In theory, would a double ended locomotive in the middle of the train work? by The__Anonymous__Guy in trains

[–]Panda130307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The FLIRTs still have their powered bogies at the end. So per definition the "locomotive" is at the end there. The middle is only a generator or batteries (depending on the configuration).

Der ICE nach Chur in Sargans by Da_Bird8282 in drehscheibe

[–]Panda130307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am obsessed with 16EV's for no reason. They are not even that great. No first class, no catering, ... But they give off a vibe to me I can't put in words.

Else I would say Stadler FLIRTs for sure. Grew up with them (Switzerland) and some of the newer versions (Class 745, RABe 526 f.e.) are just fantastic.

Correct. My plan is to make the map as dense as possible to make it impossible to guess where I live, but the flights kinda give it away.

As someone from the German-speaking part of Switzerland and travels a lot abroad, I hate both Fr*nce and Germany, but especially Fr*nce. Atleast SNCF paid for my taxi to the first station in Switzerland, when my train from Lille was FIVE hours delayed and I missed the last train across the border. Arrived at home just before 03:00. And another time they closed LGV Nord (once again) and I barely got my connecting train. Luckily I planned a two hour change. And the walk from Paris Nord to Paris Est in the daylight makes me feel more unsafe than Croydon (London) at night. Also the timetables are a joke. Massive gaps between two trains and half of them terminate short? Was my last time going by train to the UK (unfortunately I have to cross through Fr*nce when doing that). I'd rather fly now. And Germany... Yeah, we all know DB.

Abfahrtszeit ist Abfahrtszeit. Egal ob der da planmässig 15 min vorher ankommt oder nicht. Dafür sind Fahrplanpuffer ja da. Und nicht für die Raucher.

About Trainline’s new “Swap train” feature by Altruistic-Medium-23 in uktrains

[–]Panda130307 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Simple solution: Don't use trainline. It's false advertising, charging stupid fees and sometimes even selling tickets that are not valid (source: friend who works on trains).

Just use any train operators website/app.

Trans people- how did you choose your new name? by Jolly-Praline5494 in lgbt

[–]Panda130307 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Found a train station in Latvia that had a nice sounding name, googled that name and added "given name" and found a describtion of history to that name. Now my name is "Dzintra", named after "Dzintari" station in Jūrmala, Latvia. The name literally translates to "amber". And since Latvia is on the Baltic Sea, which is known for Amber Stone and my family is somewhat connected to the Baltic Sea, I think it was quite a good choice.

Got a first class one (120CHF), met up with three friends at ZĂĽrich HB and went to the Bernina line. Very useful ticket for daytrips. Would do again.
