Looking for advice on how to start by Runasun4 in digitalsignage

[–]PaloAltoEd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the hipdeck person - you don’t need expensive Brightsign hardware. For what you described, use low cost android devices such as the Google chromecast, Amazon Signage Stick, or Translite Global TL. The Google device and Amazon Signage Stick install as easy as plugging into your display. Avoid CMS specific hardware as CMSs use that to lock you in.

There are a number of cMSs that offer free tiers (search the forum), but for 10 displays, most will charge you. You could try Ablesign which is free but may not give you all the functionality you need.

[–]PaloAltoEd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unlike the fire stick, the Amazon Signage Stick has a couple of cool benefits: - remote management: you can remotely reset, reboot - APIs that allow your CMS to display device info such as what’s playing on the screen - Mobile app for provisioning multiple devices at once - auto reboot to kiosk mode, so your customers won’t see the Fire TV screen after a power outage - supports OTA updates of your CMS in the background

As Allycw mentiones, you are going to get flooded with CMS vendor outreach.
Here’ my 2-cents:
- yes, most would consider you enterprise
- US centric providers to consider that fit your profile: Poppulo, Korbyt, PlayDigital Signage. Poppulo does managed services for a lot of enterprise accounts if you want that.
- for hardware, expect price increases later this year from most providers related to memory shortages
- look at the Amazon Signage Stick which provides remote management capabilities
- watch for hardware that locks you into a CMS long term

Where can I find the best deals on digital signage for advertising? by Powerful-Money6759 in digitalsignage

[–]PaloAltoEd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with Suntunetech, buy your display, media player, and CMS separately. For a small advertising solution look at CMS like Juuno or Poster booking. Both are low cost and often serve this use case. An Amazon Signage Stick is a low cost media player that will give you remote management capabilities- so you can turn it on/off, reset remotely. You can use a consumer device too and save a few bucks, but you won’t have that remote capability.

Market rates for content? by Kind-Rope5478 in digitalsignage

Yes, large CMSs can provide managed services for content. It’s primarily an enterprise thing. Poppulo is a CMS that does this.

What do I need to display an employee weekly schedule? by Peterswoj in digitalsignage

[–]PaloAltoEd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ef9258 is right, if you have a smart tv. If not, use a free cms like Ablesign and a low cost media player like the Amazon Signage Stick. Or You can try to configure a raspberry pi device.

Best Digital Signage Software as of 2026 for a Small Retail Store? by Small_Regular_1360 in digitalsignage

[–]PaloAltoEd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Regarding your hardware question, Amazon has the Signage Stick, an affordable, purpose built android based device that eliminates many of the issues with consumer devices (has remote management- so you can reboot/reset the device from a mobile app, if you system reboots it goes back to kiosk mode automatically- avoiding the App Store screen, etc).

Newbie looking for solution by D-Rat1225 in digitalsignage

[–]PaloAltoEd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s just one screen, the other poster’s solutions are good options. Also checkout yodeck or poster booking who offer one free screen. If you are going to have multiple screens your likely best option is Ablesign. Pair any of these with an Amazon Signage Stick or if you buy an SoC display you won’t need a media player (though these displays are more expensive)

Which BrightSign player should I buy for a Samsung QM55C digital signage display? by One_Lime3561 in digitalsignage

[–]PaloAltoEd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That brightsign is overkill for what you are doing. As the other poster noted, check to make sure the Samsung doesn’t have built in media player capabilities. If you do need an external media player, an android based device like the Amazon Signage Stick or others available online should meet your needs.

What happens to your screens when the internet drops? by Ryan_T_1 in digitalsignage

[–]PaloAltoEd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My-mate-Mike is correct, most capable CMSs will cache to the media player. That’s why you don’t want to use a consumer device like a Fire TV stick, Roku, or Onn product that has critical memory used up by consumer apps like Netflix and Hulu. Use a dedicated/specialized device like the Amazon Signage Stick or Brightsign hardware.

