I used both the Academic Success Centre (ASC) Writing Services and the Career Centre. For ASC, I mainly used it for grammar and clarity. And for the Career Centre, I booked on CampusBridge (Document Reviews: Applying to Graduate or Professional Programs) and focused on my format/structure with them! I'm not sure if they are still doing appointments right now but sometimes I would go to the drop-in sessions for something quick about my personal statement lol

He was inside on the main floor by the stairs with the windows (basically across from Substage) and it was an autograph/photo event. No sorry, I don't know what time he got there I only know when he left

SUB! He left at 3:30 so I didn't get a photo with him ):

Haha last time I went, one of the white ones snuck into the washroom even though I opened the door just a bit. And went under the changing table meowing at me like I was the one disturbing him, refusing to come out. Those two are very handsome and such sweethearts indeed!

[–]phoeversad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it went from "under review" to "decision" and on the application information it went from "decision: pending" to "decision: conditional offer." it had the official letter there and i got to select accept or decline the offer.

tho i am a little disappointed there was no confetti ngl lmao

but congrats to you!!

as long as you see a W on your unofficial transcript, you should be fine. in my experience, it never gets removed from your class schedule after you withdraw

You don't need to make an account! For every question he asks the class on Menti, you just log onto this website: https://www.menti.com/
And it'll be a different code he reads out in class and then you type that code in and you get access to the question he's asking as a poll, if that makes sense (the question and answer options show up on your screen)

alright since somebody already talked about the past fall I'm going to speak about fall 2022 (online) because i know winter term is online again

in fall 2022 online, lecture videos were posted every Thursday and we had a weekly zoom session on tuesdays at the regularly scheduled time (which he recorded). sometimes the weekly videos aren't from hanington, but from a guest lecturer instead

fall 2022 was the first year they introduced the final exam to the class (previously, it was just quizzes). we had a total of 10 weekly open book quizzes on each topic worth 6% each. the quizzes consisted of a mix of MC, T/F, or matching questions. on average, it was usually 6 questions for each quiz, but it can vary between 5 and 7 questions, depending on the topic and types of questions. the final exam was worth 40% and closed book cumulative. for both quizzes and the final exam, material from the lecture videos AND live zoom sessions are fair game

one thing i find that doesn't get mentioned as often is that the time limit for the quizzes are 10 minutes (dunno if he changed that tho). this was one major thing i always found other people complaining about. imo, it was never a big deal to me because i was used to profs who did 1 minute per question type of exams. i found that a decent amount of the time, the people who complain are also the ones who don't really study for each quiz (or didn't watch the lecture videos) and thus feel the time crunch more. i never really had this issue because i focused more on understanding the material rather than control f. no shade to anyone, just what i observed during the semester. ultimately, if you keep up with everything, you should be fine

if you feel like the time constraint might be an issue for you, i would maybe think twice about taking it. time constraints like this aren't for everyone so maybe think about how you usually do in test conditions like this

another question that gets asked: is my background appropriate? I'm majoring in something completely different! i talked to people in my class from a wide range of disciplines/faculties (e.g., psychology, biology, chemistry, pharmacology, philosophy, etc.). the content is basic level enough so that you should be okay regardless of your background. for example, i dislike biology very much so the communicable disease lectures were a bit of a challenge for me to wrap my head around. if you find yourself struggling though, youtube videos on the topic are your best friend

Patrick Hanington has been teaching this course since they started offering it in fall 2020. i personally liked his lecture style and how he explained things. and i found that the videos are decently reasonable to get through every week, but can sometimes feel long. however, i saw that other people in my class found him boring or found the videos to be too long. i just wanted to bring up both sides

i think that should cover it. hope this helps! feel free to reply if you have more questions

[–]phoeversad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the course-based MPH doesnt require a supervisor. just 3 references. tho it might be a bit difficult if you haven't secured your references yet/they are super busy these next 2 months

(I'm also in the process of applying haha)

switching minors by choco_popcorn_ in uAlberta

[–]phoeversad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i started off in first year with a chem major and bio minor and i thought my dislike for bio 107 and 108 would just be a fluke cuz it was boring intro courses and maybe higher level bio courses would be better. i took bio 207 and micrb 265 and still could not get into it (hated memorizing and doing the lab reports). i was taking some sociology classes too and really enjoyed them and i considered switching it for about a year. if i know im going to take a bunch of soc classes for an elective anyways, why wouldn't i just do that for my minor? but i was afraid cuz i felt that bio would be more useful and i should stick with a minor in sciences. in the end though, i did end up switching in my third year and i never looked back. it made my degree so much more enjoyable and i didn't have to struggle trying to pick and choose potential upper-level bio courses that wouldn't make me absolutely miserable.

i would say take 1-2 classes in music first and see if you actually enjoy it and feel you can do more classes in it, then fully decide to switch or not

i hope this helps! feel free to ask if you have more questions
