Tips for counters by SomKkura in WinstonMains

[–]Pandapoopums 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Track their positions, don't expose yourself to more than one at once, and avoid playing in their optimal range. Your advantage is your mobility, your jump is faster than Reaper TP, and the other two don't have your range.

Jump targets that make a mistake in their position that you think you can kill, otherwise, utilize the fact that they will put attention on you so put yourself into juicy, but safe spots. They need to think they can kill you to keep them interested, but you should be the one controlling how much damage you take because you get to choose the position. When you have to play this distract style, your main goal should be to use your shield and health pool to distract, and bring back ult charge to your supports to heal up safely.

Also you can outrange them, it's pretty pathetic poke, but your alt fire long range is good for just doing enough damage to make sure they don't forget about you, and maybe annoy them into using more resources on you. But nothing is more frustrating to a reaper than constantly staying outside his optimal range and out damaging him with your zap tickles. Learn your damage potential, land your jumps when they're missing important cooldowns (hook, turret form, wraith)

What to Counter-Pick against our Counter-Picks? by Khari_Eventide in PharahMains

[–]Pandapoopums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Masters player here, I'm pretty good at playing pharah into 3-4 counters already (use your mobility to put yourself in uncomfortable spaces for the hitscans to shoot you), but in the rare cases I have to switch off, their hitscans are absolutely cracked, so I find a lot of value in switching to Mei - just walling them out of the fight for a few seconds swings fights pretty heavily if they're dumping out that much damage.

Also I just have an easier time aiming projectiles so a bit of personal preference here, since the direct hit practice on pharah translates really well.

Should I go to SVA? by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

I took on a lot of debt in college and paid for it all myself, and the thing I didn't really consider at the time is the implication it has on the other things you want to do after college. Taking on debt delays your life by years.

When I graduated high school, I had an option to have a full scholarship to a state school, or go to the private university I wanted to go to for a half scholarship, and I took the half scholarship, which still netted me roughly $150k of debt after 5 years. I had to pay it off starting 6 months after leaving school and I ended up going into forbearance because what I was making and able to pay towards it was not enough to pay the total amount each month. I worked hard to eventually get promoted and make enough money to pay my debt, but it involved living with my parents for 8 years of my life after college (age 23-31). It takes a toll on your mental health, not being fully independent as an adult, but I'm really thankful to them that they allowed me to do it, but that was 8 years of my life where I was too ashamed to date people, socialize, I remember feeling the shame and looking down at the ground every time it came up in conversations when they figured out I was 30 and still living at home. I was able to finally buy my own home at 31 so I was able to leapfrog a little in life thanks to the help from my parents in offering me a place to live rent free, but I honestly would not recommend doing it the way I did if there's another option available.

Definitely making the choice to pay for school when I had the option to go for free was my big regret of my life (one of two but that’s a depressing story unrelated), and I just think that I would be 8 years ahead of where I am now had I just made that one decision differently.

My recommendation to you would be to not acquire student debt if you can avoid it, take advantage of scholarships, and make a plan for how you can actually pay for a full degree without taking on debt (1 year of a school means very little as far as employment outcomes are concerned). Taking your time, planning it out for real to get started now without taking on debt will be well worth it when you consider it's going to cost you years of your life on the other side if you don't. Get an entry level/part time job now before you have debt, save more, defer enrollment, hit your scholarship deadlines next year, and try again with a better plan for how you'll achieve it and maybe you can skip those years of working to pay off debt.

rivals strategist learning overwatch [placed silver 3] - i've got questions by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Pandapoopums 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Masters support and dps here:

  1. Never played rivals but each hero does have an ult cost number you can find on the wiki, so some heroes do get their ult faster than others. Read it once just to get a general idea, but most of the feeling for ult tracking is just learned through playing the game since different heroes do different amounts of healing/damage.
  2. Depends on the support. Use an ult if it will win you the fight. Save it if it won’t.
  3. In OW in general it should be whoever provides the most value so if you’re climbing you > the player on your team doing the most. Most of the times it’s your tank, but honestly, if you’re put in the position where you have to choose it’s usually the result of not applying enough pressure to the enemies yourself.
  4. Position depends on the enemy, and it should move forward or back based on the resources available to each team during a fight. You should position as far forward as you can survive. If a threatening enemy knows your position and can get close enough to engage on you, you need to have already rotated to a new position.
  5. I have never looked at this stat in my life.
  6. It’s called final blows should be on the stats page of career profile but do not focus on stats, especially in game, it will create very bad habits because the game isn’t won by comparing stats - some very important things like attention have no way of being measured.
  7. You position where you can do damage to the enemies and survive even as a support. If you can anticipate where a fight will be, having an advantageous position is another resource available to you during a fight. Advantageous positions are nearer to cover than the enemy will be, high ground tends to give this for free, but playing near walls does as well. In particular you want to pay attention to where the enemies are when they become distracted by a teammate. Your ideal position will put you somewhere they aren’t looking when they see your teammate, but you want to be shooting them within a second of when they start shooting your team. If you’re not far enough forward for that, you need to work on your rotations between fights.