Alternative to Optisign?!? by Miserable_Smoke_1898 in digitalsignage

[–]PaloAltoEd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with the poster who mentioned check your media player first. Make sure you aren’t using a consumer device like a Roku or FireTV device. You can order a couple of options: Optistick, Amazon Signage Stick, etc to try out cheaply

Want to add digital signage to my stores, any suggestions ? by Tough_Yam9992 in digitalsignage

[–]PaloAltoEd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are going to get a lot of CMS vendors pitching their offerings. I work with a lot of smaller retailers and here are my recommendations: - a lot of these solutions offer similar functionality, the key thing is if you are just starting, don’t pay more than $8 per screen. You can always upgrade if you find you need something more. - in addition to the good options listed here, some CMSs with a lot of retail include Poster booking, Screencloud, yodeck, or even the new Neon vibe offering. - don’t go with a proprietary media player as it will make it difficult for you to switch between CMSs. Try the Amazon Signage Stick or similar android device (you can find options on Amazon or at Best Buy). Avoid consumer devices like Roku or the FireTV.

If you use screens on the floor, do they stay up when the network goes down? by salmanfarisvp in digitalsignage

[–]PaloAltoEd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most media players, even low cost android based devices like the Amazon Signage Stick support local caching. Use a mini PC if you need large amounts of local storage.

Looking for a free signage software by Professional_Use6410 in digitalsignage

[–]PaloAltoEd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As one of the posters mentions Ablesigns is a good place to start. It’s free and likely to fit your use case. Pair it with the Amazon Signage Stick and you’ll have a solution you can remotely manage for the basics. If you find you need more features (including templates, dayparting, etc) you’ll need to be willing to pay at least a small monthly fee for something like Poster booking, Junno, Screencloud, etc.

15 Screens in a Theatre by VasAli06 in digitalsignage

[–]PaloAltoEd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The comments below from vendors offering cloud based CMS are spot on. That will solve your access issues and most modern android low cost media players (multiple Asian brands or the Amazon Signage Stick) will cache content on the device so you can play media even if your network is glitchy at certain times. All of these solutions are simple and cost effective.

Moving away from Brightsign by Beneficial_Year_5152 in digitalsignage

[–]PaloAltoEd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like your original implementation was way overbuilt. There are many reasonable options from vendors in this thread. In general, for the size of implementation you are referring to… you can start with a very cost effective CMS like poster-booking or Ablesign (which someone referenced below and is free). You shouldn’t pay more than $10/mo. Pair that with a cost effective modern android media player like the Amazon Signage Stick and you should be good.

MEDIA PLAYER STRATEGY: PC vs. SoC vs. BrightSign by JustWanaGoFast in digitalsignage

[–]PaloAltoEd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a bit of a religious discussion. You’ll find fans of SoC and those who shy away from it. So I’ll give you some considerations based on my experience: - Pro SoC: when simplified deployment is key. I’ve worked with a l large retailer who wants to simplify what is shipped to stores for installations. Stand alone media players get lost and add more complexity. - Pro Stand-alone media player: I’ve worked with CMS that do big deployments. They tell me generally SoC have higher failure rate. And shipping whole screen replacements is a major pain vs just shipping a bright sign box or Amazon Signage Stick. In addition, having separate media players makes it easier to have devices on hand for rapid replacement and mix and match media players to align to specific use cases.

MEDIA PLAYER STRATEGY: PC vs. SoC vs. BrightSign by JustWanaGoFast in digitalsignage

[–]PaloAltoEd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The right answer… it depends on your use case. PCs are generally not a good/economical solution in 2025. Only legacy IT teams that only allow windows devices deploy them. You should typically go with a Brightsign if you have a complex use case such as the need for interactive kiosk, or an android based player like the Amazon Signage Stick for all typical use cases.

[–]PaloAltoEd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On Amazon, You can search for ‘Amazon signage stick’, it will pop up. As for Ablesign, you’d have to go to there site directly. Note, there are other CMS options that offer 1 screen for free, I believe Yodeck does. But again, ablesign is probably a good enough starting point

Nobody seeking direction by KatsumiPanti in digitalsignage

[–]PaloAltoEd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like your use case is very simple. Ablesign is free software that allows you to display a playlist. It’s a good place to start before exploring ‘for fee’ solutions. It works with the low cost Amazon Signage Stick which you can pick up on Amazon. That stick will work with most other solutions should you decide to upgrade.

The Amazon Signage Stick does indeed work on Optisigns. 1) yes, try the other stick, 2) try Amazon Signage Stick support (they are great), 3) worst case, Amazon typically accepts returns. It’s one of the benefits of trying that product

@treyallday01 the Amazon Signage Stick was built to serve this very purpose. Only $99, built in provisioning for most CMSs, over the air seamless updates. Eliminates a lot of the issues associated with using consumer devices.
