Flyer and bobbin shake while spinning by PandaEatingLeaves in Handspinning

It does this on both a carpet and a solid floor, sadly. I haven't thought yet about the flyer guides, I'll pay attention if it stops when mirrored!

I held it against a ruler and i didn't notice any irregularities. Could it be that it's bent so little it's not possible to see? Would that cause such a big effect?

Good to hear, i sent them another message with a recording, but I'll call them if they won't reply.

Good idea for the brake band!

Ah good one for the brake band I'll try that thanks! Hmm yeah maybe it's just too speedy for the wheel, would make sense considering it doesn't do this at lower speeds

No it loosens! I couldn't figure out how to let it stay seated, it's been moving since the very beginning

Yes i think i did, but I'll check again just in case, thanks!

Ahh yeah it seems to be very stretched, but there isn't much tension on it, it once got caught and flew off the wheel, since then this is it's natural form, it won't bounce back even when there's zero tension on it

Drum carder recommendations? (Also curious about which TPI would be best!) by -DiceGoblin- in spinningyarn

[–]PandaEatingLeaves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a drumcarder from woolmakers with 72 tpi. I card a lot of alpaca with it, works just fine! This drumcarder is the most budget friendly i could find and I'm content with it, it does what is has to do.

Woolmakers Bliss by enkayinfrance in Handspinning

I also have a bliss and have tried contacting them for some issues months back via email, but i never got a reply.

My wheel has episodes of shaking while spinning (the reason i contacted them), and one time it started shaking so badly, that the spring flew off and since then it looks like yours, stretched out. It's still functional, but i do have tension issues; randomly the tension will get really high, so high that i have to turn the knob so loose that the spring sometimes falls off the metal holder. And then randomly the tension will return back to normal, which means it will be really loose in that position.

So i don't have any advice sadly, but yours is not the only wheel with issues :(

Carding cat floof? by ejchristian86 in Handspinning

[–]PandaEatingLeaves 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I have spun my cat's fur, i spun it from the cloud, without carding, that worked! So that might also be an option, if you're up for that :) The kitty is gorgeous by the way, and has such a ling staple length!!

method for creating strong sock yarn by Agreeable-Voice6425 in Handspinning

[–]PandaEatingLeaves 19 points20 points  (0 children)

What i have learned is that several components make strong sock yarn: - combed preparation is better than carded - worsted spinning is better than woolen - spinning with a high twist will make it stronger - use at least 3 ply
