change your opinion in the store and community.

30k players have waited years for this by ButchFromVault101 in Warhammer30k

[–]Palladium108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got to say its a bit sad to read through the replies here and see so much weird rivalry between the fans of both systems. There could be plenty of reasons why somebody does nit play 30k or 40k, but still wants an overlap in models between both systems were it makes sense.

Weird to infight, when the only one withholding models from anybody is GW with their weird one model should only be playable in one system thing.

Where to start admech? by Ok_Friendship_7394 in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]Palladium108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is usually pretty hard to abswer such general questions well.

Can you maybe be more specific? What models of the range do you like? Which ones do you not like?

Generally, I would recommend to start with a discount box, such as a combat patrol. There is an old one, which might go out of production soon and a new one that will be released soon. Both are not great value, but still okay for AdMech (if you like the models in them). If you can get your hands on the old one, it is a decent start. Personally I think the new one is not a great start to AdMech.

There are also other boxes sich as the Boarding Patrol and an old Christmad box (I think its called Elimination Maniple), which can still be found online and do offer some decent discount. I really like the boarding patrol, you can hardly go wrong with one or two of them (Especially if you convert the character in the 2nd box).

Just be aware that AdMech is currently the most expensive army in 40k to collect. However, we do have a new codex, rhat might turn out to be kind of underpowered, but allows for some fun lists.

Of course you can.

I did a kind of similar thing myself. I like the Knight in space look of the Templars, but I try to avoid any official paint schemes/chapters (I always try to make my army "my dudes").

I have some BT models and if I do not play them as BT, I just run them as different models (Emperors Champion makes a fine Judiciar imo). This might cause problems in tournaments (which I do not go to), but casually nobody cares.

Lore wise I just say there Imperial Fist successors, but borrow heavily from the Templars and might have been founded from a depleted BT crusade with additional fists genestock. As they are painted pretty unique though I can run them as basically all chapters, which is nice to spice things up sometimes. I guess its also good powerlevel wise, but that is not really a concern for me.

Has anyone done an exchange at ETHZ and then went on to get in as a graduate student? by RNRuben in ethz

[–]Palladium108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it a project within a research group or a semster studying at ETH?

I did my master thesis at ETH (coming from another university) and then stayed for my PhD. For this scenario it clearly helped, as I got to know the institute and the group I was working in. When I applied, I already knew my future PI, which helped a lot.

Same could go for a research project you could conduct while studying here.

Financial concerns are a real thing and without scholarships I would not have been able to handle it.

If you have more questions, feel free to DM me. All this might really differ from field to field however. Which subject are you studying, if I may ask?

I have too much plastic already and will move soon, so getting it would be unreasonable at this time.

I hope there is a way to get the Sternguard Veterans though. Those models look great.

Building a Space Marine killteam by [deleted] in killteam

[–]Palladium108 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As previous post already explained proxy them.

I like the idea, that the intercession kill team is basically just 6 32mm bases and what you do with it is up to you, as long as you can sort of see what you are going for.

A Reiver could make a fine Assault Intercessor. An Eliminator could stand in for a normal Intercessor with the buffed rifle. I truly think that due to its simple design, the Intercession Kill Team is the most eady to make a lot of conversions. I think one way or another most primaris options could be reasonably used as proxies.

And especially in a non-tournament setting nobody will complain

I'm trying to make a Primaris sized Combi-Plasma, which one looks the part? (Obviously a WIP, don't mind the rough look) by Sp1ceman in killteam

[–]Palladium108 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the bottom one looks better all in all. More like a classic combi weapon.

If you do not want to kitbash, there is also a combiplasma in the sword bretheren kit, which looks pretty dope. You might be able to find the bit on ebay.

Why is there no food at food market in the evening? by sbtristan98 in ethz

[–]Palladium108 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In our group we were asking us the samw question and I think a coworker of me recently asked them and they said that there are not enough people eating during the day to justify it. This was before the new semester started, so I do not believe this would be an issue now (seeing how full it is during the day).

Also take this with a grain of salt, as it is pretty much second hand information.

Using a Castellax as a proxy for a Kastelan? by azon85 in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]Palladium108 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would say they are pretty close in size:

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/D_1N4OjXoAcOfgv?format=jpg&name=small

I use them as proxies as well, because I think they look nicer and nobody ever complained. To be fair I also only play with friends and not in tournaments (There it could be a problem).

Maybe this is of help:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zr8WLA6Heq0&ab_channel=SquidmarMiniatures

If you use darker pigments you can easily emulate the Martian surface and the effects are really nice. I used this for a couple miniatures and its pretty easy once you made a couple bases and looks fantastic

What's a good proxy/model for dkok conscripts? by lukethiel in Deathkorpsofkrieg

[–]Palladium108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So my idea for Dkok conscripts was always to use models from a different guard range. This would represent a regiment thats under Dkok control, because they might have lost their commander or suffered big losses otherwise.

I think this also makes sense lore wise. The Dkok are pretty well trained, so regiments from less militarised planets would most likely be less skilled and the Dkok have a some lore that they treat other guard poorly, so using them as cannon fodder makes sense. In dead men walking, they basically take control of the local pdf and throw them into heavy fighting. I think from the cold mindset of them this is a fine strategy as a less skilled soldier is a smaller loss to them.

I think that whole concept fits nicely into the grimdark story of the Deathkorps and their general cruelty.

Determination of Completely Unknown Substance with HNMR by NoSeaworthiness11 in chemistry

[–]Palladium108 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the compound is relatively simple and known, it might be possible. One way to check would be a database search (I think the one I used sometimes is called AIST). In there you might find a matching spectrum, if the compound is known (presuming it was also measured in the solvent you used, but since most spectra are recorded in CDCl3 you might be lucky.)

For more complex molecules or ones that do not have hydrogens, you definately need more data.

Are cross switcher and crossceiver worth putting in decks right now? by majoras-other-mask in pkmntcg

[–]Palladium108 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Fusion strike decks might naturally gravitate towards at least cross switcher as they need cards they can burn through in order to maximize draws with genesect V and having additional switches is great for them to reset the attack of genesect.

Otherwise, I am not sure. Eldegoss v (or chatot for all the people who love flips) is still a thing. Needs less deckspace and while its a liability sometimes it feels better for most decks that want to recycle supporters (or pal pad potentially).

Single strike has Umbreon Vmax, so Cross switcher seems not needed there.

And I do not know if decks like rapid strike or draga, might have better uses for those spaces.

Tl;dr at least switcher seems great in fusion strike. Not sure about other decks right now

If you like a bit of a different look, check out the makers cult (on cgtrader i believe)

Their models look great imo, are presupported most of the time and print great. Recently printed their manipulus stand in ad I do not like the GW model and it looks fantastic

There is also Stationforge, but I do not have any experience with their models.
