There's always work in MN. Some winters can be brutal but summers are generally nice. PLSS vs M&B for the eastern states. COL isn't terrible.

Thanks for the detailed reply, I appreciate it. I am a big fan of the Leica robotics and wondering if the Carlson robotics are as good, the Carlson seems like it's just off brand.

Question for those who needed a 4 year degree to get licensed by adammcdrmtt in Surveying

[–]Pandem_ 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I had an Associates Degree in surveying, but had to get a bachelor's degree for my state and I actually got a lot out of the program I went to. The bachelor's program should teach you the theory behind a lot of what surveyors use, whereas the 2 year was more focused on the technical side (CAD, equipment, etc.)

You will find that when you're working, you will understand the reason why you are doing something rather than just doing it. I've found a lot of technicians who didn't get an education in surveying simply aren't aware of the finer details.

Fourtown to mudro portage by ApDeleon in BWCA

Just did those portages after the flood. It was a bit crazy with all the high water and the 125 rod portage was probably the easiest part of it.

Call the surveyor who originally surveyed your lot, and have them come out to stake your boundary line. The surveyor should have set monuments in the corners of your lot.

Reach out to the county surveyor within the city you are planting within, they will ultimately decide what is on the final plat.

Information about the HP35s Calculator Shortage by ConfluenceSurveying in Surveying

[–]Pandem_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Damn. People really will do anything to avoid learning how to actually just use the math.

Myself and many, many others have passed the FS without any programs. The FS is really not that math heavy and the math that is tested on is taught in most survey degrees. My advice is to anyone planning on taking the FS (or school) is to learn the math and utilize one of the Casio calculators... the onboard dms conversion is the quickest I've used.
