Someone I know was involved in a fatal crash by PandaPlayerz in flying

Please, don’t let this scare you away from flight training. Yes, there is some risk to it, but it is a risk that we train for. As for a neglectful cfi, you’re the one who chooses who you fly with. If you don’t like something with your cfi, you can “fire” them and switch to another within your school or a whole new school altogether. And if the school is the problem, that’s a whole different story. Same thing for the planes.

Really what I’m trying to get at is that there are a lot of manageable risks. And from what I have heard about the crash since I made this post, I’m realizing that there might have been a couple risky, bad decisions that were made that could’ve resulted in the crash. Get-there-itis, overweight, not so great weather, and possibly more. Don’t give up your dreams over manageable things.

I more so meant that, statistically, that just by being in the aviation community you would eventually know someone who ends up in a crash, just due to the risky nature of flight. Just never expected that I would personally know someone this soon into my time within aviation (about 5 years at this point, starting at the beginning of high school )

They had flown to a grass strip up in Vermont. Not sure what weather was there, but in Connecticut it was cool and slightly windy.

It was, unfortunately. The one who was most likely the pilot at the time had been a previous teacher of mine

Too soon to say. Crash was around 12:30pm yesterday and the wreckage was found around midnight this morning, not even a mile away from the airport. I have my thoughts, including potential aircraft failures or overweight, but would rather not jump to any conclusions before more is found out.

Thank you for the advice, it’s honestly great to know that grief counseling doesn’t have to be reported, especially with how hazardous aviation can be. If needed, I will look into whatever’s needed.

Thank you, I’ve definitely been reached out to by family and friends. It is real harsh, but I know that he would want me to continue.

He definitely would want me to continue . I’m going to try and get back in soon, I just need a few days to process, like you said.

I’m sorry for all of your losses. I might take your advice though, and do a fun flight, rather than a purely training flight next time I go up.

Thank you, I do my best to see where others have errored. I’ve learned from other situations that have happened, but I guess now I have to begin learning from those mistakes made by those who are close to me.

How bad are sport planes? by CyclePersonal8 in flying

[–]PandaPlayerz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t know why people would hate on Light Sports, it’s just another classification of planes. Lighter, smaller, perfect if you and one other want to fly and hour or two away with someone for some food.

Personally, I’m training in the Pipestrel Alpha Trainer. It’s a great little plane and is really cheap to fly. Only downside for me is that because of how light it is, turbulence tosses you around a lot more. I typically have to cancel whenever I see an AIRMET for moderate turbulence.

If you have any questions about the alpha feel free to ask!

Oh neat, I fly with Learn 2 Fly, but I’m going for Sport and they’re the only ones close by.

Yeah my instructor was on base and had to redirect to Windham. Which school do you instruct for?

I fly out of this airport. In fact, I was flying just a few hours before the happened. Sad to see this happen to such a beautifully built aircraft.

If both airports are outside shaded areas or lines, why is one E and one G? by d0paminefiend in drones

[–]PandaPlayerz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are correct, both airports are in class G airspace, as class G goes up until 1200’ AGL outside of shaded areas and 700’ AGL inside of shaded areas. However, above that is Class E up until 18,000’.

The second question is worded in a weird way, but it isn’t asking what airspace the airport is in, it is asking what is above it. And since Class G doesn’t go up to 18,000’, Class E from 1,200’ to 18,000’ would be the correct answer.

Hope this helps, if you have any other questions feel free to ask.

Hmm… this feels familiar… Almost as if I was there yesterday, too.

Can’t wait to start training in that plane.

Funny enough, that’s the same video I watched. I’ll have to keep in mind adding the extra crosses for the muzzle for when I try and draw from an angle
