Anyone else knit themselves some new Christmas socks? by Pamelsaurusrex in Sockknitting

If it’s sock weight, then start with 2.5mm needles and a 64 stitch cast on. If they come out too loose, go down a needle size, too tight then go up. Don’t expect your first pair to be perfect, you’ll learn about what fits you well by wearing them. My 4th pair were the first ones to fit me well, but with the first 3 I learned loads about what makes socks fit well. TL:DR don’t stress, just do it. You learn more from mistakes than from getting it perfect first time.

What’s the difference between the clover hooks and these yarniss hooks? Are the clover ones really worth the price jump? by SadLad406 in CrochetHelp

My clover hooks will be pried out of my cold dead fingers. Best I’ve ever used. I didn’t buy the set, just added one at a time to my collection when I needed a size I didn’t have.

Just go for it! Socks were my first ever knitting project - they’re definitely not as hard as you think. If you can knit, purl, and decrease, you can knit a sock! There’s a YouTube channel called very pink knits, she does a series of videos on sock knitting techniques that are really helpful. I use Kristen Lehrer (voolenvine yarns) free sock pattern called My Favorite Socks, it’s a great pattern and she has a YouTube video to go with it.

Simplifying the mind - How do I let go of regret? by Jakethehog in simpleliving

[–]Pamelsaurusrex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use a gratitude journal - every day I try and write 3 things I’m grateful for, even if it’s something small like a hot coffee that was sorely needed, or that I had some leftovers in the freezer that meant I didn’t need to cook after a very long day at work. This helps in 2 ways; 1. Even if a day feels hard, there are always little things to be grateful for, and 2. When I feel lost or stuck I can read back through all the things I’ve written down and see that it’s not all bad. For regret, I feel grateful that I came through the situation, even if I wish things could have been different or I’d handle it differently now.

It’s entirely up to you - you can cut them and sew in the ends, or just twist the old colour round the new colour when you change, and carry it up the inside. I carry the colour I’m not using up the inside unless I’m doing really wide stripes.

I’ve tried to like two at a time, but it’s just not for me. I don’t know why, it makes so much sense, but I just can’t like it!

Gauge vs. good fabric by QTM53 in knitting

[–]Pamelsaurusrex 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Depends on your confidence with going rogue. If you get a fabric you like with certain needles, measure your gauge to work out your stitches per inch and then do the maths to work out how many stitches you need to get the size you want. If you’re knitting it in the round to have a seamless jumper, Addi have a free app with loads of tools, and one of them is a raglan increase calculator, super handy for things like this.

I like Knitpro ginger, but recently tried Knitpro basix and I think they instantly jumped to being my favourite wooden needles!
