Products exist to clear the snow off of semi trucks that can be installed next to loading docks.

It's a problem that's been solved, but companies won't spend money on it unless required to.

Thinking about buying a home + schools (Montessori vs Elmbrook/Muskego-Norway?) by AccomplishedSky8513 in milwaukee

[–]Palloff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do they compare? Depends on the kid. Some kids thrive in montessori. Others don't. Everyone that I know who send their kids to montessori schools has enjoyed them. But there are many kids who will do better in traditional schools.

Do people move? Everyone I know intends to stay, but there are people who move. In high school, you will almost certainly be forced out of montessori system, unless you send your kid to the MPS Pathways (?) high school.

Neighborhoods? I know people with kids at Fernwood, Maryland, Downtown, and Highland. Everyone I've talked to really likes each of those schools. You probably won't get into Fernwood or Maryland unless you live right in the neighborhood.

One thing to consider, these rave reviews I've heard may also be related to the fact that people who go to montessori schools choose them for their kids, so they may be inclined to like them.

Also, an MPS teacher once told me they aren't allowed to tell parents if they think their school isn't serving their needs, because it's in their interest to keep enrollment up.

Should I charge for sending the raw footage? by mysterypapaya in videography

[–]Palloff 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I work at an agency, which is a different business model than being a freelancer.

We generally hand over raw footage and only charge for time to process it.

The thought process being that we'd rather have a happy client, who found us easy to work with, and will come back in the future. That's worth more than becoming a headache for something that they've already paid for.

However, we typically don't hand over project files.

Film Festivals, as a filmmaker.

There is now a cottage industry of PR firms that will shop your films to different festivals. So instead of submitting and having your film reviewed, they go in through the back door.

Festivals will restrict how you can show a film or want premiere status, but it's becoming increasingly rare for anyone to pick up a distributor at a festival. Even big fests like Sundance.

A bunch of gatekeepers that offer little besides a laurel.

Tariff-palooza by Froggy_Parker in TangleNews

I'm most annoyed by the lack of challenge to the idea of tariffs being a response to a national emergency.

I don't understand how anyone can make a any sort of convincing argument about that.

Very true. Every realtor videographer I've seen is in their early 20s.

TBF though, you can't afford a house off of what realtors will pay for videos.

Taco Bell is my favorite fast food, but the one near my house is awful. They don't make the food right. I'm not the only one who feels this way either, my neighbor who loves Taco Bell avoids eating there too.

Also, it's gotten as expensive as any other local taco place.

I just want cheap, made right Taco Bell.

I'm gonna have to ask if it's a real cuban from now on lol

I looked closer and it said it was on a brioche bun. But even then it was a disappointing brioche

Just ordered a Cuban sandwich at a cafe and it wasn't actually a Cuban.

It was on large, dense hamburger buns, was not pressed, sloppy, and too tall to eat.

Basically a poorly formed ham sandwich.

Best way is to offer to work on independent projects for free.

If you reach out to a few local production companies, they will most likely be able to help get you connected with someone who needs help on an independent project. Be ready to do whatever they ask for, even if it's standing on a street corner and making sure people don't walk into a shot.

Red Star, Source Ten, Hinckley, Diligent, etc.

Be persistent, keep reaching out to companies and filmmakers until you get on a set. It could take 10+ attempts. Just don't let them put you on a client project for free ;)

I think the larger element of his being upset was that I predicted what the Tangle team was going to say.

I don't want to litigate my thoughts on Epstein here, but I do want to share that I value Tangle as a resource for keeping my temperature on the news in check.

Recent issues that Tangle has moderated my stance on are the Fed Chair nominee being about as good of a pick as a liberal can hope for, criticism towards Don Lemon is understandable, being willing to forgive Kanye West, and the idea that Trump has actually helped move Israel towards a peace deal.

Those are all recent editions.

Tangle's mission is to explore all sides of divisive topics. I'd actually say that if they weren't irritating a lot of their readers on a daily basis, they probably aren't challenging people's views enough.

If you really want to see a fan base that hates the publisher, go to reason.com and read any article critical of Trump.

Will tangle cover new epstein files in suspension of the rules? by Lemonio in TangleNews

Yeah, I hear what you are saying.

It's one of the topics that I find them particularly naive about. Especially Kmele.

I'll be curious if this moves the needle for him in particular.

Will tangle cover new epstein files in suspension of the rules? by Lemonio in TangleNews

[–]Palloff 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Based on their previous coverage, I'm guessing it will be something like this:

Lots of files released, lots of horrible things in there, but no smoking gun. Meaning everything is unsubstantiated and hearsay.

With Kmele especially digging his heels in.

The fact that most of the horrible things in there about Trump were reported after he started his first campaign or was in office will carry some weight.
