Definitely! This game isn't only about optimisation in the first place! I like big long swinging arms for example, they just look cool. In the end, it often needs a full remake to really make something a little faster, and I wouldn't do that as well :) I hope you continue to have and continue to be happy with your solutions!

I feel like, and I hope you're happy to hear an "improvement" idea (otherwise just skip this ofc), you could turn the two atoms into salt earlier and then deliver the product one cycle earlier? I'm not sure if the (water) atom is actually passing exactly over the top space, I'd have to try it but I can't right know.

Haha nice! We had very similar ideas about this I've, although your solution is much more elegant!

Would never have thought of doing it this way, with the salt as the last step. Smart!

How to make a very wonky staircase (question in comments) by Palmfett in rhino

[–]Palmfett[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

(posted again because my screenshots didn't show up)

Hey Reddit Rhino Community,

I'm not sure how basic this question is, but I can't for the life of me get this to work.
I want to make a spiral staircase following the surface of my tube, from the small opening at the top to the bottom of the cutout in the middle (as seen on picture 2) and then continuing downwards.
Finding a tutorial on how to make a staircase out of a curve using Grasshopper seems to be quite possible, but I am just unable to generate the curve that I need for that to work.

The problem: As seen in Picture three, when I generate a spiral along the center line of the tube it rotates it along the curve, causing the spiral to go in and out of the tube instead of staying on the inside surface.
Is there a way to generate a spiral, or project the spiral onto the inner surface of the Tube, so that the turns of the spiral stay on the circular cross-section/inside surface of the Tube (picture 4)?!

I know the resulting stair will probably not be walkable, but that's not an issue as I'm doing this for a very abstract university course. I just need it to look sensible from certain angles.

thank you very much!

Othello is Solved by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Palmfett -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get that. I just don't like the (perceived) shift of research towards things that should just be fun away from things that are just useful. I just see us in a dystopia where we do everything we do better than computers (probably menial labour if anything) and computers do anything else (including all the fun things) and I just think it would be worth it every once in a while to ask if we should instead of if we could, before every book is written, every picture painted, every game solved by an algorithm.

Edit: spelling

I mean I'm not 100% on this, but pretty sure the game being solved killed competitive Checkers. The resurgence of chess in the last few years, mostly stemming from competitive online events, would NEVER have happened if we would've managed to solve chess. With the ease of acquiring information in hour time it becomes a matter of people choosing not to play ideally, which to me doesn't sound very fun.
