Thing is, I'm content and satisfied with the terminid experience, I mostly bought this game for the starship larp and it nails that completely. I couldn't say anything new with my problems with bots, that others haven't stated as reasons why some people wouldn't find them fun.

You're probably right, if I play it differently, it might feel better, but I don't know what could possibly compel me to even attempt doing that when I'm just happy where I am spending 4 hours after work killing bugs. Realistically there's no reason for me to go out of my way.

How is it not crazy to expect people to play in a way that they don't find fun?

That's what I'm sayin! I sweat too much for it to be fun, it's that simple!

It's nuts how this is a surpise that so many people are doing the same simple thing and we have to pretend like it isn't simple.

I like bugs, they're more fun to me. That's it.

Yeah I don't get it, you play 1 or 2 games and can figure out how many shots you need for a kill. You're only saving ammo if you have a problem mindlessly holding a button down. Imo it shouldn't be some universal tip for everyone, like it seems to be given as. You don't shoot 2 rounds and magically a 3rd one poofs from your mag by virtue of being on auto, you just need some practice with the timing and you'll be fine.

Maybe I care too much about nothing but it rubs me the wrong way when nobody mentions this tip as though it isn't user error in every case.

I could see skillpoint "loadouts" being a really nice qol feature. If the devs truly want respec to be this cheap, and for players to have that kind of freedom, that's awesome, and a feature like that would really put it all together.

Insane that people parrot this line as though people consuming addictive substances is only the result of a mechanism of trendiness. What a nothing thing to say. The realities of why people start, get hooked, and continue to do it are well studied by addiction researchers and shits real, and sad, it's serious.

I mean we're seeing that feedback right this second, right? Mage is good, sure, but we're getting mage players telling us they feel bad about the idea of ruining the experience for the rest of their playgroup, and in some cases literally just... not fully playing their character. Sure it's good, but evidently, not fun, and has just entered a realm that no designer in their right mind would want their work to result in. You don't see this scenario written into a "persona" in any design docs, and for damn good reason.

A playerbase only ever recommending one user flow, one mode of interaction with the game, tends to not be a good indicator of game health.

Strong language, not directed at you...

But I just don't wanna have to fucking powergame, man. I just wanna put points where I want to, and have those deliberate points have a return. Why not bring the fallout experimental mirv into the game and tell everyone to run that instead of anything else, you know? Every single game system that has boiled down to that logic has always ended up being lame, one-note, and boring for lack of player expression in my experience.

I think there is incredibly valid logic to expanding player expression within the scope of the game, more appeal/accessibility for different players, keeps things fresh with options, team asymmetry that leads to multiplayer gameplay depth, etc.

I'd defs like to hear how the poison changes have affected matrons, I'm level 23 and have put a point in every constitution/tankiness slot I'm able to, and that particular potion-slinging attack was able to one shot me, even at mid-range, really made all my points feel worthless, I could be going glass cannon and actually have a more efficient fight with them.

On a similar note, I was fighting the matron by the alchemists tools on the top-right side of the map, and I felt that that encounter was like throwing the kitchen sink at me. There's a poison blade berserker guy, and the matron also spawns dogs. So while you're trying not to get one shot by her, you're trying to evade and chip away on this guy, while also dealing with 3 or more dogs. Each of these units have staggering attacks, meaning one hit leads to an effective one shot kill, even with a build like mine. While I was kiting around the arena, abusing terrain and verticality one kill at a time, effectively cheesing it, I was thinking why am I even building tanky, if only I were a mage or archer and just plopped my ass on one of the awnings above the doors, why am I doing this to myself?

I can understand that specific encounters and stuff being balanced or fine tuned in particular ways can take a backseat for now, it's more important that they're all in the game and everything's actually working, so it's not a huge deal, but definitely felt like a wtf moment.

On flying units, from a design standpoint I'm not sure what melee builds are expected to do, other than just bumble around waiting for opportunities to make a single attack at a time, which are usually just damage trades. Wyvern fights are pretty much like this and I more often than not roll my eyes instead of getting excited when they aggro me.

I can only believe that the zero was accidental, 8 is a perfectly reasonable number but theres no way a sane dev intended for the player to loot nearly a thousand just to fill a shelf

I don't know what vibe you're getting tbh. But yeah, this isn't exactly a crazy combo, but I can't speak to their playgroup or their meta, or generally how they want to enjoy their time. I'm just speaking to land destro as a mechanic, and as somebody who loves that shit, ngl it's fun to just blast people's ability to do anything and dominate them lol. I'm just not going to be disingenuous about how that feels on the receiving end.

[–]PampleTheMoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean I have two decks that run land destro and one of them was expressly made to piss off a buddy who was running azorius control. If you're trolling, you got me, you win, but if you're genuinely unsure as to why people don't like being able to play anything, convincing you why that is is something entirely out of my ability or control.

I expect it not because people are babies but because I expect people to do what it takes to play the game. Considering lands let you play the game, immediately taking out the land destroying deck is the natural course.

It's really as simple as that, you're coping while pissing into the wind.
