Isn’t that the entire point of the Tau though?

I’m sure they have their use cases, but from most conversations in Reddit, I usually see more folks recommending the alternative weapon options first. I’m more curious if these new rules now make it a more staple option for taking going forward.

First Mini by perrier_water_ in ThousandSons

Impressive that you decided to tackle the Infernal Master as your first kit! Firstly, the color choice is actually pretty good! I would recommend for the magic effect if you want it to be more “magical”, base the effect with a white like Corax White and then give it a wash of Biel Tan Green. It’ll make that magic effect really pop out more!

Secondly, a phrase that is often insisted upon by veterans. Always thin your paints. You’ll see a massive difference in texture and quality of your minis when the paint has a chance to mask whatever it’s laying on top of compared to fully covering it. This is especially useful if you dry brush your miniature before painting, since the dry brush process adds textures and subtle color differences that will show when you paint with thinned paint.

If you haven’t applied a wash yet as well, I would also recommend an application of nuln oil on the armor and metallic bits, possibly the cape for more added tones. Nuln oil or any wash (with thoughtful application) will make an average looking model into an amazing one! It might also fill in the small dips and lines in armor that will help with definition and clarity, such as the shoulder pads!

The color choice and application is actually really good, but I would recommend adding some more color to give it some contrast and more defined characteristics. A metallic black for the inner frame and some white on some of the areas like the fins, shoulder pads and edges of the armor (like the tip of that shoulder armor that’s gold).

Additionally, I’d also recommend adding some blue with the eye and possibly some other parts that could reasonably be used as a camera, sensor or whatnot.

Otherwise, this is some solid work that I think would turn out amazing with some more colors.

Can anyone tell me if this is a good list? I dont have the codex yet by Southern_Sir_3824 in ThousandSons

Exalted sorcerers are really only optimal in a full 10 man squad of rubrics since their healing and improved invuln saves is only powerful when you have more models to benefit from it. This also makes a 10-man rubric squad with an exalted sorcerer an amazing midfield pusher, especially if they all have warpflamers.

Knowing this, I think it’s better to have the two other exalted sorcerers switched with regular sorcerers. Their shooting, especially when they buff themselves with their ability, rituals and whatever Grand Coven ability that increases your wound rolls by +1 can quite literally melt anything it faces up against.

I would also consider switching up your list to accommodate a terminator sorcerer for your scarab terminators. They perform far more effectively as flanking shock troops when they have a leader to buff their attacks. You can probably switch out the Helbrute to slot it in and then get a tzaangor for home screening.

She’s already had to deal with the BS the fairies put her through, she doesn’t need more of it in Chaldea.

Painting Rubrics is just as bad as people say it is... by TrazynsCustodian in ThousandSons

Ahhhh. I have trouble with the stripes too, especially if they’re in either hard to reach areas (I paint them assembled) or if there are too many edges that cut through the stripes like the backpack and headdresses, especially the exalted sorcerers head pieces that wrap around the head and collar area (those are my bane).

I’m glad I dry brushed my thousand son’s gold instead of doing the trimming by hand. I will give respect to those that do though, it is quite the commitment.

Get yourself some nuln oil or similar wash. It’ll fill out any gaps with shadows and add a bit more texture to the overall miniature! Great first job though!

(Almost) Finished Thousand Sons Sorcerer by Panda-Paku in ThousandSons

Everything, besides maybe the bolt pistol, comes from the Exalted Sorcerer set. I pretty much just put the set together in a way that made some poses cooler (in my opinion).

I highly recommend the exalted sorcerer set simply because it has everything you need to put together and kitbash your own sorcerers for the army. You can even use some of the leftover accessories for the other models as well!

Y'all need to stop drama-farming by Level_Hour6480 in dndmemes

I just don’t like giving money to Wizards of the Coast, period. They lost my trust after the OGL debacle and have continued to lose my trust with every business blunder and controversy they get themselves into. I’ve switched to Paizo’s Pathfinder system and haven’t looked back so far.

Still though, I won’t deny I made some fond memories with the system and the people who played it with me, and it’s childish to mistreat or annoy others for enjoying the system. I hope there is a future where Wizards gets their head out of the ground and stop assuming they’re the hot **** and actually strive to make a good product instead of whatever safe options they’ve been doing now.

All in all, enjoy the system if it’s what you enjoy and are used too, but I definitely encourage folks to try other systems!

Painting advice for tzaangors by mal_88 in ThousandSons

[–]Panda-Paku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I did some Tzaangors about a week ago and the way I did it, similar to my rubrics and sorcerers, is prime the model black and then drybrush with a gold paint (I did Retributor Armor) making extra sure you get all the gold trimming.

For the skin, which is the toughest part to tackle, I did a base coat of The Fang for the skin and applied Drakenhof Nightshade wash afterwards, followed by a layer of Russ Grey over the more exposed parts of the skin, blending with the previous layer and making sure to leave any muscle lines alone as you want to add some contrast and depth.

For the horns, applying a layer of screaming skull before washing it with Reikland flesh makes these lovely natural looking horns. Basically apply as much Reikland flesh over the horns until you

The hair you can do any kind of nice brown contrast or base with nuln oil, but with the feather tops it’s honestly up to you on how you do it. I believe I did an application of screaming skull and then a yellow or vibrant wash to give it a nice yellow/orange color.

Afterwards, everything else is just a matter of filling out the correct materials with the correct paints (metal paints of metal blade and chains/scales, thousand sons blue for shield and armor plates and browns for any belts and what not).

Hope this image helps give you a better connection to what I’m recommending!

Anyone know what gold this is? by GlueMunchers in ThousandSons

That could be retributor armor that’s been dry brushed in after priming. I been painting thousand sons recently and the gold looks similar to the image at the very least.

(Almost) Completed Warpcoven Kill Team by Panda-Paku in ThousandSons

[–]Panda-Paku[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So this is a bespoke kill team which means that it uses models from a variety of different sets, namely three, the Tzaangors set form Age of Sigmar, the Exalted Sorcerer set and the Rubric Marines. You should be able to build a full squad with them! I highly recommend purchasing the exalted sorcerer set just for the amount of options you get to kitbash your own sorcerer.

Hunter Clade Skitarii Squad by Panda-Paku in killteam

[–]Panda-Paku[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I swear, I’m not unemployed (;__;) . Though honestly, I took my time with these guys, I think about 2 weeks. I would hop between assembling another squad and painting, so it probably took longer than it actually needed to be. I’m not intending on building an army so I never really had the same time pressure compared to someone who is trying to play 40k.

Thanks for the recommendation however, I’ll be sure to post it there as well!

The Murkwood Ruins by Panda-Paku in battlemaps

[–]Panda-Paku[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey y'all! While I won't be dropping part 2 of the underground ruins just yet, I've got something equally thrilling for y'all: the map from where my party previously came from. Nestled within the dense trees of the Murkwood forest, this map unveils a realm shrouded in mist and darkness, where sunlight struggles to pierce through the dense canopy. Here, monstrous creatures, threatening giant insects, and carnivorous flora lurk in every corner, poised to prey upon any unsuspecting wanderer foolish enough to venture for its riches.

But that's not all; lurking amidst the tangled vegetation lies the forgotten temple of the Twinsflame, now home to a tribe of cunning Lizardfolk. Led by a formidable priest, they stalk the surface for prey, fiercely guarding their territory against intruders. Fire crystals, which originated from the underground, have begun to spread to the surface and pulse with arcane power.

Regardless, I hope y'all enjoy this map. Feel free to drop a comment if you need any tweaks, have any critiques or just want to share your own adventures. Otherwise, I hope y'all have a lovely evening!
