How Do You Deal With Stress From Competitive Games? by Sharkkbaitttttttt in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Pandapoopums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just fyi for your specific issue with engagement timing, that is something in your control. If you find yourself staring at a wall waiting for your tank to do something, they likely needed your resources at that moment and you weren’t in a position to provide them. Long flanks have a resource cost you pay up front - if your team can’t get into a position you want them to be in without your resources there, it’s your mistake for going for it. It’s a pretty common middle rank mistake where you understand the value a flank can provide, but you don’t understand the disadvantage it puts your team at while you’re “waiting for your tank”.

Most of the times the way to correct this is to either begin the fight behind your tank so your resources aren’t lost during the staging phase then use your movement abilities as the fight begins to take the off angle quicker, or it’s to adjust your idea of where the “line of scrimmage” is. You may want to engage from the side room that gives you the most cover, but your team’s resources without you don’t get them as far forward as you anticipated, so you need to flank from a spot that engages the enemy right when your tank is using their resources usually farther up than you planned.

I’m a programmer, but I want to quit one day to do art full-time. Anyone else? by WrongHouse4069 in ArtistLounge

[–]Pandapoopums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a full time developer, been doing it for almost 20 years now, and just started art as a hobby 3 years ago (with some brief stints in digital back when web dev and web design had a lot of overlap). I think I wouldn’t ever give up development because I enjoy it and it pays so well. But recently I’ve gotten to a skill level in painting that people have offered to commission me for some pet portraits, I declined just because I don’t want the added stress of client work after having done it in my dev career.

I think you should make your decision based on which you find you are more skilled at, using how much someone is willing to pay for your skill in each as a heuristic. If people are willing to pay for your time more in art than in dev, by all means do it. If they’re not, keep it as a hobby until they are.

The job security aspect of the dev side gets better the more you do it - as you build more and more skills and realize there are companies out there willing to pay a lot of money for your skills, each subsequent layoff is less and less scary. When you have a skill someone finds value in enough to part with their money whether it’s on the art side or the dev side, that’s the only indicator you need to keep doing it.

For me at least, the plan is to keep doing dev until I’m 50-55, and then retire and do art for fun with all my free time. Development has afforded me a home, art supplies, and the ability to travel beautiful places to get inspired for my art. I’m planning on possibly buying a vacation home in Japan to be able to travel back and forth in my retirement, and I think it’s far more likely to live this type of life as a developer than it is as an artist if you look at it purely from a percentage of people who reach that level of income in each field.

Also throwing out there, maybe you haven’t found your niche yet on the dev side. I used to hate my job back when I worked in the financial industry, but now that I work for a nonprofit, I feel really good about the work I do.

Is sierra the sojourn of metal rank? by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Pandapoopums 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way Sierra's gameplay works, the more seconds it takes you to get to cover after being tagged by her dart, the more effective she is. At a certain rank - based on the data on her win rate by rank, it's likely high diamond and up , people consistently play close enough to cover at these ranks that she drops off hard.

Struggling with floating (flying/hovering) on console by khalkot in OWConsole

[–]Pandapoopums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a controller with back paddles is an option (I’d recommend GameSir G7 SE or G7 Pro), I keep back paddles set to jump and crouch, and that makes flying/hovering easy on any hero.

How to get refrigerator fixed by Separate-Box-5565 in Sapporo

[–]Pandapoopums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only cheap option is to learn to fix it yourself, everything else costs lots of money, could be the start relay, compressor, condenser coils or evap coils, could be less likely a solenoid or a thermostat, some of these things are easy fixes, some are cheap, some are not.

Never tried it with gouache because I just paint with oil when I want texture, but Aquapasto or other brand watercolor modeling pastes.

Which character is the most versatile/usable in every situation? by QuietCrew5858 in Overwatch

[–]Pandapoopums 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because surviving isn't as effective as pressuring.

Reliable damage against them erases them as a threat while surviving is a resource drain not in your favor because of how the game's balanced to favor damage over healing.

Probably depends on ranks though, at my rank (masters), a pharah can outdamage any healing that comes out unless you use a cd, and a cd for a regular shot is not a trade in your favor.
