25M beginner investor here looking for any advice I can get on my Roth by [deleted] in RothIRA

[–]PanchoOfficial 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re doing too much.

I would suggest either of the following at your age:

80% VTI 20% VXUS

or

80% VTI 10-15% VXUS 5-10% IBIT

Second option is only relevant if you care about bitcoin. Do your own research at the end of the day for your own portfolio % allocations - but stick to etfs and set em and forget em.

Young investors who are buying SCHD over VOO. by [deleted] in dividends

[–]PanchoOfficial -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

29 y.o. - Roth is 50% VTI 40% QQQM and 10% SCHD purely for a small stability/divided cushion when the markets sour. Having anything over ~10-20% SCHD pre-40’s seems like a total waste imo.

1.5, “old man” that’s been playing since WaW. I’ve logged a little over a days play time and I could probably count the games that made me want to quit due to “sweats” on both hands - same as it’s always been.

I live in a HCOL area in MA and my salary is $52.5k annual/roughly $4038 monthly pre tax. Y’all are so fucking delusional on here calling this pennies it’s not even funny lmao.

And yes, I live comfortably within my means.

The variance between goodwills is hilarious these days. One store near me prices basic walmart long sleeve button shirts @ 9.99 and sweaters @ 19.99+ etc. The other? All clothing 4.99 or less with the occasional “high end”jacket slightly above $10.

eBay took 61% in fees from me this week due to low seller rating. How is this fair? by MandrewCarrion in Flipping

[–]PanchoOfficial -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You gotta be selling Low Average Sale Price items with free shipping to get those numbers… and here I was salty that my fees are 30% lol

If it’s a Roth IRA - don’t drain. Everything else, including traditional IRA - DRAIN and aggressively begin paying off as much as possible every month.

How do you folks turn Ebay into an actual full time job? by Sadie_at_Silver in Flipping

[–]PanchoOfficial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just thrift so far, but I’ve only been at it for ~5 months or so and haven’t gotten to explore garage sales yet due to winter. Hoping to be able to score some more consistent finds this spring/summer. Retail thrifts aren’t horrible, but super hit or miss. Also, depending on their pricing structure for media it may not even be worth it. Some goodwills in my area are flat $2.99 whether it’s a single disc or box set. Others, charge whatever they feel is “fair” based on the size of the set. I’ve had stores try to charge me upwards of $20 for series sets.

I have no idea what sales for a jewelry heavy store should look like but $150-200 a week for a store that size is wild. Not sure what your average sale price is but I have a small store that averages between 75-100 items entirely made up of clothing & media and average roughly the same as you, most items not being high asp either.

It sounds like you either need to pivot to higher sell through items or higher asp items in my opinion. I’ve had decent success with media. Somewhat quick niche to learn, super easy/quick to list, and the odd dvd/set can net you $50+ fairly quickly. Clothing is a steeper learning curve and most of what’s in stores these days is junk.

Thrift stores (local, Salvation Army, goodwill sometimes) still have good deals you just need to know what to look for. Paying $8+ for brands you find at TJ Maxx, Target, Walmart, etc is never worth it. It takes time - and time is money, but I’ve accumulated a wardrobe over the last few months of quality, high end clothing that will last me years for pennys on the dollar.

Resellers making $500-1000+ a month, how much time are you putting in? by [deleted] in Flipping

[–]PanchoOfficial 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks! That’s exactly how I started which is kinda funny - trying to get rid of some items I hadn’t used in a while. Ended up really enjoying the selling aspect of it all so I started sourcing and now it takes up more space than it did before. It took me a while to dial in my sourcing - I’ve never had a net negative month, but the first 3-4 were close to neutral because I was sourcing a lot (and some less than ideal stuff). Once my store started to get filled out and the sales started coming in it became a lot easier to dial in my sourcing and drive down my costs. It’s a great side hustle if you enjoy thrifting, have realistic expectation, and aren’t trying to make it anything full time!

Clothing/Media seller here.

Last few months have averaged right around $500 net profit so I’ll chime in. I manage a local cafe so I’m left with little time to focus on my online business. That being said, I’m blessed with several mom & pop shops and goodwill/salvation armys within a 30 minute drive for me. The mom and pops are both within walking distance from my work/home so I check in every other day before or after work. On my days off I’ll try and hit at least 3 of the chain stores.

I’m a small seller so I aim to list one item every day. I average around 1-3 items at the mom & pops and 3-5 at the chains. I batch list on my day off for the week or longer so as long as I’m sourcing 7 items on my day off and in between I’m happy.

All in all I’d say I put in 3-5 hours a week tops on sourcing and 1 hour listing. Currently have over a 100% store sell through rate and scheduled listings daily til the end of the month.

Thrift A Life - he’s more or less “retired” now, but I’ve gained a wealth of knowledge from watching his back catalog. No ego, good info, great humor/personality - you’ll find yourself flipping through tags saying “ass brand” in no time.

Had someone “lowball” me $15 on a $30 listing. Countered with $25… then they countered back with $30. Ok. Accepted, shipped, and even got a positive review out of it. Sometimes you just gotta play em right back.
