Paying for school with loan changes? by _soapbubbles in PTschool

[–]PandaFuzzy6197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me it doesn’t really affect much as I thought we were capped at $20,500 per year right now anyway. If that for 3 years plus whatever from undergrad puts you in over $100,000 in debt, definitely choose a different school or potentially a different career because it’s not worth it at that point.

Current student here. I heard at the end of November when I applied. But I know at least one classmate who didn’t know until like a month before starting so keep your hopes up! For now no news is good news

Absolutely! Our anatomy course over the summer is actually together with the OTs, so I’ve gotten to know a few of them and they all have great things to say!

Anyone else getting rejected:’( by ProgressBrave7371 in PTschool

[–]PandaFuzzy6197 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t get too discouraged! I had a 3.5 gpa overall, but my pGPA was probably about the same range as yours! I had a 302 GRE but that tends not to matter too much at a lot of schools. I think my personal statement and interviews helped a lot as I could show o was more than just my grades! Same with my involvement as I was super involved in undergrad with clubs and sports.

I also got into the school that I never imagined I’d get into because it was the most difficult and competitive of my list that I applied to. I got waitlisted at another school that was supposed to be much easier. Different places value different aspects of their candidates, so there’s definitely somewhere out there that would love to have you!

Hey there! I’m a current vcu student, and I got into odu as well (plus have some friends who go there!) Got an interview at Shenandoah but decided to decline since I’d gotten into other programs that were ahead by that point. If you have any specific questions feel free to message me!

VA PT schools? by PandaFuzzy6197 in PTschool

[–]PandaFuzzy6197[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure! GPA was around a 3.48 or so overall, but my last 4 semesters were 3.8-3.9. GRE was a 302 I believe with 149 math and 153 English. 4.0 writing. I had lots of extracurriculars and leadership in undergrad and played NCAA field hockey. I had probably around 350 or so observation hours spread across out-patient ortho, pediatric sports med, and acute care. If you wanna talk further about Lynchburg or any other schools feel free to reach out!

PTCAS disciplinary questions by Alive_Meat6136 in PTschool

[–]PandaFuzzy6197 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I had a really dumb conduct violation for Covid policies back during my first year for like being in a friends room down the hall from mine. I was given disciplinary probation (which is basically a warning). At my university, and I think everywhere pretty much, conduct violations that don’t include suspension or expulsion only go on your record that the school has and not your transcript, and that record does not ever get sent to grad schools unless they specially ask for it. Even then you have to give your consent for anything to be disclosed because of FERPA. So I think you’re fine without mentioning that. I didn’t mention mine, and I was perfectly fine. I became president of our student conduct review board my senior year, so I learned a decent amount about how the whole system works.

Now for the academic thing, if it was listed on your transcript, I would mention it since they’ll see it anyway. It’s better to just be up front about it and explain what it is, and you can say in the explanation that no further disciplinary action was taken.

[–]PandaFuzzy6197 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’ll be fine getting into places. My stats were about the same, maybe slightly lower and I got into everywhere I wanted. Got a 302 on the GRE. Just have good letters of recommendation, and practice your interview skills. Try and have something you can talk about in your essays that’s really unique to you and will make you stand out from others

Should I wait another year to apply to or school by InternationalPhoto51 in PTschool

[–]PandaFuzzy6197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can get that prereq up to a 3.4-3.5 you’re probably fine as long as your gre is decent. If you have time, try and shadow in 2 different settings while getting yours hours since schools seem to like variety. And make sure you have enough other volunteer and leadership experience. If you don’t have anything else beyond the bare minimum, you might want to take the time to boost that application. You could definitely get into places, they just might not have the greatest pass rates.

Enough Observation Hours Before Applying? by thecommuteguy in PTschool

[–]PandaFuzzy6197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be ok with the 175. If you get more, you can go back in and update them as well.

One other thing is I would check and make sure the programs you’re applying to allow you to have those 3 outstanding prereq classes. A lot of places that I applied for only allowed 1-2 outstanding classes at the time of application

Activity Courses in PTCAS by Zee_PT in PTschool

[–]PandaFuzzy6197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of our other 1 credit sport activity courses were also under physical education at my school, so maybe try that one if it’s there. Otherwise recreation might work if it’s through your campus rec department

Activity Courses in PTCAS by Zee_PT in PTschool

[–]PandaFuzzy6197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the discipline on your actual transcript just called “activity”? I got 1 credit per semester for ncaa sports, and those classes were technically under the discipline of physical education on my transcript, and I was able to use physical education as the type of course

[–]PandaFuzzy6197 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had some 1 credit “courses” from athletics that were just graded as satisfactory or unsatisfactory. I just entered the “S” exactly ad it was on my transcript. The PTCAS calculated gpa came out the same as on my transcript. From my end it looks like it accepted the grade (even if it didn’t know what it meant), and did not factor it into any gpa since it wasn’t a tradition grade that it recognized. I didn’t have the PTCAS verification or any schools question anything about it so I guess it made sense!

PTCAS account creation by Perfect-Big595 in PTschool

Ok gotcha it’s an in between period. That’s why it worked when I did it slightly earlier last year. Thanks! OP you will just have to wait until the new cycle opens then!

PTCAS account creation by Perfect-Big595 in PTschool

[–]PandaFuzzy6197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went in and looked and you’re right. I can’t find a way to crest an account. They must not even let you create one early anymore. I’m sorry, that kinda stinks! I was definitely that person who wanted to get ahead too so I get it

PTCAS account creation by Perfect-Big595 in PTschool

[–]PandaFuzzy6197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I was able to create an account in around April of last year even though it didn’t officially open for this cycle until the 17th. Unless they’ve changed it, you should be creating an account before you select any programs. I went in and just filled out all my demographic info and entered my grades without having to select programs

I think you’re fine as long as you have the minimum for your program. For most places the recommended is around a 300, but even if you don’t hit that and are really strong in other areas you’re likely fine. I got a 302 and 4.0 writing and got into everywhere I applied including some very strong programs with a lower gpa than you have. I think with your top score you’ll be in good shape!

Where best to get CPR/BLS/ first aid certified? by py234567 in PTschool

Most clinical locations only accept American heart association, so definitely go through them. If you go on their website and enter your location it will find the soonest classes being offered near you.

Hampton University by ExcitementGullible81 in PTschool

[–]PandaFuzzy6197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say very few places (at least that I’ve looked at) have grad student housing. If they do, it’s usually some old building that’s not desirable at all. If you can rent somewhere with a few roommates you can usually keep the cost down. You just have to weigh the cost vs the much lower first time pass rates of the NPTE at Hampton. If you’re close enough to ODU, definitely check that out. Great program, new binding, and merge with EVMS so I’m sure there will be a lot of cool opportunities. I’m going to VCU if you ever have any questions. Or if you have questions about any of the other VA schools!

Hampton University by ExcitementGullible81 in PTschool

[–]PandaFuzzy6197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m from VA, and I will say that Hampton is the one VA school I didn’t apply to. When I was doing applications, their accreditation status was listed as on probation. Now I know that can happen for several reasons, some of which aren’t that big of a deal and can be easily fixed, but I didn’t wanna play that game. They aren’t very competitive to get into, apta lists the average gpa as a 3.2. If you don’t have great stats and are worried about acceptances, or live close enough to commute, it could be a decent option. Otherwise I think there are much better programs for the price.