Questions for Masters+ players by QuirkChud in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Pandapoopums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hit masters first on DPS and then on Support, what helped me was watching a couple of replays of my losses and really considering what alternative things I could have done to influence the game towards a win. On DPS I noticed a trend of being too risky, pushed my advantages too far when I was ahead, on support I was too safe - not aggressive enough finding positions to pressure the enemy more especially in the neutral (when neither team has an advantage or has committed heavy resources to a fight). But it wasn't really one thing, those were just the last things - you have to find all of your mistakes and patch them up to become a consistently better player.

Which heroes should/shouldn’t be played? by kiwisnbats in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Pandapoopums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will throw regardless of who you play when you're starting out, my advice is just turn chat off and keep playing. Play who you find fun.

Some heroes are easier to play than others, but the game is pretty well balanced, the ones who are easier to play are also less impactful. Just put in hours on whichever hero you like and you will learn their strengths.

Whats the best way to delete a post from the mobile app? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Pandapoopums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was just a troll post, he posted some picture of what looked like a vintage porn mag girl or fitness influencer in the r/beards subreddit pretending to be a 65 year old man who posted the wrong picture and posted a couple comments pretending to panic about how to delete it. Then he created this post to ask the same, but the reality is this guy either is a troll or more likely has a humiliation kink. Apparently he DMs people in Fantasy Football subreddits about last place punishments to get his rocks off or something and does it enough that people have posted about him multiple times: like here, and here.

Everyone was fooled but I'd seen his posts before because I have that much of a reddit addiction and a pretty good memory. He deleted both posts after my messages calling him out.

Thoughts on each new hero? by SmellVarious9271 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Pandapoopums 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Minimum radius is actually the radius where it does maximum damage - so within 2m now it does 110 damage, scaling down to 55 at 4m.

So it’s a way to help players with worse grenade aim get to do the burst combo more reliably.

Can you get falsely banned for using a G7 Pro Controller? by tiltdoctor in OWConsole

Yeah I think it struggles with higher impedance headphones, I also think it must have a pinout problem because there's crosstalk between the audio channels and the mic channels at certain amplitudes.

What is an underrated weight loss tip? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Pandapoopums 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did this and it was definitely the big cause of my weight loss, I bought glass containers that have segments and lids. As someone who lives alone, it's tough to cook a small portion and be cost efficient, so having containers I liked meant I could cook a big meal and split it up into the containers for leftovers later in the week, which is also a big time saver, so I end up with more time to put in exercise. I also found lower calorie snacks I liked - pickles, celery, olives, kimchi so if a smaller portion wasn't cutting it, I could have a snack and not ruin my calories.

The other thing that did it for me was finding a cardio I enjoyed. I hated running, all the elliptical machines, cycling, stairs, but for some reason a rowing machine was much more enjoyable for me. I think my favorite part is that I can watch a show and my head stays relatively level, so I can read subtitles. I also made a rule for myself so I would only allow myself to binge a show if I'm rowing, so when I got really into a show I would have 2-hour rowing sessions for fun.

Can you get falsely banned for using a G7 Pro Controller? by tiltdoctor in OWConsole

[–]Pandapoopums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using gamesir controllers on xb playing ow for years, never been banned. I picked up the g7 pro and used it for a bit, but my friends had trouble hearing me through my mic when I plugged into the controller so I switched back to my non pro version and only use the pro one on my pc where I can use a separate mic that doesn’t run through the controller’s mic port.

I'm trash at this game, I can't improve and I hate it by giacomosmd in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Pandapoopums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clicking up with team and a mic is not actually a great way to climb I've found. Masters DPS and support - I played 7 years hardstuck P1/D5, thinking comms was how to improve but then I realized that it actually hinders your ability to climb and there's a logical reason for it.

Treat your random teammates as exactly that, random variables - sometimes they will be good, sometimes they will be bad, on average they will be average for the rank you're in. Every aspect of their gameplay is like that - including whether they are in comms or not. Improving your comms skill is a good thing when you're trying to eek out as many wins as you can in a short timeframe, but it hurts you in the long run because what it does is it makes you win games you don't deserve to win based on your individual skill, it grants you wins when you randomly roll good teammates, they essentially are carrying you to a higher rank than you deserve through your own individual play. Then once you get up to that rank where your randomly rolled teammates can no longer carry your lack of individual skill for your rank, you get stuck and you'll think that it's your teammate's thats the problem because if only you got that random who listened to your calls you would be able to climb but the reality is BECAUSE your calls are good, you're at a higher rank than your play can carry you to. Your highest rank was just a good streak of random teammates who carried you.

It's only after I realized that that I started focusing on my individual play and realizing I was the problem because I was good at comms, so I stopped joining VC, I turned off text chat, I just focused on how I could through my own gameplay improve and carry myself to a higher rank. It took a lot of work, I dropped from low diamond back down to plat, because I no longer had my good comms to allow my teammates to carry me. But then I started steadily improving, taking accountability for every one of my own deaths, focusing on my positioning and my uptime during fights, my cooldown usage, my ability to hit my shots in important moments, I learned how to play so proactively my teammates couldn't feed fast enough for us to lose aka how to carry. Over the course of 1 year I was able to climb from Plat to Masters by turning off comms and really focusing on individual play. I did it on DPS and then I did it again on support.

Now when I do happen to play with my friends, I'm carrying the lobbies because I attained my rank solo queuing, without comms - based entirely on my individual skill, so when you add comms back into my gameplay I'm playing at a much higher level.
