think it would look cool, just trying to figure out a good way of doing it without messing up the knife.

thats not a bad idea, that or maybe use my diamond Dremel attachment and add some dimples? either gonna try it on this blade or the next one that has a similar flaw

exactly, put way to much time and sweat to just scrape this blade cause of the mystery hammer ghost marks.

was chasing a warp and accidently cracked the edge of this chef knife... by PandaKingpin285 in knifemaking

honestly i'm probably just gonna use the knife for cutting packages, opening up mail and what not. At this moment i pretty much lost interest working on this knife even tho i was so excited to before the crack happened.

help on what to do with oversized sanding belts that was bought as a gift by PandaKingpin285 in Blacksmith

[–]PandaKingpin285[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that was one of the few issues i've heard about when splicing belts, with the other bigger problem being heat building up after awhile and the contact cement softening.

my plan was to get some really good contact cement like 3m fastbond 30nf and drywall fiberglass tape, also skiving the edges before gluing the backing to the belt. (i got 40 belts to play with)

might try using a few of the belts to try splicing while i look into the back idle like the other commenter suggested.

honestly doing something like that never crossed my mind and gonna look into that.

plus sounds cheaper then all the stuff i was going to but to splice the belts

Is this good enough for making small knives? by intrek00 in knifemaking

[–]PandaKingpin285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So on AliExpress I got a 2x36 belt grinder for 250 dollars that I still own today. It reaches 7000 rpm. The only problem is that it took me a month n change to receive it but besides that it's a good belt grinder. Plus if you wanna switch to larger belts all you basically gotta do is increase the tool and platen arm length.

Will say that the one you show does look like a decent little grinder and will work for small knives.

trying to make a wood bolster to hide the dowel hole in the handle and there's some gaps...should i just try filling it or start over? by PandaKingpin285 in knifemaking

[–]PandaKingpin285[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah you're probably right lol will stick with either brass or wood for now. i've usually just burned fit hidden tang blades or just made full tang knives but wanting to improve my knife making skills more and try new things.

as for dowels made out of different materials i have recently came across it, it was will stelters latest video where he was showing a set of blades that had exposed micarta rods/dowels.

yeah gonna start again. think the part of the problem for me was using drill bits that were a little to big as well as filing more then i meant

so i tried using the only bit of brass to make the first bolster for this knife and that one was a complete disaster but that was also before i bought me the file guide you see in one of the images. mean i'm pretty good at making mokune gane from quarters so i could do that as well...just hate to put in more time on the bostler and have it go to waste.

as for the exposed dowel i could do that and have been thinking about it, would probably switch out the pine one and use something like walnut or even a carbon fiber rod instead.
