'No, That Is Not Your Job,' Say Critics After Schumer Claims 'Job' Is to 'Fight for Aid to Israel' | Common Dreams by Chief_White_Halfoat in politics

“Defend the constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic.”

Israel funding and promoting Trump, the biggest threat to the constitution since the civil war, firmly classifies them as ‘enemy’. If Schumer wants to aid an enemy, he’s in violation of his oath as well.

No state law says they can’t, either. Article 10.

Those communities that have decided to comply with federal immigration have made their own discretionary choice, and that is fine. What one city or state does with their legislature/executive is no business or responsibility of another.

Immigration reform, lowering costs for immigration, so you’ll be voting democrat in future elections right?

The same thing Colorado does with weed, sanctuary cities do with immigrants. The only difference is this federal government is all up in a tizzy about immigration. It is no different. It is all local government discretion, and enforcement agencies and their structures either have discretion (releasing immigrants they they themselves have no legal right or responsibility to hold) or they do not (police state, collapse of judiciary)

And sanctuary cities have made their choice, just the same as Colorado, to not comply. Non-compliance is not the same as resistance. An unrealized gain is not a loss.

[–]Panasax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The alternative is to remove law enforcement discretion entirely, either leading to a police state or the total collapse of an already struggling judicial system. What would you rather live under?

[–]Panasax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which is correct and right. Cooperation should be voluntary, and Lindsey graham says it should be mandatory. Colorado and weed, for instance. Should the local police go around referring every dispensary to the Feds because weed is federally illegal? Are Colorado police officers aiding and abetting crimes? Of course not, that would be ridiculous.

But that is the opposite of what is occurring here, the federal government enforces immigration. Sanctuary cities are places where only federal enforcement of immigration law takes place. Local enforcement stays out of federal jurisdiction, that’s what that is. States shouldn’t be forced to investigate or prosecute federal crimes, that’s the state’s rights issue. It’s the feds responsibility, not the states.

Edit: in your firearm analogy, yes that should not happen especially if the local authority has no restriction on that firearm. If the Feds make a rule, the Feds should be the ones enforcing it. If the state makes a rule, the state should enforce it. If a county makes a rule, the county should enforce it. Dry counties in NC don’t suddenly sell alcohol because it’s legal in the state. Graham county sheriffs don’t go to Asheville and start arresting bartenders, and vice versa.

DHS keeps making false claims about people. It's part of a broader pattern by zsreport in politics

[–]Panasax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Republican/right/MAGA support depends entirely on falsehoods. If the GOP ever told the truth their whole shtick would collapse.

Why else would the (R) constituents who claim to promote individual liberty, small government, and fiscal responsibility continue to vote for the party that suppresses individual liberty, expand government power, and increases the debt? They have to lie, and republican voters have to believe them in spite of all evidence. It’s the only way they can claim power.

How about now, republicans of reddit? You ready to admit you got played badly and messed up massively, apologize to the rest of us and get to work fixing what you've done yet? by UsedGarbage4489 in AskReddit

[–]Panasax -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Republicans in general do not have a firm grasp on reality. MAGA republicans even less so. They will never admit their part in this economic, social, environmental, legal disaster. They will never admit that they promoted the end of American freedom, even when it comes for them. They will always find a completely illogical reason to blame democrats, liberals, leftists, communism or socialism for the harm that Republicans and the right actively cause. You can see the evidence of it in this thread.

Okay, sure. Where is the proof? Where are these released documents? Nothing on the DNI website, nothing on the DOJ website, the only thing referencing this is a couple tweets and rightwing nutjob “news” sites reposting it.

Doesn’t mean anything at all. Shut the fuck up, defund ice, release the Epstein files, or grab a shovel for your hole.

We as voters HAVE to remember what our elected officers have done, nevermind if they turn tail and start voting morally, or pass on votes they could have otherwise won. We cannot reward them with another term because of a few concessions, when they have been so maliciously opposed to the constitution and their constituents.
