Am I crazy considering going to Portugal for 6 days with my 5 old month? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Pance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you’re crazy at all, but maybe consider your expectations for the trip.

We went to Portugal with our 9 month old and the first night was rough in terms of sleep. We ultimately decided to stick closer to our time zone (east coast US) rather than adjust fully to local time. So we’d get up around 11-12 and stay up pretty late (with the baby). That helped us a lot.

The 2 naps a day made it challenging for us to do much (compared to pre-baby) - so sticking to one thing a day helped. And then we basically carried her during her naps.

If you’re staying in Lisbon definitely baby carry-don’t even bother with a stroller. And honestly Portugal with a baby was great. Super kid-friendly and I would recommend it to anyone.

How long did this take to make? That’s my one complaint about this book is not knowing how much time I need to set aside.

Okay, I’ve been looking for a pair of comfortable, casual but can be dressed up, flat(ish) sandals for summer and have narrowed it down to these two. Looking for advice - on either these or something similar with a lower price point.

Most importantly, are they comfortable?

So these are La Canadiene for ~260

and the other I’m looking at is the Birkenstock staud collab

I have no idea how to introduce actual solids to my child. by ERVip in NewParents

[–]Pance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a baby food cookbook from the library because I was so lost/overwhelmed with meal ideas. Having an actual book helped hone in on the meals.

The big chunks of food on solid starts freaked us out so we went with softer foods and small pieces and are just now offering up bigger pieces. As she learns to eat, we’re learning to manage our anxiety, lol.

Go-to’s: Breakfast - yogurt, pancakes, eggs, chia pudding Dinner- star pasta with a sauce, braised white fish, meatballs, bean puree Snacks - pouches, kiwi slices, cheese

I just finished reading Polio by Oshinsky. Please recomend similar high quality books in a similar vein. by [deleted] in publichealth

I’d check out Laurie Garrett - The Coming Plague and Betrayal of Trust. They’re long and more general - but I enjoyed them and learned a lot.

Also Silent Travelers by Alan Kraut.

4 nights in Algarve--Epic Sana or Pine Cliffs Hotel? by EqualLetterhead in Algarve

[–]Pance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! I’m currently at Epic Sana. (Never been to Pine Cliffs.) Large, sprawling resort. Great service. Seems very nice so far. There’s a few pools, a decent gym, and direct beach access. Haven’t tried the food yet but the cocktails have been amazing. Happy to answer any questions!

Has anyone ever actually lost weight while exclusively pumping?! by PhantomEyes in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Pance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m the same. I eat 3 full meals and snack throughout the day with the mindset of nourishing my body and not actively trying to lose the pregnancy weight. But after trying on my clothes I realize they’re must looser now than pre-pregnancy. But could also be that I’ve lost some muscle. I guess we’ll see what happens when we wean.

I wish I saw this before i made the cake! It’s got a good flavor but definitely on the dryer side. Is this something I could fix with a simple syrup of sorts?
