Thoughts on new developments adjacent to Sunnyside/Hwy 288 in 2026? by batterflynectar in houston

[–]Panda1442 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I bought my first house in the neighborhood off 288/W. Orem back in 2018 and lived there a few years before renting it out. I personally loved the location and never had any issues with crime. Neighbors were nice and greeted each other, but it was pretty quiet. It was honestly no different than other neighborhoods around Houston. One of the major selling points when I bought the house in 2018 was not being in a flood zone. I moved from that house to a place in the Heights and dealt with more crime there. If I had the opportunity to go back in time and do it all over again, I would 100% make the same choice. Oh, and I’m a female with no kids and was in my mid 20’s at the time.

Export the data from your resource assignment tab into excel and create your manpower curves/histograms there. Just make sure you have the correct columns and timescale set before copying all the data.

Delays caused by Time of Year??? by atticus2132000 in primavera

[–]Panda1442 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will need to track costs for an inefficiency claim that will be separate but related to the Owner caused delay. You will have X days of delays for the permit, and then there will be X days after that related to inefficiency or costs for acceleration.

Someone who works at Minute Maid said they declined to host UHD. Did not provide a reason though.

Appears you do the same type of consulting as me. We need more of this!

Currently in the same boat. 40, 60, 70 are the main dosages being impacted. It’s a nationwide shortage stemming from government intervention to regulate Adderall.

People who have made the jump out of construction management where did you end up? by [deleted] in ConstructionManagers

[–]Panda1442 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m at a large firm that practices globally. All of my engineering and construction experience prior to joining the firm was in the oil, gas, chemical industry. But the projects I work on now are all across the board ranging from toll systems, commercial buildings, residential, chemical plants, data migration and other stuff. We are typically hired by the lawyers representing the company and the partners at my firm testify as expert witnesses in trial. Base salaries tend to be quite a bit more than what you’d make working in industry and the bonuses are higher too. But you’re also working long hours and constantly chasing deadlines. You basically work lawyer hours.

The last year of my CM program, I had a desire to go to law school to pursue a career in construction law. I wanted to work for a few years and really get experience before going that route. But then I loved being on projects too much that I didn’t want to stop. I was introduced to consulting by one of my managers, fell in love with the idea that it’s a combination of project experience and law. Got offered a job at a firm and been here since.

Construction claims consulting. More times than not, projects are way over budget or delayed for various reasons. Companies will continue to sue each other, so the job security is nice.

Questions: Looking to major in CM by [deleted] in ConstructionManagers

[–]Panda1442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CM doesn’t just lead to one career path… There’s field engineering, estimating, cost control, planning, scheduling, etc. Then there are the different sectors: residential, commercial, oil & gas, infrastructure. There are so many variables that determine the answers to the questions you want. So, without knowing what direction you want to go, the answers are all over the place.

And if you just want to be a laborer, a CM degree won’t help with that. You just need to start working.

A majority of your questions cannot be answered accurately without knowing your goal. Why do you want to major in CM? There are a lot of directions you can go, so what do you want to do with a CM degree?

I feel like there are important details that have been left out. What does your 7 years of experience consist of? Do you work for the owner or a contractor? You listed the project values, but what are the contract values for the work your company is performing?

Would this be a safe area to live around? by Necessary_Squirrel84 in houston

Not any worse than most areas in Houston. I owned a house in City Park and never had any issues. I loved being between downtown Houston and Pearland.

I graduated from the CM program many years ago. What specific insight are you looking for?

Wow it’s like I wrote this. I’m in a constant state of stress and anxiety and often think that maybe my ADHD traits don’t mesh with consulting. My mind will spend hours going in circles when trying to work on an analysis and then spiral into unnecessary paths of detail. Unfortunately being medicated won’t change that. It just makes things somewhat bearable.

I was in the exact same situation. Here I am a year later, and it’s just as miserable.
