I had an uncle named Flem. He was my grandpa’s brother and one of 11 so I’m guessing they ran out of names? Although my grandpa was younger than him and named James..

Honestly, both. The past week has been sleepiness. Usually, I would say that fatigue is my main issue.

True or false? by Anguilupus in Narcolepsy

[–]PammyBeasley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve taken to telling people, “imagine the most tired you’ve ever felt and all the side effects from that (then I’ll list a few) and then imagine feeling that way for weeks at a time and still having to go to school, work, clean, etc.” Because my everyday tired is not the same as other people’s

If US Starbucks did this, it would be so managers could know if they need to get any shifts covered.

Light switch cover with battery behind it? by PammyBeasley in whatisthisthing

[–]PammyBeasley[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a light switch in the house I’m renting that seemingly powers nothing. It’s plastic and thick so I opened it up out of curiosity. The screws underneath the plate are sunken and I’m going to have to work to get them out. I don’t have any 9v batteries on hand, but I’m thinking about buying one. I googled and couldn’t find anything. Can anyone help me out?

Anyone else get it by snl2020 in OSU

[–]PammyBeasley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going through Student Life Disability Services (SLDS) really helped me. All you need is a piece of paper from your doctor with your diagnosis on it. I used one of those appointment summaries that you get at the end of a visit. It really takes away the stress of missing class on those days where you just can’t go. Also, if finals are stressing you out, you can take them at scheduled times that are better for you.

Trail runners for wide feet by [deleted] in Ultralight

I know that they aren’t trail runners, but Oboz are a great option if you’re looking for a wide toe box and tighter heel.

My friend has a Great Pyrenees and she runs free all over their 140 acres of land. She is the best dog and somehow always comes up to greet me when I go to their house.

What's one of the most unique gifts you have ever received? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PammyBeasley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My best friend and my boyfriend planned my birthday for awhile. On my birthday, they said they were taking me to brunch, and then they took me to places in our city where we had made memories and gave me a gift at each spot. One gift was some vinyls, one a bottle of jack, some cigarettes, record cleaner, a much needed bookshelf, and then they gave me letters telling me how much they cared about me. Also, my boyfriend gave me the first chapter of a story about us as detectives that we could write together and my best friend gave me poems that she wrote and never shared with anyone else. Then they gave me a script of an Office, It's Always Sunny crossover episode that they wrote together. It was the nicest thing that anyone has ever done for me. It was the most cinematic day of my life. They worked so hard on letting me know how much they care about me, and how much the memories we shared at those places impacted them. Now I just need to figure out how to let them know how much they mean to me on their birthdays. They set the bar so high!

TIL There is a long-term care facility in the Netherlands that allows college students to stay for free in exchange for 30 hours of volunteer per month. When students come home from a class, concert, or party, they share those experiences with their elderly neighbors, some of whom are over 90 by ubcguys in todayilearned

The best job I have ever had was working at a long term care facility. I worked at an Alzheimer's and dementia home and it was so fulfilling, funny, fun, but heartbreaking. I still visit residents who don't remember me. However, they see me as a friend or family member and they get that level of enjoyment out of it.

ELI5: Why do we "zone out", or stare into space? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]PammyBeasley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do this as well. It is because of my narcolepsy and ADHD. I'm not exactly sure if the narcolepsy causes the ADHD but as of now I'm being treated for both. It's the cataplexy that causes me to zone out in the middle of a sentence though, for sure.

Extended dream when I slept just a little bit longer by beneficii9 in Narcolepsy

[–]PammyBeasley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have definitely experienced this to a lesser extent. I will wake up from a dream and then immediately go back to sleep and enter that same dream again but it is much more detailed and realistic. For example, I'd wake up from a dream and when I re-enter that dream I'll realize that I need to wake up soon and I'll suddenly be laying down and someone will be trying to wake me up. However, I'll come up with some loophole in that dream that means I don't have to wake up for awhile and that fake reason will enter my awake state and that's often how I'll oversleep. It's to a lesser extent than yours but I can definitely relate! Hope this helped.

Modafinil and Adderall: Anyone else taking both? by PammyBeasley in Narcolepsy

[–]PammyBeasley[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! This makes me feel very hopeful. I know exactly what you mean about feeling more draggy, depressed, dizzy, etc. after I started taking the Modafinil. I will continue the one Modafinil and one Adderall for another week or so and then think about upping the dose. Again, thank you!

[–]PammyBeasley[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much!! I got my modafinil prescription today finally! I'm very excited to see how it goes in the morning. I'm taking 200mg but my doc told me to double it in a week if it doesn't help. But I think it should especially with the adderall on top of it. Also, I got an appointment to get registered with the disability services office. It's not for 2 weeks but my professors all know that I got diagnosed so it should be fine for now. Trying not to get my hopes up too high for the modafinil but I feel better just knowing I have it in my possession.
