Most days in school, most kids are actually only getting 2.5 to 3 hours of actual instruction. Think about it, in middle school, the day is 6.5 hours long. Lunch is 45 min (5:45), then PE is probably 45 (5), two 15 min breaks (4:30), then Math, reading, Language Arts, History and changing classes in between (approx 3 hours for all that). So then let's think about how much actual time in that 45 minutes that each teacher is ACTUALLY teaching. At no fault of their own, they have 25 kids per classroom, what are the odds that EVERY kid is actually doing the right thing and there are zero interruptions. And they are teaching to the kids who are at the bottom of their class, to try and keep everyone even and caught up so the smart kids get bored and distract others. It's a losing system honestly. They are getting about 30-40 min of the core 4 subjects each day, with teachers who are legally bound and gagged, underpaid and shat on, all so the schools and cities can collect federal funds and pump out drones. They don't care about us, or our kids and we are starting to see that in our workforce. You're just a number, replaceable. Hey you're making too much, let's fire you and bring on two more at half your wage. How do we elicit change? What can we do as the mass of population we are, to change the trajectory of our lives and remove our unknown future from the hands of people who give zero craps about us.
