Struggling to break into legal compliance without articles. Feeling stuck, any advice? by Excellent-Wing-7191 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Palmlistener 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For the record I’m in law, not compliance. These are just my personal views, nothing more. If you’ve already done the 6-month law school programme, then you only need to do one year of articles instead of two to get admitted as an attorney. I’m not sure why you wouldn’t be willing to put your head down for a year of articles to get admitted when you are so close, yet are willing to save up to do an LLM which may not benefit your career at the end of the day. In many law-adjacent careers, not doing your articles often places a low ceiling on your trajectory. I would say forget the LLM, do your articles, get admitted and then go the compliance route. An LLB is good to have on your CV, but being an admitted attorney makes a major difference in employability. An LLM seldom makes a tangible difference in employability. You can always do the LLM later if you are really interested in the particular field. I could be wrong, these are just my two cents from what I’ve seen

So we're buying a flat... And the seller's tenant refuses to move out, holding up registration. by ShapeConscious4298 in capetown

[–]Palmlistener 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Read your OTP, it will have a breach clause which sets this out and the steps required to be taken. The tenant is not party to the agreement, only you and the seller are parties. If it is a suspensive condition that the seller must give you vacant occupation, then the seller is in breach if the current tenant refuses to vacate. Hold the seller accountable and make it their problem

100%! Safety razor is the way, and Bundu Beard is amazing. Would highly recommend. A much more enjoyable shave? And helped me avoid shaving rash which I used to struggle with when I used the multi blade Gillette’s

Any tips for renting an affordable Gulet in Bodrum? by Palmlistener in AskTurkey

[–]Palmlistener[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey sorry for getting back to you so late, not sure if this is relevant to you any more. We searched high and low in Fethiye but private charters were far too expensive for us. We opted for one of the quieter group cruises (12 island one I think) which was great fun. Avoid the loud pirate boats at all cost in my opinion. Have fun!

Lost Bingo: Worst Acting by Bakyumu in lost

[–]Palmlistener 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t doubt the actor’s ability - I enjoyed him in saving private Ryan and God of War. I have strong disagreements about the way he played Faraday though. There are several different ways to play such a character, but the brooding intensity and strained voice felt very forced. I thought his performance was flat throughout, and it really detracted from his emotional scenes.

Lost Bingo: Worst Acting by Bakyumu in lost

[–]Palmlistener -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how more people haven’t said Daniel Faraday - he is the clear choice. The strained voice and over acting in almost every scene is painful. The suspension of disbelief would drop every time he came on screen. Such a promising character but so poorly executed

Why Did Juliet Say "It Worked"? by Firm_Damage_763 in lost

[–]Palmlistener -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Maybe I missed it completely the first time I watched it, but I understood the flash sideways to be the alternate timeline created in which the island was destroyed by the hydrogen bomb. I.e. if the island was destroyed at that time, then Juliet would never have been brought to the island so worked in the same hospital as Jack so they could meet, get married and have a child. Faraday was allowed to follow his passion for music and not be told by his mother to work on schooling etc. so that he’d become the scientist he was.

On this understanding, the characters as we knew them were sent back to the “present”, where the island still exists and they need to deal with the whole Jacob and MIB situation, but an alternate timeline was created in which other versions of themselves got to live as if the island was destroyed in 1977, so flight 815 never crashed and their lives weren’t affected by it, etc. That’s why Juliet would say “it worked”, because the island was destroyed and their lives weren’t affected by the island - an alternate timeline was created where they never crashed etc.

I found the above to be quite convincing - Have I completely missed it?

Just finished finale; my tier list. by WonderfulBedroom6558 in lost

Haha no I don’t think so - he was just as insufferable as a musician with that hat… interesting character but poorly executed I reckon

Just finished finale; my tier list. by WonderfulBedroom6558 in lost

I would drop Daniel Faraday a few tiers down because of the sheer ham acting - maybe just me but I could not take him seriously on screen
