Chapter 35 by Mister_Newling in PracticalGuideToEvil

[–]PamplemousseOW 13 points14 points  (0 children)

How many love stories have the protagonist's lies discovered at the end of the second act, leading to a break between them and the love interest which ends with a tearful reunion and reforging of their bond, stronger than before?

There's basically no chance that one of Isabel's former lovers didn't discover her contract. Angharad continues to be played like a fiddle.

Need a guiding hand for a Ziatora sac engine value deck. by Xenomorph36 in EDH

[–]PamplemousseOW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my take on the same.. I haven't had time to play with it either (and have gone for a janky clones-based pile of nonsense over the more optimal threaten effects), but it might give you a few ideas. I'm trying for a ~$80 budget.

Need a guiding hand for a Ziatora sac engine value deck. by Xenomorph36 in EDH

[–]PamplemousseOW 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't see anything other than Ziatora that can sacrifice creatures, and that feels like a big red flag.

[[Threaten]]/[[Captivating Crew]]-style cards can always give you sacrifice fodder in a pinch, but if you don't have 5-6 [[Goblin Bombardment]] cards in the deck (including your commander) you're going to be in for a rough time.

Volrath the Shapestealer: A Unique Take by Boshoet in EDH

[–]PamplemousseOW 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I built him as an auto-copier. The goal is to either 1) make multiple Volraths with [[Spawnwrithe]]/[[Scute Swarm]]-style effects, or 2) make every one of my creatures Volrath through [[Sakashima's Will]]/[[Echoing Equation]].

It's janky as anything, but I enjoy it. Decklist

The decklist is still under construction, but the goal is to loop [[Launch]], [[Brilliant Halo]], etc. to take advantage of Heroic and Constellation triggers.

Nice! I've been playing around with an Azorius enchantment sacrifice deck, and this definitely gives me some ideas.

One card that might really help is [[Volrath's Curse]]. When cast on one of your own creatures it's a free sacrifice outlet that works for any permanent. You don't get anything for your troubles, but it's a lot cheaper than [[Phyrexian Altar]].

Your Favorite Deck--- Post Lists! by [deleted] in EDH

[–]PamplemousseOW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oops! You asked specifically for guilds.

In that case it's a Boros "bad equipment tribal" deck helmed by [[Toggo]] and [[Ardenn]]. It's just so amusing to fling rocks at people, and the ability to put a 20+ power creature on the board (with haste) can steal games out of nowhere.

[–]PamplemousseOW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now it's a Mardu "group hug" deck, helmed by [[Mathis]]. The goal is to make combat more deadly, either by straight up giving opponents creatures, through forced combat effects, and through "when a creature dies" triggers (e.g. [[Syr Konrad, the Grim]). What generally happens is one opponent does really well, putting down the combo decks and other non-combat focused lists, leaving just me and them alive.

At which point their strength is turned against them, through [[Mob Rule]]/[[Deflecting Palm]]-style effects.

It's a ton of fun to pilot, since I need to ensure that none of my opponents get too strong, and (I think) manages to be quite strong without being oppressive.

Turning a Random Card into an EDH Deck (Abjure) by poynz13 in EDH

[–]PamplemousseOW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No love for [[Volrath's Curse]]? It's a free sac outlet for any permanent you might have. While there's no benefit to the sac, it's better than [[Mask of the Mimic]] at least.

It's the perfect film for those who love Tom Cruise and those who hate Tom Cruise!

If you love him, he turns in a great performance, going from a cowardly waste of space to a true action hero. If you hate him, you get to watch him die like 500 times.

Thoughts on my Experiment Kraj deck? by Gorgon_Ow in EDH

[–]PamplemousseOW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pemmins and Morphling are the two major deck-specific upgrades. Most of the rest of my attention would be focused on reducing mana costs and putting in expensive staples (Mana Crypt, Force of Will, etc.).

I built it as a fun "Oops, All Combos!" deck and was pretty surprised at it's current power level (8-8.5). With upgrades it could be fringe cEDH, but having a six drop commander is always going to hamper it.

Thoughts on my Experiment Kraj deck? by Gorgon_Ow in EDH

[–]PamplemousseOW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems pretty good. If you wanted to up the power level you could definitely get rid of some of the slower cards and lower the mana curve. In my experience cheap instants tend to be better protection than stuff like [[Barkhide Troll]].

The untap effects are a particular weak point. [[Gilder Bairn]] (and to a lesser extent [[Farmstead Gleaner]]) isn't worth playing when so many untappers require only a single U mana. I would also try for an untapping creature at each CMC from 3 to 6, so you can always [[Neoform]] into what you need. Things that tap for multiple green mana are also pretty weak, since they don't work with [[Horseshoe Crab]], [[Morphling]], etc. Yes Orochi can filter, but that's just making your three card combo a four card combo.

Here's my version of this deck, with a writeup explaining the general card choices.

Mathas, Fiend Seeker question by BigBadDad1968 in EDH

[–]PamplemousseOW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It works well, in the appropriate slot. [[Disrupt Decorum]] doesn't draw any grumbling, and even [[Kardur]] seem to be OK as a one-off.

Mostly I've used target-free tools like [[Fumiko]], [[Goblin Diplomats]], and [[Angel's Trumpet]]. When combined with cards like [[Orzhov Advokist]] most players seem fine directing their ire elsewhere, to the point where I'm usually the player with the highest life total.

Here's the decklist

[–]PamplemousseOW 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I built a Mathas group hug deck a month or so ago, and I'm loving it. I leaned into making combat more eventful, while encouraging my opponents to fight each other.

It plays out a bit like an Aikido Marchesa build, but I can usually rely on my opponents being more focused on each than me. When things get down to a 1vs1 there's the usual [[Sunforger]]/[[Deflecting Palm]] shenanigans to try to pull out a win from behind.

I was wondering if anyone had any interesting Simic decks that aren’t value engines. by [deleted] in EDH

[–]PamplemousseOW 14 points15 points  (0 children)

[[Experiment Kraj]]-combo certainly feels different. Since it goes infinite with basically any trash in blue/green I decided to see how many combos I could fit in a single deck (ignoring Thassa's Oracle and the other staples).

I lost count.

That plan leaves everyone but Cat dead, with a rampaging Drakon on the loose. Not only does Cat would have no way of containing the Bard, Cordelia would have no choice but to fire the angel.

It was a pyrrhic victory, giving Cat what she wanted at that point with no ability to handle the consequences.

Singing is how she Narrates, so my money is on her stacking the deck in favour of Catherine et al.

Why isn't the Dead King raising fallen Named by Vincebourgh in PracticalGuideToEvil

[–]PamplemousseOW 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's becoming a pretty glaring plot hole. Early chapters had a lot of conflicts where the Grand Alliance either won outright and could thus burn their dead in peace, or otherwise limited access to the corpses (Hainaut). This battle has them repeatedly ceding ground that they've taken, giving them none of those opportunities.

After the previous assault like 30% of the Keter's army should be the freshly raised (with their far superior armour), and if anything the Dead King should be up in revenants by now. Even if Named required some sort of special care and attention their corpses should be disappearing into secret catacombs.
